Reader Submitted Picture: Stack of Airships

From Alen Cortez, taken at the Sailors Cove tp Smugglers Outpost Regatta in the Blake Sea on Friday January 6, "The airships were all being piloted at the time, I was in the top middle one. I was doing the flight with them for the first time. ... This pic was at the finish end of the flight, before we landed on the ground."

End the summer with a fun-filled day celebrating Rosehaven and it's beautiful waterways!

The plaza in Laudanum is the main landing point:
https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Rosehaven%20Laudanum/214/194/22

All along the Laudanum docks will be the boardwalk games, rides, foods, a couple's promenade walk on eitherside, prizes ... tons of fun! In the water at the edge of the Laudanum dock will be a cordoned space for inner tube bumper car play, as well as paddle and rowboats for cruising the water.

Dress code is within the theme of Rosehaven, with late Victorian attire (including bathing suits) suggested.

ANYTHING THAT FLOATS but is NOT a boat CONTEST. Be your most creative and enter something that floats. If it's not a boat (no rowboats, steam ships, tall ships, speedboats, canoes, dinghy, etc.) and it floats, you can enter your own creation. All flotations must be able to move, or sail, along the water of the canal, adding a sailing script is allowed. Prizes awarded for the most unique! (Register with either Duchess Wilner or Oriella Charik to enter)

STEAMLAND TEAMS SCULL RACING/RACE FOR THE GOLDEN OARS TROPHY. We have two-person scull boats (in the US, this is known as crew boars) ... please form your teams! Each of the Steampands is encouraged to send two people to represent their region. Last year's Golden Oars Trophy went to Rosement, and they are prepared to defend!

Practice boats are available in the water near the lighthouse at Dragonlight Plaza in Laudanum. Oars are provided at the dock ... please take a copy of the oars and have fun practicing! The course will be laid out in the channel  ... lighthouse bridge and back.

Please let Oriella Charik know via notecard the names of your rowers. Only teams of two are accepted. Team shirts will be provided.

There will also be fireworks! See you at the Regatta!

Announcement: 3rd Annual Rosehaven Regatta!

Come enjoy a fun-filled afternoon along the waters of Laudanum in Rosehaven for a proper Regatta!
August 30th, 1-3 pm SLT, at Dragonlight Plaza, Realm of Rosehaven, hosted by Chateau Trikassi.
In addition to the rides, games, food, dancing, there will once again be the Anything that Floats but is NOT a Boat contest.  Prizes will be awarded for creativity.  Rules are simple…the craft cannot be a boat of any kind (ship, submarine, row boat, speedboat, canoe, etc)…but must be a homemade thing-a-ma-jig that floats… sailing and steering scripts are allowed in order to parade on the water.
It wouldn’t be a Regatta without crew racing!  Beginning this year, the Rosehaven Regatta will feature the Race for the Golden Oars!

Teams from around the Steamlands are invited to enter.  Each 2-person team will have the chance to compete for the coveted Golden Oars Trophy.  This trophy will be awarded to the winning team. The trophy will remain for display at the winning team’s region for one year.  The trophy will move to the next winner’s region the following year, and so on.  The trophy will be engraved each year with the winning team name.  This will be much like the America’s Cup.

Each team is comprised of two people (team must be from same region).  Should a community or estate initially sign up with several teams, heat races will be held during the week of August 24th through 28th, to determine their one team competing at the Regatta. Scull boats will be available for practice at Dragonlight Plaza in Laudanum, Rosehaven, beginning August 21st.  Please sign up via Vic Mornington or Lady Oriella Charik by no later than Sunday, August 24th.  No last-minute teams will be allowed.  It is highly recommended all teams practice with the scull boats.  The boats have a synchronized rowing anim…so you and your teammate need to work together to control the boat.
Countess Cassie Eldemar has made the Golden Oars trophy, and it’s QUITE impressive! Rora Stytwytch, from RFL ACTS team, is making each official team special racing shirts for the rowers.  If enough crew teams sign up, there will be a special pre-Regatta dinner held at Flock and Feather Tavern in Reverie, Rosehaven for the competing teams and their supporters on August 29th.  Plan on some good-natured taunting and possibly a food fight!

Doctor Holocluck Henly will provide wonderful music for the day.

Mark your calendars!  See you all at the Regatta!

* * * * *
The 2nd Annual Rosehaven Regatta is August 18th, 2019 from Noon (12pm) SLT – 2pm SLT.
Once again, we will be featuring the ANYTHING THAT FLOATS…BUT IS NOT A BOAT contest and water race!  Hope you all are excited!!

Get your thinking caps on and create something fantastical…that is NOT A BOAT, but it does float!  The purpose of this event is to showcase your ability to design and build a water craft/vessel to travel in the water.  You must also be able to ride your floating invention.

Please let Duchess Liz Wilner or Oriella Charik know if you wish to enter.  All entries must be received and approved by no later than 11am SLT, August 18th for announcing at the Regatta. Prizes will be awarded for the ‘Most Unique’ and the ‘Fastest Vessel’.

This is a timed race. Depending on the number of participants, crews and their crafts will be lined up at the start/finish line, proceed down the canal to a designated turning point, go around a marker buoy, and proceed up canal back to start/finish line. There will be an official at the turn around the buoy to verify all contestants properly negotiate the turn around.

Rules: You may NOT utilize a commercially designed or distributed watercraft. Powerboats, canoes, kayaks, rafts, skiffs or other commercially designed craft will NOT qualify. Your vessel must NOT be commercially designed or built to travel on water. You cannot disguise an actual boat or ship for your craft. The vessels must be powered by Avi or wind energy; no swimmers pulling, pushing or propelling your craft.  NO engines, motors, trolling motors will be accepted. Sails, paddles and oars are acceptable. The decision of the judges is final. You must pick up the pieces if the vessel disintegrates in water or on land.

Hint: last year, for instance, we had a cupcake that floated and steered!
