Veterans Isle Benefit Raises Over 100,000 Lindens

On August 30, Veterans Isle held it's monthly live music concert. The event was to raise funds for the Homes For Our Troops charity. It was organized by the US Military Veterans Group and musician Frets Nirvana.

Our August 2015 monthly benefit concert for Homes For Our Toops will be tonight Sunday, August 30 from 5-9 PM SLT. Heading into our Labor Day let's spend it remembering our veterans and what they have sacrificed for us. Come out, support and help us by helping our severely wounded veterans through Homes For Our Troops.

The event began at 5PM SL time with ukulele player Djoni Flux. David Csiszer took the stage at 6. Frets Nirvana himself went up to strum his guitar for the crowd at 7PM. Finally at 8PM came the last act, Koko Incognito and her band (Debbie Everly and Luvs4eva Resident). As the musicians played, people donated into the two house-shaped kiosks on either side of the stage.

By 8:50 PM SL time, 79,000 Lindens had been donated. It went up to 80,000 in a couple minutes. Frets Nirvana then made a challenge. If 10,000 more Lindens were donated, he would match the amount, "Tell ya what ...I will give a break ...we get it to 90k and I will put in 10k." Cycloppers Cyberstar stepped up to the challenge with the donation, "here's yor ten grand Frets." And with that, Frets matched the amount, along with smaller amounts others put in, and the total passed the 100,000 mark to the cheers of the crowd, "WOOHOO!!!" "Awesome!" "YEEEEEHAAAWWWWW!!!!!!"

Frets kept the event going, "100k ...what can we get it to in next 5 minutes?" People kept donating to the kiosks, and by the time Koko and her band finished, the total had gone up to 107,000 Lindens. "I love donating to this cause," spoke one resident, "makes me feel good to help our vets."

Gjackie Winkler of the Veterans Group told the crowd, "You all are so fantastically wonderful, it is with a very kind heart to look after the Injured that come home and need special homes. ... Koko you did such a wonderful set, thank you so much."

ABOUT HOMES FOR OUR TROOPS  - HFOT builds homes as a departure point for Veterans to rebuild their lives, and once again become highly productive members of society. Despite their life-altering injuries, many Veterans have embarked on new careers, completed their college degrees, or started families. Empowered by the freedom a mortgage-free and specially adapted home brings, these Veterans can now focus on their recovery and return to their life’s work of serving others. Many have embraced their roles as motivational speakers, sharing their messages of persevering through tragedy with groups and classrooms around the country; others take to a national platform to promote awareness of veteran suicide, homelessness and PTSD. Their incredible stories are the driving force for the work for HFOT.
