Nineteen Years Ago ...

It was nineteen years ago yesterday, December 17, 2006, in which I went to a place online one of my Internet friends had been bragging about. For some time, she had been talking about the fun she had on Second Life, showing some pictures of her appearance there. So when I finally got high-speed Internet, I would check out two places online, World of Warcraft and Second Life.

These days, I hardly ever go about Warcraft. But after nineteen years I still get on almost every day. Much has changed. It's owner Linden Lab has gone through a number of CEOs and being bought up. It's gone through a number of developments such as mesh and PBR. It's long past what's considered it's golden age when it was shiny and new. A whole generation has passed, people leaving from losing interest or dying, and new people getting on. But Second Life is still here and continuing to thrive.

It's become my main audience as a writer. But I still continue enjoying the places I see, the events I come across, and of course there's the people I meet.  There really isn't a reason to stop.

So baring some unforseen disaster, I'll still be coming on, and writing about, this wacky but wonderful virtual world.

The SL19B Sims Close to The Public

After being open for almost a month, the sims of the Second Life Birthday are now closed to regular visitors (baring a last minute glitch). While the last night the area is open usually is the scene of some impromptu music and dance parties, this time that wasn't the case. There were plenty of people checking out the "Shop and Hop" sims, but no DJs playing music that I could see.

For today and tomorrow is the "Takedown" or teardown when the exhibitors take down their builds. And then on Wednesday, only the Lindens and Moles will be able to access the sims as they close down, at least until next spring for the SL20B.

Some More SL19B Exhibits

The Second Life Birthday is almost history. After the end, all that will be left of the exhibits are memories, videos, pictures, and articles such as this. If you're in a hurry and want to check out what else awaits you that we didn't cover earlier, we wrote about a few more.

Some SL19B Exhibits

The events of the Second Life Nineteenth Birthday may be over (at least the official ones). But the exhibits are still up. And there are a lot of them. Here we look at several, from the Safe Waters Foundation to Firestorm with it's freebies to the story-driven Caledon one, and more.

Reader Submitted: The "Crystal Steampunk" SL19B Exhibit

While the Sunweaver community has no official exhibit, one of it's residents, DeniseUnicorn Toonie made an exhibit of her own: "Crystal Steampunk."

"Crystal Steampunk" is an exhibit created by DeniseUnicorn Toonie. She is a veteran with over 16 years of being on SecondLife.

She is also famous with her little box of Freebies. She also creates lots of other things. So check out the table with the box.

The exhibit is at SLB Enchant (152/187/24).
