Happy Equinox!
As the Winter comes to an end, Spring brings the hope of renewal and rebirth. Includes flowers blooming, and the dance of life.

Hope springs eternal in the human breast;
Man never Is, but always To be blest.
The soul, uneasy, and confin'd from home,
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.
- Alexander Pope, An Essay on Man

We are coming out of one season, into another. We humans have always found hope in things that we may not quite see - the kiss of the sun's warmth, the movement of sap in the trees, difficulties and struggles giving way to resolution and peace. Flowers break through the surface of cold ground, reminding all that better days are coming.

Since time immemorial, we have seen the cycles of life, seasons, generations, learnings, unlearnings, relearnings, new learnings. Growth and regrowth. Find this renewal of hope within yourself, let it spark new life, then let's come together to share this, to lift each other up.

Burnal Equinox will open on Friday, March 22nd, with a soft opening walk-on by the Lamplighters 5pm SLT. All are welcome to join the walk around the playa for a first look at the wonderful variety and creativity of art surrounding the effigy which is, at the moment, a glowing enigma at the center. We have some surprises for you!

We are all excited and very much looking forward to another event at Burn2. We invite you to join us in celebrating this Equinox weekend! More information can be seen on our website.

At this midpoint in the year between our big burns, lets celebrate who we are, and share peaceful practices handed down through the ages. Lets enjoy all the different interpretations of Equinox and come together to celebrate the Equinox Burn.

Burnal Equinox : Time Travel

This past weekend, Gemma Cleanslate was at the Deep Hole sim for the Burn2 spring event, the Burnal Equinox. The theme this year was "Time Travel." As usual, there were a number of interesting artistic builds. But there were also some talented music performers as well.

A Busy Weekend

It's been quite the busy weekend in Second Life. Friday was the "Yuri's Night" celebration held by the National Space Society. The anniversary of the first man in space was also one of the themes at the Burnal Equinox, which ran from Friday to Sunday night. There were also a number of Relay for Life events. Saturday had the Sunbeamer Air Show which launched Team Sunbeamers well into Gold level fundraising. On Sunday was the conclusion of the "Bid Me Bald" Team Challenge which raised a total of almost a half million Linden dollars in which the Cure Chasers team won and Mieville Steampunks ended up with bare scalps.

More information on these happenings, and more, to come.

Burnal Equinox: Eyes To The Skies

The Burnal Equinox, the spring spinnoff event of Burn2, starts today and goes on to Sunday. There will be art to see, and music to listen to. For more information about the festival, Newser reporter Marcel Mosswood went to talk to iSkye Silverweb, one of the leading volunteers. iSkye had a number of things to say about the event.

Read Marcel's interview in Events.

Burnal Equinox Starts Today

The Burnal Equinox art and music festival starts today, Friday April 12. From today at 10 AM to Sunday at 11PM, the Spring Spinnoff of the Burn2 event will take place with many sights to see, and much tunes to listen to.

Burnal Equinox is our traditional event that we hold midway between our annual October “big Burn” events. This year the theme for the spring event is “Eyes to the Skies”. Creatives are invited to start thinking about tunes, writings and art to bring to the playa.

So, what is this “Eyes to the Skies” theme about? And when is the event? Glad you asked.

The next event of Burn2, Burnal Equinox, takes place the weekend of 12th through 14th April. As it happens, the opening coincides with a worldwide celebration of the first human to enter space, called Yuri’s Night.

So, how do we celebrate space, the Great Beyond, on the dusty dry desert lake bed we call the Playa? That’s for YOU to decide! While keeping playa aesthetics always in the forefront of your mind, you can create art and music to celebrate space, human curiosity, and the explorer’s spirit that led us to fly ever further “out there”.

You are invited to come and do this with us, explore with us, create with us, dance and play and … of course, BURN!

Scenes From the Burnal Equinox

A week and a half ago, the Burn2 spinnoff event, the Burnal Equinox, took place in Second Life. While not as big as Burn2, it does offer a chance of fans of the event to have a taste of it half a year before the main event. I went there, and got a few pictures.

Press Release: Burnal Equinox

Burnal Equinox
March 24-25, 2018
Opening 10:00am SLT, Saturday 24 March 2018
BURN2, Deep Hole

"H2O = Water but H2+O = Fire"

What does this two-part statement mean? The first we all know, H2O represents WATER. But...the second part is not a chemical formula; rather it is an attempt to describe the process of combustion that results in FIRE. Both utilise hydrogen and oxygen, but manifest in different ways. Thus we express the concept of Equinox and the dichotomy of fire and water.

The event opens with a walk-on by the Lamplighters at 10:00am SLT on Saturday, with Burners and observers welcome to join us on our little walkabout to the stage and kick off the event .

Here are just a few of the performers you will see at BURN2::
BURN2 Fashion Show
The Vinnie Show
Yman Juran
Quartz
Stratus McTavish
A Limb
~DRUM~
Samm Qendra

SHARE the News and Plan to Come!

We look forward to welcoming Home Burners and community, to explore the builds and dance to the music that will fill the air over the playa. See the full BURN2 Calendar at http://www.burn2.org/calendar for the weekend’s event schedule.

The Nebula, the Burnal Equinox effigy, stands near the center of the playa. It is different to anything we’ve Burned before, and the planned spectacle is one you definitely want to witness! Come this weekend, for fun, art and music galore.

Press Release: "Burnal Equinox 2018: H2O = Water but H2+O -> Fire"

Creative Burners near and far, we call you to sign up and participate in the next event to take place on the virtual playa on Deep Hole: Burnal Equinox.

"H2O = Water but H2+O = Fire"

What does this mean? It is in two parts. The first we all know, that H2O represents WATER. But...the second part is not a chemical formula; rather it is an attempt to describe the process of combustion that results in FIRE. Both utilise hydrogen and oxygen, but manifest in different ways.

This excerpt from The Urantia Revelation may inspire ideas for creativity in building, art, and music for this event:

"Mathematics, material science, is indispensable to the intelligent discussion of the material aspects of the universe, but such knowledge is not necessarily a part of the higher realization of truth or of the personal appreciation of spiritual realities. Not only in the realms of life but even in the world of physical energy, the sum of two or more things is very often something more than, or something different from, the predictable additive consequences of such unions. The entire science of mathematics, the whole domain of philosophy, the highest physics or chemistry, could not predict or know that the union of two gaseous hydrogen atoms with one gaseous oxygen atom would result in a new and qualitatively superadditive substance—liquid water. The understanding knowledge of this one physiochemical phenomenon should have prevented the development of materialistic philosophy and mechanistic cosmology.

"Technical analysis does not reveal what a person or a thing can do. For example: Water is used effectively to extinguish fire. That water will put out fire is a fact of everyday experience, but no analysis of water could ever be made to disclose such a property. Analysis determines that water is composed of hydrogen and oxygen; a further study of these elements discloses that oxygen is the real supporter of combustion and that hydrogen will itself freely burn."

The event will officially open with a walk-on by the Lamplighters at 10:00am SLT on March 24th, and Burners are welcome join us in the fun. A fashion show will be featured at the stage during the event. A schedule of performances will be available closer to opening.

In the meantime, we come together as a community to prepare for this event. You are invited to PARTICIPATE, because no Burner is a mere bystander on the pixel dust of BURN2's Deep Hole playa that is our virtual Home. There are several ways in which you can do this.

Build on a Plot!
Plots are free, but limited in number. Begin planning your creative build - plots on the playa will open for building starting the 27th of February. Placement will contact you starting then for you to choose your plot.

Sign up early! First come, first served get the plots!

The Burnal Equinox, Roman Spring Festival, and Walpurgisnacht

Quite a lot has been happening in Second Life lately. Sometimes there's not enough time to give it more than a brief mention. Besides the Club Crawl and the Fantasy Faire, Sunday April 30 had three events going on. These were the Burn2 spinoff event Burnal Equinox art and music festival, the Roma Community Spring festival, and the Steamland's Walpurgisnacht party. The Newser stopped by at each.

A Busy Weekend

There's a lot going on this weekend. For Burn2 fans, there's the Burnal Equinox event going on in the Burning Man- Deep Hole sim. This year's theme is "The Sacred and the Profane."

Today also marks the last day of events at the Fantasy Faire. Yesterday was the tiny Jail and Bail, in which Clover Dezno and Druscillla Ferraris were in the clink, along with a few others such as Saffia Widdershins for "illegal twerking." About 208,000 Lindens was raised.

And there's the Relay for Life Club Crawl. Yesterday was the first half of the event, with the Happy Vixen and Club Cutlass (pictured above) holding events. The two clubs raised  about 30,000 Linden dollars today for Team Sunbeamers, bringing their total to 140,000 Lindens. Other teams did well too. Mel's Maniacs raised thousands of Lindens and are currently at just over 24,000 in total raised, almost at Rising Star status. Team Bonanza Country reached Gold rank, and Team Go the Distance, the organizers of the Club Crawl, reached Platinum.

The Club Crawl continues today, with the Happy Vixen going from 4 to 7 PM SL time at Purrfection Estates (236, 219, 24), and Xanado from 7 to 9PM SL time at HV Community (67/207/4051) .

Press Release: Burnal Equinox - The Sacred and Profane - April 28-30

What does this mean? The sacred–profane dichotomy is an idea posited by French sociologist Émile Durkheim, who considered it to be the central characteristic of religion:
"Religion is a unified system of beliefs and practices relative to sacred things, that is to say, things set apart and forbidden."
In Durkheim's theory, the sacred represented the interests of the group, especially unity, which were embodied in sacred group symbols, or totems. The profane, on the other hand, involved mundane individual concerns. Durkheim explicitly stated that the sacred/profane dichotomy was not equivalent to good/evil. The sacred could be good or evil, and the profane could be either as well.
The sacred represents the interests of the group, especially unity, which is embodied in sacred group symbols, or totems. The profane, on the other hand, involves mundane individual concerns.

As you enter the playa you will see individuals here and there, alone, moving further in, pairs and couples, until finally at the far corner you reach the stage, a hive for activity and community.  paths leading in, are symbolic of heading to a sort of place/person of worship... yellow brick road.  It is just an iconic path most would know and in terms of sacred, it went to the Emerald city to the home of the wizard who was like a spiritual leader, high powered spiritual leader that was in the end, a mundane man.

Scenes from the Burnal Equinox

Last weekend from Friday to Sunday, March 27 to 29, the Burnal Equinox art and music festival took place. Although smaller than the yearly event that inspired it, Burn2, there was still much to see and experience, art exhibits, DJs (including SL Newser's Grease Coakes), and even a tower burn.

See the pictures in Events.

What A Weekend

Lots of events happened this weekend. The big thing was the "Burnal Equinox" festival, which ended with a bang, or rather a tower burn. But there were other events such as a tank rally in New Bastogne, the "Homes For Our Troops" Benefit at Veterans Isle, the Bacchanalia in the Roma area, and of course the Relay for Life events, which included a mermaid party and a "jail and bail."

More on these later.

Press Release: Burn2 Burnal Equinox March 27-29

Burn2 is pleased to announce the upcoming event Burnal Equinox, which takes place March 27 through 29th this year. The Theme is "Balance."

Equinox is the time when the day and night are of equal length. It is also the start of both Spring (Northern Hemisphere) and Autumn (Southern Hemisphere). In the virtual world, we can mix all things together, so we can have bats flying down to sip the nectar from the new spring flowers in the daytime, or autumn leaves transforming into buterflies at night. Our only limitation is our imagination.

This event is a short but bright and exciting burst on the calendar. It will feature new and experienced artists, live musicians, DJs, and performers all working to an interesting theme. All are welcome to join the celebration.

Artists and builders are invited to sign up for a plot and build to the theme. DJs, live musicians, and performers are also welcome to apply to play during the event weekend.

Please let us know when you have included us in your publications as we link back to online TV, magazine and blog posts at Http://www.burn2.org/media_coverage. We would love to include you! Just email a link to your content to communications@burn2.org, and we'll include it.

Burn2 is the virtual extension of the Burning Man festival and community into the world of Second Life. It spreads Burning Culture and the Burning Man Ten Principles all year round. Burn2 is one Burning Man regional, out of more than 100 first world Regional groups.

We encourage you to use the following labels and hashtags when you write about the event: Burn2, #burn2. We will promote those tags to make it easier for people to find your content.

Hotter Than Air: The Burn2 "Burnal Equinox"

Time has  passing so quickly. Notice of the Burnal Equinox was released about two months ago... seems like last week! Next weekend the Burnal Equinox of Burn2 will be open .
I have been in the region, lost in the noxious green toxic waste that covers the ground in Deep Hole. But above you will find marvelous builds to investigate hovering in the clean air supported only by their own gaseous  inventions.  The center camp has be also been raised out of the goo and hovers in the air  held in place by balloon power. Parties will be taking place inside where I saw a great dj stage and a lovely piano waiting musicians.

I had a talk with the Event Coordinator, Leroy Horton (Demonstrating the gas mask) who told me that greeters will be handing out protective gas masks and directing all to transport balloons to access the Center Camp and to other balloons that  tour the entire area.  The event will be open to the public Friday, March 28 at 12PM SLT.The lamp lighters procession will open the festivities.  The event will be open through March 31 when it will close at 1am slt.  so you will have plenty of time to visit more than once. Put it on your calendar for next weekend.

Check out the video (below article) and keep the event list below.
