Winter Burn Festival Ends

 

 Last night were the final events of the Winter Burn, the Burn2 spinnoff event taking place in January at Burning Man Deep Hole. Late into the night, a few dozen people partied it up.

 

 While the DJs played music from the stage, some from the crowd cheering them on.

 

 While the events are over, aside from occasional unscheduled ones, the builds (most of them) will still be up for a few more days for those who couldn't make it or wanted to avoid the lag.

Winter Burn This Weekend (Last Events Tomorrow)

 

 For Burning Man fans, this weekend offers a treat. The Winter Burn event is taking place at Deep Hole Burning Man, with numerous builds on the sim and music events.  The theme for this year's Winter Burn is Winter Gardens

 

From January 23 to January 25, BURN2 returns with Winter Burn, transforming the Playa into snow-dusted Winter Gardens filled with handcrafted glass greenhouses. Inspired by the culture of Burning Man, this community-driven event invites participation through art, music, shared gifts, and creative expression. 

Explore performance stages, roaming art cars, an ice rink, and the iconic Effigy, all designed to spark connection and creativity.

 Checking things out, the combination of ice and lights at night was just beautiful with some of the builds.

 

 And with one event, the dance floor turned out to be a huge sled that slid across the snow.

A Few More Christmas Locations and Displays

 

Gemma Cleanslate found lots of Christmas-themed locations this year. But before Santa arrives with his presents, a few more Holiday themed places, and an Xmas display or two.

 Grendles' Children, the long-lived shopping mall, had this unusual Christmas tree, or should we say "Tree-Rex", up. Toady Nakamura says there will be tinies caroling at different times Christmas day.

Featured in the latest Second Life Destinations was Silent Night. Made by Nessa Nova, it was described as "like a movie set, with visitors starting at a train station before following a path through the snow and glowing trees to a cafe, an ice skating rink, a carousel, and more. The atmosphere feels at once unique and familiar, like a communal reverie." Nessa made it in part to help people depressed about the Coronavirus Pandemic and how it put a cloud over the year. Christmas at Devon Dream

 

There's a number of Christmas displays across Second Life, some large, some small. One I see every year is in Devon Dream, made by Safra Nitely. After most of the job was done, Safra invited me to take a look around. While she had been building for less than a day, already plenty had been done.

Interview With Xirana Oximoxi

 

Among the artists showing their real-life works here in Second Like is Xirana Oximoxi (Nuria Vives). Her work is shown in a number of places inworld from landscapes to abstracts to illustrations books. Kayly Iali recently met up with her, and interviewed her about her inspirations, galleries, and her children's stories.

Raglan Shire's Artwalk 2020

Raglan Shire, the most noted community of tinies, is having its most popular event which brings over people of all avatars from across Second Life. They are having their annual Artwalk art festival, their 15th.

The Raglan Shire ArtWalk will be once again opening it’s Hedge to thousands of pieces of real life and virtual art in just a week! We have close to 200 artists signed up and there’s always time for more to get involved! 

With tons of different styles and types of art and creativity not to mention interactive events and live musical performances, the ArtWalk has become a staple of what can be done in virtual spaces when so many come together to exhibit their work and provide an atmosphere of fun and creativity which, incidentally is what Raglan Shire was founded on.

There are numerous examples of paintings and sculpture up on display, as well as a few SL screenshots and real-life photography. The quality ranges from beginner to experienced. One group of artwork that got my attention were the 3D Chinese paintings by Fiona Fei. One example of 3D artwork was to be walked about from inside. With seven exhibition areas in four sims, there is much to see for both art fanciers and those just looking for something nice to put on their wall.

The event began Sunday May 17, and goes on to June 21st.

Scenes From the Burnal Equinox

A week and a half ago, the Burn2 spinnoff event, the Burnal Equinox, took place in Second Life. While not as big as Burn2, it does offer a chance of fans of the event to have a taste of it half a year before the main event. I went there, and got a few pictures.

Journeys Across the SL14B: Resident Exhibits at Electrify

The Second Life Fourteenth Birthday celebrations have been going on all week. For us reporters, the biggest problem about the exhibits, many showing high skill and creativity, is that there's not enough time to write about them all. So one has to start somewhere. So here's a look at several exhibits of SL14B Electrify, which besides the Second Life Newser has the National Space Society, the Giant Snail Races, the Second Life Coast Guard, and more. Some were just displays, but others were interactive.

The Story of Second Life, 1999 - 2017, At The LEA

After a necessary leave of absence, Gemma Cleanslate is back. Her first article once she picked up her pen again was appropriately enough about the history of Second Life. At LEA 25, there is a new exhibit about past events, and aspects, of the virtual world. Designed by Sniper Siemens, there one can read about the closing of the casinos, camping and why it went away, Philip Linden, and more.

Press Release: Steelhead Art City

Art City Kickoff
June 12th
The kickoff begins Friday June 12th with Vincent Starry Night Dance. Come as your favorite Artist, or favorite piece of art.

Painted Purple Flower Walk, an RFL event
Friday June 19th
We will be setting up a purple flower garden in Steelhead St Helens. If you would like to dedicate a purple flower to a loved one we'll have those available in June. Our RFL event will be Purple Rain for the Friday night Dance. The garden will be left up through the end of the RFL relay weekend.

Artwork Displays running from June 12th through June 30th
Artists will be assigned their spaces. We can begin doing installations and hanging on the 9th.

Photography Displays
We're making space for everyone interested to hang pieces of original photography. The photography can be anything in SL or in RL. We will also have a wall of Steelhead photography in the Steelhead City Hall where everyone can contribute photos of Steelhead. If you are interested in contributing photography please contact Eladrienne Laval to get your official frame. The deadline to adding photos on the walls is June 11th.

Drawn Artwork Display
For those who draw or paint in the outside RL world. If you are an artist and would like to contribute some of your artwork please let Steelhead Resident know by June 9th so we can set you up with a wall or area to display your creations. Please contact Eladrienne Laval with the amount of art you are wishing to display so we can set you up with a location.

Sculpture Art Display
For those interested in creating a sculpture display. We would like to give you a small lot and prims to work with so you can create a prim collage or sculpture or diorama. These sculptures will be set up in Steelhead Harborside. Please contact Eladrienne Laval asap to be assigned a location.

Art Exhibits
If you'd like to display an exhibit around art or your favorite artist please contact Eladrienne Laval or Steelhead Resident so we can get you set up with an area and prims for your exhibit.

Poetry and Storytelling Art
We will be hosting a Steelhead style Poetry Slam complete with guns nuns and nuclear bombs. We are still working on dates for our storytelling art and poetry slam so we'll have more information on that soon for sign ups. Jaz Beverly is going to be directing the storytelling.
