EOTB: Linden Lab Announces New Second Life Blogger Network

Today in the official blog, Linden Lab announced that there was a new network for those blogging about Second Life, the SLBN 2.0.

Are you a Second Life blogger, video streamer, or influencer looking to deepen your connection with the Second Life community? We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the Second Life Blogger Network 2.0 (SLBN 2.0)—an evolved version of our original initiative designed to take your content and influence to the next level.

The new group offers "occasional opportunities to meet directly with Second Life executives in a group setting to discuss platform news, updates, and strategic initiatives," early feature previews, and being able to "participate in closed discussions that allow you to provide feedback and shape conversations about the future of Second Life."

The original blogger network came about in 2019 and was put on hiatus in July this year.

Second Life Blogger Network Put On Hiatus

A few days ago, Linden Lab announced on the official blog that they would be temporarily pausing the Second Life Blogger Network.

As we continue to evolve and improve our various community initiatives, we have decided to put the Second Life Blogger Network (SLBN) on a temporary hiatus. This pause will allow us to dedicate resources to upcoming changes and enhancements designed to enrich our community's experience even further.

We sincerely appreciate the incredible contributions that each of you, our esteemed bloggers, have made to enrich the Second Life community. Please know that this decision was made with careful consideration and is not a reflection of the value we place on your work.

The Lab also stated they would be expanding the Second Life Weekly Email Newsletter, and invited people to use the Community Resources Portal.

The Second Life Blogger Network was introduced almost five years ago, in September 2019.

SL Video: " Longest Automated Flight Certification"

(Click here if the video fails to play)

From SLAviationNetwork on September 12, and pointed out to the Newser by Alden Cortes. As for as everyone is aware, this is the longest automated flight in Second Life. Here, a helicopter automated by Zipperhead Wurgle traveled for a total of 322 sims. There would be one instance of the filmer crashing, and having to catch up to the helicopter. Otherwise the flight went fine.

EOTB: Lab Announces "Casting Call" For Romance Stories For "Major TV Network"

For those of you who are willing to talk about your romances inworld, a recent announcement by Linden Lab may be for you. On Thursday July 15, The Lab announced on the official blog that "a major US network" was looking for Second Life romance stories for a show of theirs.

Here’s your chance to share the story of your romance or intimate relationship to a national audience as part of an all-new show in development for a major U.S. network!

An established NYC-based production company is now casting Second Life community members for an all-new unscripted series that will follow people who have met online and are ideally in a romantic relationship, but have never actually met in person. As part of the show, you’ll have a chance to meet in person for the very first time!

Other than the network being from New York City, there's no information as which one it is.  Those interested are asked to send an email to longdistancetvcasting@gmail.com. The offer is limited to US citizens 18 and over, and are asked not to share information that's sensitive and too personal.

Treet TV Stops Live Broadcasting

On Thursday July 7th, Treet TV’s Wiz Nordberg sent a message to all producers of the Second Life network’s program producers. Due to real-life matters, all live video production would be suspended indefinitely.

What is really occurring is a shift of priorities for us. Because the market is still quite small, Texas and I need to engage in Treet only part time. Using 100% of that time to film has left us with time for nothing else. Exciting changes to the website, new promotional features, and an exciting “Timeline of Virtual History” archive site never even have been started, not to mention many improvements in distribution, iPad and iPhone support, etc. We feel such innovations are necessary in this industry. So, shifting our priorities away from live filming is important for us to create more enabling technologies to help people contribute shows, manage shows, and get the most out of archives. We are committed to enhancing and enabling the community. Our website, resources, and streams will not only remain live, but we’ll be seeking ways to expand their availability to more and more people, and establish programs for showing people how we’ve achieved what we’ve achieved.

The website, and the storing of footage on archives will continue. What has changed is the shows will no longer appear on the Internet live. This will be considered a setback to many fans of the shows as some can’t always get to the sets on time, and for some shows like the Snail Races, the live feeds were needed to see what was going on between the distances and the lag.

For fans of Treet TV, this is sad news, in addition to the announcement of the popular “Tonight Live” show being canceled days ago. For it’s shows, this will mean new challenges and adjustments. For competing networks which never had live broadcasting, this may be an opportunity for their shows to achieve better ratings, an advantage of their competition now gone. For those organizing major events such as the Relay for Life, this will mean some changes as no longer, at least for a while, can they count on a live audience beyond what they can see inworld.

*Addition* Apparently, there will still be some live coverage of Relay for Life events (check comments).

“Virtual Tonight with Sam Nightfire” Launches

On Sunday January 16 at 8PM Second Life time, Sam Nightfire hosted the first episode of the “Virtual Tonight” talk show. The show was taped in front of a live audience in a skystudio high over the Virtual World Network sim. About 55 were in the sim.

For this first show there were several guests. First was Ray Hoffman, a builder and architect who owns the Envision Design and Envision Design & Architectural University, as well as the one who build the studio for Virtual Tonight. Also were Vista Coba and Nesto Quatro, the owners of the Virtual Realty Football League. The League had several teams, and to answer Sam’s question, yes they are still hiring cheerleaders. The musical guests were Automotive Quandry and the Automatic Band. The band had volunteered to do the theme song for the show.

The most noted guest was Jessica Lyon, the head of the Phoenix Viewer development team. It didn’t take long for the Emeraldgate issue to come up, and Jessica told Sam and the audience that her staff had learned a number of lessons from the scandal, and had set protocols in place to make sure nothing like that would ever happen with Phoenix. Unlike Emerald, Phoenix was devoted to transparency, she stated, so all changes to the viewer code would be published on the website as they happened.

Further tapings will be every Sunday evening at 8PM SL time at Virtual World Network (49, 58, 1010). The show “will have an array of topics ranging from current events and cultural trends to politics, comedy and more, all while bringing viewers closer to their favorite celebrities and notable public figures with revealing, compelling interviews.” It is owned by Virtual World Network, and produced by Ishelwood Studio. The shows will later be up for viewing on the Virtual World Network website, “sometime in January.”
