Press Release: Bay City's 18th Anniversary Celebration.


BAY CITY CELEBRATES EIGHTEEN YEARS

This Classic City Area was the First “Mole” Project


BAY CITY, SL (30 April, 2026) - The Second Life® mainland community of Bay City reaches the eighteenth anniversary or its initial release this May, and Bay City Residents are once again hosting their traditional parade down the city’s Route 66, followed by a live music event in their fairgrounds.

The first project of the Linden Department of Public Works, Bay City opened in May of 2008 to initial viewing. In 2011, its land mass doubled, as it absorbed the copy of Bay City that existed on the former Teen Grid. It has developed into the largest community-focused virtual urban area in Second Life.

Parade participants are asked to gather at noon SLT/PDT on Sunday, the 17th of May, to lineup at the band shell in Bay City - Harwich. The parade will wend its way down Route 66 beginning at 12:30 p.m. SLT/PDT, and will conclude at the Bay City Fairgrounds in the North Channel region. 

A music event will kick off at 12:30 p.m. SLT/PDT at the Fairgrounds with DJ DJ GoSpeed of KONA Stream providing music leading into the event until 1:30 p.m.SLT/PDT , followed by AleyKat (Aleylia Resident)from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. SLT/PDT, Jesie Janick from 2:30-3:30 p.m. SLT/PDT, and Raspberry Rearwin from 3:30-4:30 p.m. SLT/PDT.


All Residents of the Second Life grid are encouraged to participate. Celebration goods, including parade float bases and ideas, are available at the Bay City Community Center, in the Daley Bay region for those who wish to be a part of the event. Ample viewing areas are provided for all. The music event is also open to all who desire to attend -- not only Residents of Bay City, but the entire grid is welcome.

Bay City is a mainland community, developed by Linden Lab® and home to the Bay City Alliance. The Bay City Alliance was founded in 2008 to promote the Bay City regions of Second Life® and provide a venue for Bay City Residents and other interested parties to socialize and network. It is now the largest Bay city group, and home to most Residents of Bay City.

While June is full of events with the Relay and the Second Life Birthday, last month had a number. Among them was the annual Bay City Anniversary Parade and Party. The Newser was there, and took a few pictures.

 A MILESTONE ANNIVERSARY FOR BAY CITY

First Mole Project Now Fifteen Years Old

Bay City, the first major project undertaken by the “Moles” of the Linden Department of Public Works, will turn fifteen years old this May. In honor of this achievement, residents of Bay City will host their annual parade through the city, followed by a live music event in the Bay City fairgrounds.

International Women's Day at The CDS


A little more than a week ago, the Confederation of Democratic Simulators had an event celebrating International Women's Day. There was a "Making Waves" exhibit showing the progress made with women's rights over the years. But there were also performances, such as DJing, and live music.

International Women's Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

International Women's Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific.''

Important Note: 8 March is "spring forward" in SL. Daylight Saving Time begins and clocks will be turned forward one hour. Daylight Saving Time begins in Europe on 29 March. Please check your local time to ensure that you don't miss SL events during this seasonal time change!

9:45 AM SL time - DJ QT

QT plays anything from sultry smooth blues to rockabilly, 60s, 70's into the 80s and beyond... always fun and plenty of giggles! QT will be our emcee between DEBAUCHE dance numbers and will play some great tunes for us to do our own dancing to!

10:00 AM SL time - Debauche Dance Troupe

Debauche combines outstanding choreography, creative stage settings, gorgeous costuming, and the inimitable Debauche dancers to present artistic entertainment that has been pleasing audiences since its first performances. With a core rooted in burlesque, Debauche also incoporates many other dance styles in order to present a memorable theatrical experience for its audiences. So, sit back, relax, and prepare to enter the magical world of Debauche!

12:00 PM SL time - DJ Babe

2:00 PM SL time - AleyKat

AleyKat (Aleylia Resident) is a well established addition to the SL music scene, and in every way a force to be reckoned with. Her eclectic taste in music will take you on a musical journey with her shows comprising of upbeat pop, classical renditions and timeless material. To express her style of singing one could easily invoke such names as Norah Jones, Melody Gardot and Katie Melua. When you hear Aley perform her mix of modern and ageless classics, you'll know that it's fair to put her in the same category.

Making Waves Display

Making Waves: Women have, over the past 300 and more years, made enormous strides in establishing for themselves a place of their own in the world, achieving legal and political equality throughout much of the globe. A great deal of this success has derived from the power and insight lent by the rise and ongoing evolution of Feminism. THIS EXHIBIT chronicles the historical contributions of Feminism to the continuing struggle for social justice, acknowledging the past while looking ahead to the future of the women's movement.

There will be a wall of posters for YOU to participate in! Bring your favourite poster or images and you'll be able to set them up for display on our Sharing Wall! It's free, fun, and can be thought-provoking.
