Online Cartoonist Tiffany Ross Hospitalized

 

 

Sad news for fans of Tiffany Ross, the artist behind "The Cyantian Chronicles" and a number of other online comics. A link posted on her Discord stated she was recently admitted to the hospital for problems with her lungs.

Tiffany became very ill the second week of January and it’s serious—VERY serious. She’s in the ICU with extensive respiratory issues, and is having a difficult time. Which is, to say the least, expensive.

We’re in a bit of a holding pattern as Tiffany works to pull through and her family decides what further help they might need—but in the mean time, we’re asking if you would share the link to her books and build up her sales.

She’s a talented artist, a killer beta reader, and an excellent author. ... She is warm and funny, generous to a fault with her edits, and a stellar human. 

It's been posted on her Discord that she is improving, but slowly.

 

Tiffany Ross started the Cyantian Chronicles, originally titled Satin and Silk, in the late 1990s (check the review of in in this article). Over time, she would start others such as Alien Dice. She has also gotten into writing, describing herself as an "urban fantasy" author, having written a novel, "Rex Regis," and has contributed to several anthologies.

Gemma Cleanslate recently checked out a new art instillation, the Shui Mo Gallery. Exhibiting the art by the talented Fionafei, Gemma saw numerous paintings and 3D work of hers. She also got to talk to the artist herself. So what did Gemma think?

Interview With Talia Sunsong

 

Next to Netara's Coffee Lounge in Sung Harbor is an art exhibit, "Fire and Water." The paintings are done by Talia Sunsong. A few days ago, I had a few words with her about the exhibit and her paintings. She had a number of things to say, including that besides a painter she also writes.

Help Wanted: Artist Needed For Profile Picture of Deathlands Leader

 

For artists in Second Life, Rebel Wolf (HermitBlue Resident), aka The Baron, the owner of the Deathlands, is looking to hire one. The picture he has in mind is one of his face, for his Second Life profile.

"I want my face portrait drawn for my profile," he explained, "and don't know any good (artists). ... I just want a picture for (my) profile."

People can contact him by IMing if he's on, or by notecard if he isn't. He can also be found at his sim, the Deathlands at Paradise Kingdom (88/35/22), notably at the Fallout Shelter when it has events Sundays 4-8 PM SL time.
 

Interview With Bryn Oh

  

Among the artists in Second Life, Bryn Oh is one known to many longtime residents. She not only does art, but some of her exhibitions such as "The Rabbicorn" used art to tell a story. Anita Kimono (Kayly Iali), recently interviewed Bryn. The artist discussed how she came to be an artist, her influences and inspirations, and more.

Interview With Kyoko Furse-Barzane (Samara Barzane) About The Arts

   

Kyoko Furse-Barzane (Samara Barzane) is known for a number of things in Second Life. She's been one of the Confederation of Democratic Simulator's most noted residents, and is currently it's Chancellor. But she's also an artist, in addition to having run and owned a number of art galleries inworld. She is currently the curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art in the CDS. Kayly Iali recently interviewed her about what she's done with the arts over time. Kyoko had quite a bit to say.

Interview With Sabine Mortenwold

 

Newser reporter Kayly Iali recently met up with Second Life artist Sabine Mortenwold. Sabine describes herself as a mixed-media artist, one whom has been painting most of her life. She has had works on display in a few galleries, and has her own high above the Oxygen sim. Kayly interviewed her, and she would describe how she paints her works, what other artists she admires, and more.

Panda Jenn's Pad, Rebooted

Remember Panda Jenn's Pad, which was written about last year? Sadly, it was taken down after the owner of the land left Second Life. But Panda Jenn (PandaJenn0 Resident) recently told me the venue is back. This time, it's high over the Zeta Valley sim.

Like before, it's meant to be a comfortable hangout. As when it was first around, one can listen to the music, as well as dance away to it with a friend, or with one or two bot dancers who are sometimes there. But there have been some video games added. One can also order a drink from Deadpool at the bar. And there's the artwork of Jenn's. She's added many more of her pictures.

Jenn also told me a special party is being planned for the 20th anniversary of the character Panda Jenn. It's scheduled for Saturday February 20 between 6 and 9PM.

Jenn, Jennifer Carnivele in real life, is known for her online comic "Simply Panda Jenn," and for her artwork, which one can find on her Fur Affinity and Deviant Art pages.

Interview with JolieElle Parfort

 

JolieElle Parfort is a real-life artist whom shows her works here in Second Life. She describes herself as being one all her life. Her most recent way of doing art is to take photos and using digital tools to make them into painting-like images. Recently, Newser reporter Kayly Iali interviewed her about how she became an artist and how she came to the virtual world.

Moya, The Artist and Location

 

One artist who's been part of Second Life for eleven years is Patrick Moya (Moya Janus). A friendly man, Moya was happy to take Gemma Cleanslate on a tour of his four-sim area. Moya is known for his light-hearted work, often putting his likeness in it. And there's much of it to be seen of many varieties, both at his sim and other places on the Grid. Gemma was impressed, calling him one of the most interesting people she met in Second Life.

Second Life artist Aneli Abeyante has been exhibiting her work in the virtual world for a number of years. Her most recent exhibit is at her Gallery in Virtual Holland named Maison d’ Aneli. There, the works of nine different artists can be found, in addition to her own art. Kayly Iali went there to take a look.

Announcement: Virtual Ability Presents Tucker Stilley Art Exhibit

 

Virtual Ability announces the opening of an exhibit by Tucker Stilley in the Cape Able Art Gallery on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, from noon to 2pm SLT.

Tucker is an artist in four genres: music, film, lifestyle and painting. This gallery show displays 20 of his works. Tucker has ALS (amyotropic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease) which has resulted in progressive paralysis of his body as it leaves his mind and creativity intact. He has come to a deep understanding of the frailty of the human condition over the past 15 years.

Tucker has had a Second Life account since about 2005. Over the years, as his disease progressed, he has used a variety of assistive technology, not only to access Second Life, but also to create his art. Most recently he has used eye gaze technology.

However, now that he can no longer reliably control even his eyelids, he will not be able to attend the opening event. His sister Kate Stilley Steiner, a documentary filmmaker, will be available to respond to questions. Music for dancing will be provided by DJ Suln Heartsong.

Treasure Ballinger, curator of the Gallery, said, "As estate manager for Cape Able, and a member of the Virtual Ability Executive Team, I'm honored to facilitate the exhibit by Tucker Stilley.  His love of art is apparent, as well as his obvious determination to 'get it done'.  Welcome to Excellence!"

The general public is reminded that if you are unable to attend the gallery opening on Tuesday between noon and 2pm SLT, you can visit the sim at any time during January to see this impressive exhibition.

The Confederation of Democratic Simulators is home to a number of creative residents. Among them is artist Kayly Iali, whom paints in real life and shows it her in Second Life. Recently, the Newser had an interview with her. She would describe how she came to Second Life, and how she came to be an artist here.

Last University of Western Australia Sim to Close - Final Art Event in November

A sim that's made the news a number of times in the past will soon be closing, and will have one final event.

Longtime readers may remember the University of Western Australia area in Second Life for it's yearly art competitions, which offered prizes that once exceeded a million Linden dollars. But in December 2015, it was announced the competition then would be the final one. In September 2016, it was announced four of the five sims would be closed down. But a month later, it was announced the sims had been given a reprieve (one transferred to someone else). In March 2017, it was announced the reprieve on three of the four sims left was ending. But one of the three would get another break, so two would remain. One last prize money competition would be organized by supporters in March 2019. This would be the last time the Newser would write about the area, it's long term future in doubt. Still, the UWA area would be the scene of some weekly events for a time (UWA blog).

But it seems almost five years after the end of the yearly art competitions, the UWA area has finally run out of chances. It was announced in the UWA 3D Art and Design Challenge group that the last sim, University of Western Australia, would soon close, after Midnight December 31st . So it it's honor, there would be one last event.

One last show... let's make this a good one.

This is a grand finale, a sad farewell to show our gratitude to UWA and all that they did for us as artists, curators, and residents of SL. Their work brought life and beauty to all of us and made the art world in Second Life a thing to behold.

The theme is "Gratitude"
This art show is open to everyone. The theme is “Gratitude” with a 150 prim limit per artwork, and limited to one entry per artist.

Why The Theme “Gratitude?”
For over a decade, the University of Western Australia has been synonymous in the minds of many residents of Second Life with the arts and the support thereof. Their work was unparalleled on the grid, and made waves in the art world that, even as they prepare to close their sim, resonate through the art world today.

There are so many people whose lives they touched in one way or another. So many artists found inspiration in their 3D Art Challenge themes, and support in the encouragement of the community they created.

I, Chuck Clip, am one of them, and I am honored and humbled to have been granted the chance to organize this event. I’ll attempt to carry their extraordinarily heavy torch, to continue to support the arts in Second Life in their stead.

Let us all come together this one last time to say thank you to the men and women of this great institution, to celebrate their achievements, their impact on our own achievements, and to mourn their departure. 

The deadline for interested artists to enter is November 1. There's a 150 prim limit per exhibit, and "Artwork entered should be able to be interpreted by the casual viewer as being representative of the theme." To enter, head to the UWA landing point at University of WA (76/227/25) or to Sinful Retreat (137/142/52). Both sims have a UWA Art Show Submissions box located there, "To submit entries, select the entry in your inventory (left mouse button) and then press CTRL & drag the entry while holding down that key to the UWA Art Show Submissions box. When the cursor is over the box (red outlines should appear around the receiver box), release your left  mouse button and the item is received. Do this for BOTH your entry and your Artist Notecard." Those who have problems doing so can pass the exhibit and the artist notecard to Chuck Clip.

The event opening is November 11, from 12 Noon to 4pm SLT. Exhibits will be taken down on Dec 31 or just before, before the sim closes.

Scraps: Collages at Montara Bridge Works Gallery

After some time taking care of things in real-life,  Newser reporter Klaus Bereznyak is finally back with a story. He had recently been to the Montara Bridge Works Gallery, where there's a new exhibit: Scraps. Done by Veyot, she has been making collage art for several years. So what did Klaus think?

"Panda Jenn's Pad" Over Bellesseria Island

In just a matter of months, the new continent of Bellesseria and it's surrounding islands have become home to quite a community of residents. A new club just opened there, "Panda Jenn's Pad."

Panda Jenn (PandaJenn0 Resident) was the lady who set up the club, "It's a hang out for furs and such," she told me, "It's a small place, but it's meant to be a cozy hang out area." The place itself is mainly a dance floor, with some of Panda's artwork on the wall. The radio stream plays All Fur Radio twenty-four hours a day, so people can come any time to listen to music. There's also a pool table for a game.

We still have some things to add and move around. For the most part, it's ready to go." Panda doesn't own the land itself, "My friend Logan has property there. The Pad is just above it."

Panda is somewhat new to Second Life, though she's been an artist for some time. She has an online comic, "Simply Panda Jenn," that updates about twice a month. She also has artwork on Fur Affinity and Deviant Art.
