The Relay for Life in InWorldz
The Relay for Life in Second Life is over, at least until March. But in the InWorldz grid, it's just began. Their season "Colors of Hope" actually started Saturday August 12, though the Newser never got the exact time or place until after the event had happened. A week later on Saturday August 19 at 12:30 PM IW and SL time, Holocluck Henly held an event at Seladia Park at the Seladia sim.
I don't get on InWorldz often, with all that happens in Second Life. But the occasion was a reminder that the grid was still around and offers it's own things to see.
This upcoming Saturday August 26 has the "Under the Sea Extravaganza" at 1PM.

Reader Submitted: Relaying in Real Life and Virtual Life
By Bain Finch
My first Relay was in SL 2011. In 2012 I helped bring Relay to IWz. In 2014 I join my local real life Relay group, and been involved with all 3 groups, every year, since. This year, I've pulled back some, and will be the first year, I will not hold any planning group role.
For
the most part, both RL and VR Relay are exactly the same. We joke about
no bugs, weather, parking, but we do have lag, and we do have sim
crossing parties. For the uninitiated, lag is just want it sounds like,
so many people are on one sim (server) the system can't keep up. Sim
crossing parties slightly different beast. Each sim is a different
server, so when moving from sim to sim, your avatar and all you are
wearing, needs to be handed off to that new server. When that fails,
people pile up at the sim boarder, trying to enter, hence, sim crossing
parties.
But you want to know something, the challenge of keep walking the track and dealing with lag and sim crossing issues, pretty much equals the challenges of dealing with weather, and temperatures, while walking, all night long.
The one thing VR Relay has over RL is our campsites builds. Most campsites are season themed, reflecting the Team's reason for Relaying, filled with advocacy information about cancer, health choices, mission messages and more. The biggest uniqueness for Relay on virtual grids is ability to communicate locally, within groups, group notices with tie-ins to social media, blogs and more, right across the whole grid, with the same abilities of using the fundraising dashboard, is virtual Relay's greatest strength. Virtual Relay transforms ones advocacy's signage, into a portals, able to span the world, free of language barriers.
The one marked difference,
from the virtual Relay I noticed, was during and following lighting of
the Luminaria. Wasn't until my second RL Relay, that I noticed it. Once
the Luminaria are lit, the track begins to stratify and have distinct
lanes. The outside lanes are for the runners. The middle lanes are for
the walkers. But that inside lane, next to the Luminaria, that for the
Luminaria shufflers. Moving one step at time, reading each and every
Luminaria as they go. Silently advancing, bit by bit, read, step
forward, reading the outpouring of love, all mindful of each other,
while the walkers are pacing their laps, further out. After a bit, I
find myself on that divide between the Luminaria shuffle lanes and the
walkers coming at me, just looking at all their faces. Right there, I
could see it in their eyes, that quiet, unspoken connection of the
heart.
In the wee hours of that night, when I found myself sheltering from the cold and light rain, alone with my thoughts, I found my thoughts bouncing back and forth between all my Relay experiences, that I now realize, Relay's greatest strength is it's sense of community it creates, it's sense of belonging. As an individual, I can build a house. But get a bunch of folks together, and we can move mountains, build a pyramid or a coliseum in short order. Together, we can help each other, each doing our part, all adding together, all the while, reaching our goals.
Lite one candle, you push back the darkness on a space, lite a bunch of candles, you brighten up the whole night.

Press Release: 2016 Relay For Life of InWorldz - Oct 15th 8am-8pm IWT
2016 Relay For Life of InWorldz Come to an End But The Fight Still Goes On
This Saturday, November 15th at 8am IWT***
and for the following 12 hours, we are inviting you to join us in celebration, with our 5th Relay season of Relay For Life of InWorldz.
This year we are delirious to announce, as of this past Sunday, you have helped our volunteers pass the Iz$ 4.5 Million Izzie mark, for this season! On behalf of all of us at RFL of IW, a warm thank YOU.
We are so proud of the hard work of so many people who gave their support to Relay For Life this season, from offers of time and talent for Relay. It is truly is a beautiful thing.
As
we wave our teams flag in fun, in the end, we are one big team and it
all goes to the same place. Big teams, little teams, individuals, big
donations, small ones, even a single izzie, all adds up to something so
much bigger than the sum of its parts. When we work together, we can
accomplish anything.Many parts of Relay is filled with symbolism, one of which is why we walk through the night. It symbolizes the journey of a survivor, from daylight of health, through the darkness of cancer and it's treatments, into the dawn of a new day of remission.
Come walk the day with us in celebration of LIFE.

Relay for Life in InWorldz Season Opener
The Relay for Life for Second Life raises hundreds of thousands of US dollars for cancer research every year. But the Relay does not confine itself to just one virtual world. Last Saturday, August 6, the Relay for Life of InWorldz had their Kickoff event. While a smaller event then it's Second Life counterpart in March, it still drew a number of people.

Relay For Life in InWorldz
With "Making Strides" taking place in Second Life, it's easy to miss another Relay for Life event going on: the Relay for Life fundraising season in the InWorldz grid. This year, their theme is, "Our Community of Hope."
This Saturday October 17 is the main event of the season. At 8AM is the "Warm-Up" party. At 9AM, the Opening Celebrations take place. The event goes on until 9PM Pacific time.
Wildstar Beaumont recently came up with a photo catalog of screenshots of the Relay track to give some hints of what will be around on the course this weekend.

The Relay For Life Walk in InWorldz
While the Making Strides fundraiser brought in funds for breast cancer research in Second Life, on the InWorldz grid, the Relay for Life has been having it's own season for raising cash. On November 1, the Relay for Life in InWorldz Walk took place. Several personalities noted for their work on the RFL in SL were there, and there was much to see as the charity closed in on it's two million mark.Read more on the event in Other Grids and MMOs.

The Weekend in Review
This weekend had a number of events. Halloween saw a number of parties, such as the one that took place at Luskwood, and the Making Strides "Romance Your Boo." There was also a Day of the Dead exhibition and related events as well. Making Strides would hold one final event this season, the Awards Gala. The Winterfell community would hold it's Eighth Anniversary. Artist Bryn Oh would announce her "Singularity" exhibit would soon be coming down. And in the InWorldz Grid the RFL in IW Walk took place.

Relay For Life in InWorldz Passes One Million Izs Raised
About a week ago, it was announced that the Relay For Line in InWorldz had passed a milestone. It's fundraising totals for the 2014 season had passed the one million InWorldz dollars, or "Izzies," raised.
The "Relay for Life in InWorldz" webpage listed the following totals:
| Team 1 | General Account | Iz$362,427 | ||||||||||||||||||
| Team 2 | Fashion for Life | Iz$166,961 | ||||||||||||||||||
| Team 3 | Tiny Steps for a Cure | Iz$307,200 | ||||||||||||||||||
| Team 4 | Tri Group Team | Iz$30,811 | ||||||||||||||||||
| Team 5 | Roleplay for Life | Iz$187,693 | ||||||||||||||||||
| Team 6 | Tsuki Mura for Hope | Iz$76,539 | ||||||||||||||||||
| Team 7 | Dragons for Life | Iz$8,040 | ||||||||||||||||||
| Total raised | Iz$1,139,671 |
"Izzies" are worth about half of what a Linden Dollar is worth. So while the total is smaller than the Relay for Life in Second Life, it's been growing. Last year the RFL in IW raised 325,000 InWorldz dollars (worth about 162,500 Lindens). The RFL in IW will go on to its own Relay Weekend on November 1.
This year, the Relay for Life in Second Life raised $415,422 US dollars for it's 2014 season.

Relay for Life in InWorldz Season Starts August 23
Just as the Relay for Life is winding down in Second Life, it's just starting in the virtual world of InWorldz.
We are so excited about this 3rd season of Relay
For Life of InWorldz with the theme of A Future Without Cancer and all the
changes we has been working on. Let me take you on a quick walk through.
We will be kicking off the season on August 23rd
at the new home of Relay For Life of InWorldz on Muse Island at 9am IWT. If you
have not seen Muse Island yet, I urge you to stop by and enjoy a beautiful sim.

This will be the third Relay season on the InWorldz Grid. Major events include the Fashion for Life from Sept 20 to 27, which already has several groups having joined, and the Jobs and Sevices Fair, where merchants and clubs can go look for help and musicians, builders, and others can show off their skills. The main event will be on November 1, which will go on from 9AM to 9PM InWorldz (and SL) time.
Last year the RFL in IW raised 325,000 InWorldz dollars (worth about 162,500 Lindens)
