RFL Sunbeamers: The Bicycle Blimp Challenge

 

 Remember the Sunbeamers' Air Show? For the event, some activities for the residents were set up, which are still up for the moment. Among them is the Bicycle Blimp Challenge, a three-dimensional race course  at the edge of Farshore Field in Sunlight Bay.

 

A bike blimp giver is at the start and finish part of the course. Just touch the giver, and a package will appear in your inventory. Rezz the box and open it, and the blimp will appear in your inventory. Just click and select "add," and after waiting for 20 seconds for scripts to load, you're ready to race. 

 

To start, go to just behind the start position (don't forget to press fly), and press the panel in front of you.  After a few seconds, the panel turns transparent, and there's a starting horn sound. Rush forward immediately and follow the course, going through the rings. If you miss a ring, you'll be penalized a few seconds. Try to complete it as fast as you can, though some may go up again after the race just to admire the scenery. 

The best time is by Journey Texan at 56.34 seconds. How fast can you go?

EOTB: "Cycling Made In Second Life"

 

 

 On Tuesday October 2, Linden Lab would post on it's blog about the Second Life Cycling Federation. They would talk to it's owner, Alixtar Snook, as well as have Draxtor Despress do a video.

“Bill Jobs founded The Second Life Cycling Federation (SLCF) in early 2021 to promote cycle racing in Second Life. One of Bill’s tracks was the alpine road at Breakaway region, in association with the Chamonix sports event complex.

Scripter and SL content creator Claire had been racing in the group for a while when she offered to help Bill re-script his basic bike in a more optimized way. 

Bill is absent from SL now, but we did not want his SLCF creation to fade away so in January 2023 we began to rebuild the Federation.

Claire made a new bike using some of Bill’s previous bike mesh, and added many new features.

The SLCF group is free to join. We hold races usually Saturdays 2pm SLT and of course provide free bikes.

We modify the track route each week - sometimes at Breakaway, and sometimes we get invited to visit other roads and tracks like Hell On Heels group at Bikers Bay, at LC Racing Circuits, and the Rebel Riders group.

There is a Fastest Lap challenge that is open all week, then we race that road at the weekend. It is easy to get started, but harder to master than you might expect!

Some people are very competitive and practice a lot to win, and others just ride for fun and to make new friends.

The group has events every week. The Newser would write twice about the Cycling Federation in March and April 2021.

The SLCF's Second Life World Road Championship

  

Last month, we got a reader-submitted article about an event by the Second Life Cycling Federation. A few days ago, there was another event, the Second Life World Road Championship. This is an event the bicyclists hold every two months. Rosie (RougeRedHead01 Resident) was there, but not just to see who won. She also found out a little about the event and the cyclists.

Crew Meeting

From the Newser's last crew meeting on Saturday May 11, at our office in HV Community. Showing up from right to left were reporters Marcel Mosswood, Klaus Bereznyak, Deaflegacy, Bixyl Shuftan (myself), and Gemma Cleanslate. Also there were Velani and Rua Whitepaw as guests.

Gemma had a little something for those exploring around on the roads: a bike rezzer. The bike works well enough in-sim, though there may be issues with sim crossings.

Oh, as for those jokers who thought they could disrupt us by using a N-word gesture, we just turned down the sound.

We'll be busy in the coming month, covering Relay for Life events as well as the setting up for the SL16B sims for the anniversary celebrations next month. And next month we'll be celebrating our ninth anniversary. Assuming all goes as planned, we'll have a little something for you the readers.

Summer Treats - Aero Pines Park

Gemma Cleanslate recently found a place in Second Life to have some summer fun, Aero Pines Park and Recreation Center. The place, owned by Cindy Bolero, has a wide variety of activities from underwater merfolk places, to ballooning in the air, to bike riding, horseback riding, and more.
