Press Release: Fashion For Life

Relay for Life of Second Life announces the first mega event of the 2017 Season, Fashion For Life 2017. The event will take place on March 5th, 2017 and run until midnight on March 19th, 2017. As always 100% of proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

The goal of the event is to provide an incredible shopping and entertainment experience featuring unique items, runway shows. Lend your support to Relay For Life, the largest and longest charity in Second Life.

Some of the past themes have been Heaven/Hell (2007), St. Patrick's Day (2008), Pirates (2009), Fashion Capitols of the World (2010), Beyond Black and White (2011), It's time (2012), The Seven Ancient Wonders of the World (2013), Wanderlust (2014), Tour through the Capitals (2015), and last years theme That's Entertainment! (2016).

This years theme is... Glamorous.
Styles will range from formal to bohemian in a beautiful high fashion glamorous sim.

Multiple sims and fabulous builds along with some of SLs best designers, who come together each year to bring fun, fashion and entertainment to the grid! This Relay For Life mega event had its beginning in 2007 when it was called, “the Clothing Fair”.


About Relay For Life of Second Life:

Relay For Life of Second Life is an annual fundraising event that takes place in Second Life in July each year. Volunteers form or join teams to have fun while fundraising and raising awareness from mid-March through mid-July. In July teams build campsites and walk a track, just like a Real World Relay. Since 2005, RFL of SL has raised over $2.5 million USD for the American Cancer Society.  Since 1985, Relay For Life has become an international movement with over 5,000 Relays being held around the world. As of July 2014, RFL of SL ranks 17 out of 5,000! In fact, RFL of SL is the most global Relay event with teams and volunteers and supporters from more than 90 countries, worldwide.

The Halloween "Shop Til You Drop"

From a few days ago until Halloween, Linden Lab is hosting a shopping event, their Halloween "Shop Til You Drop." "With the Creepy Crawl less than two weeks away," they stated on their blog, " it’s time to get serious about Halloween. We’ve been brewing up a wicked treat that’s easy on the eyes and on your Linden wallet. Starting today through October 31st - we’re hosting a shopping event that is sure to liven any dead man’s party! With frights and delights from some of Second Life’s best designers at deals that seem simply insane - this party central for all things Halloween - is your one stop shop ( ‘til you drop!) Costumes, accessories, decor, and much more await you and your friends in this mysterious haunted village. I dare you to venture the cobblestone paths and see what our vendors have in store for you."

Published on Jun 12, 2015, "Paris, France based Maylee Oh makes a living by designing female apparel for avatars who live in the virtual world of Second Life. 'I can run my own business the way I like in terms of product and customer service!' says the 28-year old who worked for the better part of 8 years to establish her brand 'The Secret Store.' She is using a mix of creative tools such as Blender and Photoshop to arrive at a a unique and simple style that is quite popular among the millions of avatars from all around the world roaming the vast digital universe.

"And even being a freelance designer does not mean being lonely in front of a computer because Maylee's international collaborators share a virtual workspace in Second Life, they work indeed side by side and can productively socialize as if they were together in the physical realm. The concept of virtual goods and services as a means of income may still be esoteric for many says Maylee but she adds: '…when skeptical friends say it is a waste to spend money on dressing up an avatar I usually reply that they are buying my time, my idea of style that they can make their own. It is not a waste. A lot of thought and work went into this. Everyone including me wants to make their avatar look good, because clothing is personal expression! What is wrong with that?'

Luminous Designs

The Steelhead Steampunk community is known for it's friendly folk and craziness. But some of these folk do more than just provide chuckles. Lumina Elvehjem, better known to her neighbors as Lumi, runs her Luminous Designs store there. She provides Steampunk era clothes to both neighbors and visitors, as well as some whimsical items that could only come from the mind of a Steelheader. Recently, Second Life Newser stopped by to see what she has to offer.

Goddess Apparel

Today Netera Landar reports on the Goddess Apparel clothing stores, run by Athene Forder. Her most noted location is in the 1920's Chicago area, where she sells historically accurate gowns, such as her "flapper" wear. Her designs are the product of researching of fashions of the day.
