SL Video: "Terrain Model of the Sansara & Heterocera Continents in Second Life"

 From Erik Mondrian on June 29, "A topographic model I made showing Sansara [https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Sansara] and Heterocera [https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Hete...], Second Life’s two oldest mainland continents — with 982 and 433 regions, respectively. You can get a closer look at Heterocera in one of my previous videos:    • Terrain Model of the Heterocera Conti...   You can also see a model of the atoll inworld [http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife...] by going to my exhibit parcel for SL21B [https://community.secondlife.com/blog...]. I gathered each region’s elevation data at half-meter X and Y intervals using an interconnected set of LSL scripts — feeding that data to my computer via a series of HTTP requests — then (re)constructed and textured the terrain model(s) in Blender using its incredibly powerful Python API [https://docs.blender.org/api/current/...]. The textures themselves were downloaded from SL’s “Picture Service” [https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Pict...], with UUIDs available thanks to Tyche Shepherd and her indispensable Grid Survey database [http://gridsurvey.com/api.php]."

The Heterocera Embassy Opening, And A Glance At The SLEA

 

Gemma's been getting back into business from her recent leave by diving into a few events. After a stop at the Cuban Cafe, she headed over to the Second Life Endowment for the Arts, her first visit in a while, and was pleasantly surprised by what she saw. Then she attended another Bellisserian Embassy opening, this one in Heterocera.

Reader Submitted: The Relevance of Statues

All the current news about statues in the real world reminded me of a rather unprepossessing statue in Second Life that celebrates a huge step forward in the virtual world.

Back in 2006, working in the dark dangerous prim mines which honeycomb Heterocera,  a mole, sadly their name seems not to have been recorded, made a remarkable discovery as detailed for posterity on the plaque.

"This statue commemorates the discovery of sculpted prims in '06. Found in the prim mines of Heterocera, sculpted prims were immediately recognized as a new category of prim that would change the face of Second Life forever. This statue is dedicated to the brave Moles who delved into the pixelated crust of Heterocera Atoll in order to bring forth these valuable prims."

If you want to combine a bit of extra  fun with your visit, there is a friendly mole  which allows you to rez a 4x4  and close by an Air Balloon rezzer.

New Pod Station at Sedge

Many residents have a tendency to dismiss the Second Life mainland, having the impression it's nothing but badly designed areas, ban lines, and empty space. The truth is, there are places of interest on the mainland. One means to help residents find them are the automatically running vehicles, known as "pods," which can take you around many different places along the roads. Klaus Bereznyak found out about a new pod station opening, and had a few words with Yavanna Llanfair, who maintains and updates the routes of the vehicles.

SL Video: Trains on Parade

"A parade of trains went along the Second Life Railroad (SLRR) Main Line from Bhaga to Neumoegen and the West Atoll Railroad (WARR) to the station in Loepa.
"The Virtual Railway Consortium consists of members that enjoy the diverse railway and other transportation resources in Second life."
