Among the artists in Second Life, Bryn Oh is one known to many longtime residents. She not only does art, but some of her exhibitions such as "The Rabbicorn" used art to tell a story. Anita Kimono (Kayly Iali), recently interviewed Bryn. The artist discussed how she came to be an artist, her influences and inspirations, and more.

Bryn Oh's "Hand"

Bryn Oh, a noted Second Life artist, recently opened a new exhibition to the public, "Hand." Like her best known works, she uses three-dimensional art to tell a story. Here she describes Flit, a robed figure carrying a mannequin's going about a ruined area. Gemma Cleanslate went to take a look for the Newser. Dark but very detailed, this is an exhibit art lovers, especially those whom are fans of Bryn's work, will find interesting.

Bryn Oh is noted for her artistic builds at her Immersiva sim. But when a musician reminded her no events have been held there, she decided to have one. So last weekend, a number of people dropped by to listen to her favorite songs being played.

Bryn Oh's "The Singularity of Kumiko"

Bryn Oh, the noted Second Life artist, is back with another story by art. Her Immersiva sim is now hosting an exhibition titled "The Singularity of Kumiko." Bixyl Shuftan went over to take a look, and while there had a few words with the creator herself. So was the exhibit as good as Bryn's previous work?

Bryn Oh's "Imogen and the Pigeons" to Close

Second Life artist Bryn Oh announced on her blog that her "Imogen and the Pigeons" exhibit will soon be closing. The exhibition, which has been up since March, Bryn stated had been visited by over 50,000 visitors, and now, "I have a terrible building itch and a new idea that I have been wanting to try for ages now. … and sadly, in order to make new things, the older things must be deleted." Bryn is filming the exhibit, before closing it in a few weeks.

Bryn Oh's "Virginia Alone" to Close

In her blog, Second Life artist Bryn Oh announced her popular exhibition "Virginia Alone" would soon be closing. She is working on a new exhibit, and In order to finish and build it on her Immersiva sim she has to make room available. So to make room for the new, the older "Virginia" house will be removed.

I am working on a new build called Imogen and the Pigeons which requires me to delete Virginia Alone as I have just about run out of prims. I am going to leave it up until December 1st. Time flies and I still have a few more projects I would like to accomplish on Immersiva. ...  I would like to thank everyone who sent kind messages to Virgina through me. When I went to visit her she was really touched that people from around the world, whom she didn't know, would send her good wishes.



"Virginia Alone" was made in June, and since then has gotten rave reviews from the critics, and thousands of visits from residents. The exhibit is about a lone, blind, elderly lady in her house dealing with bouts of schizophrenia, knowing something's wrong with her but not exactly what. Health advocates have talked about the exhibition as well as art critics, saying it's helped remind residents of mental illness.

The exhibit is scheduled to close on December 1st. Until then, one can see it at Immersiva (21, 127, 21).

Bryn Oh Discusses "Virginia Alone" at Immersiva

Following the tour of Virtual Hallucinations on Sunday, October 14th, Bryn Oh gave a discussion about her "Virginia Alone" Exhibition at Immersiva. Among the residents there were a class brought in by a college teacher, many whom had just joined the Grid. About forty people were in the sim at one point. Unfortunetly due to a number of technical glitches that day, a number crashed. For about an hour, Bryn described what inspired her to do the exhibition, and answered some questions about it, inviting all to explore the house afterwards.

Virginia Alone

This summer, Bryn Oh has a special exhibit on her Immersiva sim: "Virginia Alone." The exhibit tells the story of an elderly lady whom lived alone in her house for twenty years, nearly blind and suffering from mental illness. She knew something was wrong with her, and over the years made numerous tape recordings in an attempt to understand what was wrong with herself. Bryn interviewed her, and made the exhibit.

SL Machinima: "The Path"

"The Path is an Exquisite Corpse narrative created by virtual world artists. They were by order of scene: Bryn Oh, Colin Fizgig, Marcus Inkpen, Desdemona Enfield, Douglas Story, Maya Paris, Claudia222 Jewell, Scottius Polke and Rose Borchovski.

The artists were given a random order and upon composing a short narrative would then pass it on to the following artist in the sequence who would then add to it and continue passing it on until reaching the final artist.

Thanks everyone the artists really made it easy for me to film. ... I only use SL for my machinima and as untouched as possible. I build on my region called Immersiva. Also is a group of the same name if you would like to hear of new openings, the only drawback being you have to listen to me blather on about things sometimes."

Bryn Oh’s Immersiva's Crowdfunder-Style Fundraiser a Success

While SOPA and PIPA made headlines last week, there were other events of note on the Grid. Among them was news about noted artist Bryn Oh and her artistic Immersiva sim. A Crowdfunder - type project to fund the place reached it’s goal after only a day after it began.

To begin with, the Immersiva sim was closed in December when her patron ran out of money. She with Kiana Writer of Madpea wrote a joint letter to Linden Labs to try and convince them to let her keep the sim. It was rejected. Following that, she decided to try a crowdfunder style prioject at Indegogo.com. Set to run for sixty days, with larger donations would come gifts. A donation of fifty dollars would get one a rabbicorn scultpure for one’s Second Life account. A hundred dollars would get one five sculptures “and the private use of Immersiva on your rez day.” $500 would get one an ink drawing. $1000 an oil painting. $3,000 a commissioned painting. $500 and up would also get one listed in Imersiva as a sponsor.

To everyone’s surprise, Bryn got a large donation from film director Peter Greenway. As it turns out, Greenway’s a sponsor of art in Second Life. He donated six months worth of teir for Immersiva. Hamlet Au quoted him as saying, "In the exciting new arena of immersive Art which offers so much to the future of communications, Bryn Oh is an important, fascinating and innovative pioneer and should definitely be supported."

Not only have the donations continued, but she raised over $6,000 in a single day! This is more than the original goal of $5400. Only a few hundred more has come in since then, but the massive start ensures the fundraiser is a success.
