Scenes from the Sunweavers: Memorial Day Dance at Cutlass
On Saturday May 28, the Sunweaver community's Cutlass club had "Veterans" as the theme for their last pasty of the week, and the last event before Memorial Day two days later. Those present were encouraged to wear either a uniform or something in patriotic red white and blue.
Cynthia Farshore was the DJ of the event, who played a number of songs not usually heard in Second Life club events, such as "It's a Long Way to Tipperary." Someone mused that they'd been there and someone had put up a sign, "Welcome to Tipperary: You've Come A Long Way." Another song was about the Gallipoli campaign in World War One, the attempt by Britain and France to occupy the waterway through Turkey to both take out it's capital and open a supply route to Russia. It got a few comments from the crowd, commenting on the poor planning, "They had to fight their way up a mountain? All the Turks had to do was drop rocks on them."
After the last of Cynthia's songs, she asked the other two veterans in the crowd, Shockwave and Zorro Wuramunga, to join her near the DJ booth. Sunweaver leader Rita Mariner, whom was also in the military, was not present that night.
"Know one thing that amazes me about war vets? They never forget."
