Game Review: The Fiery Scion

Contributing writer Nydia Tungsten is back with another game review. In her latest article, she describes one game/visual novel, "The Firey Sicon." While the game clearly has an Adult rating, she felt it had a good plot. So what can a reader/player expect?

Game Review: Ark Survival Ascended

With everything going on in Second Life (and a busy editor), it's been a while since our last game review. However, Nydia Tungsten had a little time to check out one: Ark Survival Ascended.  The sequel to the long-running Ark Survival Evolved, the game has been mired in controversy with it's producers accused of cheating those who bought the original. So what did Nydia think of this game?

Reader Submission: Subnautica Below Zero Revisitied

Sunweaver community Rita Mariner is a longtime fan of the Subnautica game, a survival MMO that takes place in an environment they seldom go: an ocean. So when they came out with a sequel: Subnautica Below Zero, she checked it out while it was in early access and soon wrote her initial impressions. After some more time to play with it and see what's changed as the developers added some new features, and new challenges.

Reader Submitted: Game Review - Subnautica: Below Zero

Rita Mariner, when not Relaying or managing things at the Sunweaver community and it's clubs, has been spending some time playing Subnautica, and it's sequel: "Subnautica: Below Zero." The sequel's been in development for a while. Finally, the game has gotten to the point Rita felt she could do a review about it. So what did she think?

Game Review: GreedFall

There's a new game out that's gotten the attention of a few gamers: GreedFall. Set in a fantasy world that looks roughly like if 17th Century Europeans could use magic, the character plays the part of an explorer of a new land. Nydia Tungsten got the game and found the story an interesting one, with both sympathetic characters one wants to help and loathsome ones one wants to punch in the nose. Unfortunately, not everything about the game was so great.

Reader Submitted: Subnautica Below Zero, Part Two

Last month, Rita Mariner wrote about the sequel to the popular aquatic survival game Subnautica, "Subnautica: Below Zero." Since then, the early-access game has continued to develop, and Rita's continued to play, noticing both the changes and the deeper sea levels that getting better equipment has allowed her to do. So she decided to write once again about the game.

Reader Submitted: Game Review - No Man's Sky

About a year and a half ago, the computer game "No Man's Sky" made news. Initially getting attention for it's unbelievably huge universe of planets, it was found to have fallen so short of it's claims, it was under investigation for misleading advertising. But that wasn't the end of the game. Development continued, bugs were fixed (some of them), and the game improved. Former Newser writer Xymber Slade (known as Aegis Hyena on the Internet), got the game, and played it for a while. So what does he think?

Reader Submitted: Game Review - Subnautica Below Zero

A few months ago, Rita Mariner sent the Newser a walkthrough of the underwater survival game Subnautica. Lately, she's been playing a sequel: Subnautica Below Zero. Taking place some time after the events in the original, this time the player has to deal with surviving the cold waters of the polar region of the planet. So what does Rita think of the game?

Reader Submitted: Game Review - Farm Simulator 17

Farming is one of the oldest occupations, and the one that allowed the development of civilization. Once, most people were farmers. Today in developed countries, only a handful of the people are needed to grow everyone's food. While farming's a small part of many games, there have been a few in which it's the main point. "Farm Simulator 17" by Astragon Entertainment and Excalibur Publishing is the second most recent of a series of games of the name that over time have sold more than fifteen million combined. Among those playing it is Rita Mariner. She recently sent the Newser a story about the game and how to play it.

SL Universe in Ark

When it comes to games and Second Lifers, there's no shortage of them inworld, as "Tiny Empires" demonstrates. Outside of the grid, "Ark Survival Evolved" continues to be the favorite among the "Furry Gamers," the group of Second Life residents whom love playing games. But as it turns out, they haven't been the only ones in the Ark game lately. Another group of Second Lifers has given it a try: the Second Life Universe Forums.

Further Adventures in Ark Survival Evolved

It's been about a month since the Newser did a review on "Ark: Survival Evolved," the survival game on an island filled with dinosaurs. Since then, Bixyl Shuftan and some of his friends have continued playing the game, in both public and private servers. Here, he writes about some of the adventures, and misadventures, he and his fellow survivors have gone through, as well as a few more helpful hints and observations about the game.

Game Review: Ark - Survival Evolved

With "Jurrasic World" in the theaters in recent weeks, it's no real surprise a dinosaur game would be released to the public around this time. And on Steam, the latest wilderness survival game available, "Ark: Survival Evolved," takes place on an island full of dinosaurs and other prehistoric beasts. While some are strict plant eaters, and a few are completely harmless to even the clumsiest players, anyone who knows anything about dinos realizes any encounter with a meat eater bigger than you can end very badly. So does this game offer a T-Rex sized bite, or is it as dead as a dodo?

Game Review: Archeage

For her latest game review Nydia Tungsten has been playing the multiplayer online game "Archeage." As a Fantasy MMO, one might ask what distinguishes this from the crowd? There were several details that got her attention, a feline race with details like digigrade feet, the ability farm goods needed for quests and crafting, and a "labor point" system unique from any other game of it's kind. So what are the down sides of this (mostly) free to play online game and do the good points more than make up for them?

Game Review: Star Trek Online

While Wesley wrote about his trip to the Star Trek Museum (See Places), Bixyl Shuftan checked on on the Star Trek Online computer game. In a game full of Fantasy MMO's Star Trek is different with it's sci-fi setting, but also much more. In the game you play both in character mode and ship mode. You're also able to play a few missions written by other players of the game.

Game Review: League of Legends

Nydia Tungsten is back with another game review. This time she looks at "League of Legends," by RIOT games. Recommended to her by a friend, she saw a few trailers of the game while waiting for it to load, and was looking forward to playing it even more than ever. But did RIOT spend as much effort on their game as they did the trailer videos?

Game Review: Guild Wars 2

Grease Coakes is back with a review of a top-ranked Multiplayer Online Game: Guild Wars 2. Set on the fantasy world of Tyria, you play a character of one of several races and classes. Unlike other MMOs, the game requires a one time purchase with no monthly fees. So what did Grease think of the gameplay?

Game Review: Saints Row IV

Nydia Tungsten is back with another gaming review. This time she writes about Saints Row IV. The fourth game in the series, the characters have grown from humble orgins as a street gang to high profile public heroes. As part of the game's over-the-top plot, the player and his team and allies now have to contend with an alien invasion. So what did Nydia think of this crazy game?
