At Burn2 Conception

This past weekend from Friday July 24 to Sunday July 26 was Burn2's Summer Burn event, also known as Conception. This year's theme was "The First Spark."

Friday night, I dropped by for a look, and the Burners were partying. Playing music that night were Red Heaven, Elysienne Nebula, Magi, and Dre. I also heard there was a particle show scheduled.

Quite a lot of fun was had, the Burners telling me, "Welcome home."

It was quite a fun three days. But in a few months the "Octoburn," the main Burn2 event, will take place, with not just a weekend, but several days of art, music, and fun over Deep Hole and several other sims.

Winter Burn Festival Ends

Last night were the final events of the Winter Burn, the Burn2 spinnoff event taking place in January at Burning Man Deep Hole. Late into the night, a few dozen people partied it up.

While the DJs played music from the stage, some from the crowd cheering them on.

While the events are over, aside from occasional unscheduled ones, the builds (most of them) will still be up for a few more days for those who couldn't make it or wanted to avoid the lag.

Winter Burn This Weekend (Last Events Tomorrow)

For Burning Man fans, this weekend offers a treat. The Winter Burn event is taking place at Deep Hole Burning Man, with numerous builds on the sim and music events.  The theme for this year's Winter Burn is Winter Gardens

From January 23 to January 25, BURN2 returns with Winter Burn, transforming the Playa into snow-dusted Winter Gardens filled with handcrafted glass greenhouses. Inspired by the culture of Burning Man, this community-driven event invites participation through art, music, shared gifts, and creative expression.

Explore performance stages, roaming art cars, an ice rink, and the iconic Effigy, all designed to spark connection and creativity.

Checking things out, the combination of ice and lights at night was just beautiful with some of the builds.

And with one event, the dance floor turned out to be a huge sled that slid across the snow.

Burn2 Art Car Races

On Friday night, November 7, I heard about one more event at the Burn2 area before things were cleaned up, an Art Car race event. Dropping by, some people were dancing, but others were on the tracks.

The art car races are getting rolling. Choose from 24 race cars that go 100mph on our 12-region track. Lily is DJing some great tunes in the stage area. Come join us! Burning Man- Deep Hole (127,83,25)

People would drive solo in cars or bikes, seeing how fast they could make the track.

 Or race with one another.

On occasion, a care of motorbike would have some mechanical difficulty, "Don't hurt yaself Sam, accidents happen."

So it seems the Burners were, burning rubber.

Announcement: Skin Burn

The Tomorrow Today world of Burn2's Octoburn event was amazing, wasn't it? And it still not quite over yet...

SOOOOOOOOoooooooooo...What's coming? SKIN BURN!

When?  SATURDAY, 8th November 2025
Times?  BURNS: 12pm SLT and 6pm SLT (yes, we will do it twice)
            CHECK-IN: 10-11:30am SLT, 4-5:30pm SLT
Where? (location of check-in platform to be announced on website and notices)

WHAT IS SKIN BURN? Glad You Asked!
Skin Burn is a BURN2 decompression event, an encore Burning of the Man in a low lag environment.

WHY do we do this?
During the weeklong annual Burn event, the sims can get pretty laggy, so some Burners don't get to see the Man Burn quite so well. Thus we have an encore Burn with lower lag for everybody.

HOW do we do it?
We STRIP - down to our skins!

Doesn't matter - system avatar or mesh body/head avatar.  Get down to just your skin, take off and detach everything else.
Then, decorate that avatar! Use skins, system layer clothing, BOM... get creative! EXPRESS yourself!
More details about the steps can be seen here: https://www.burn2.org/tomorrowtoday/skin-burn/

You can pick up some system skins and copies of the scales we will use at the check-in area, and prepare ahead of time:

Burn2 Starts Today

Halloween may be the big thing in Second Life in October. But there's also one more huge event: The Burn2 art and music festival. This is the virtual version of the real-life Burning Man festival that takes place every year in Black Rock Nevada several weeks earlier.

From today to Sunday October 27, there will be music parties and other events across 12 sims. And there are numerous art exhibits. Eleven of the sims are temporary ones, Burning Man - Deep Hole being the permanent one.

from Gemma Cleanslate

There's been some confusion over the schedule due to a data leak, but one can pick up details at information centers, such as the one at Burning Man-Deep Hole (116/172/25).

Two events that are sure to happen are the Burning of the Man on Saturday October 26 and the Temple Burn on October 27. The temporary sims will be up for a few days after the official close, so some exhibits can be seen afterwards. But there's no guarantee on how many artists will keep theirs up after the close.

In the meantime, enjoy the art and music.

Burn2 Summer Burn, "Whimsy"

This weekend from Friday to Sunday, the Burn2 Summer Burn event took place. Called "Whimsy," it had a whimsical tone with many of the builds intending to be on the amusing side. It took place at Burning Man - Deep Hole.

But not all of it was whimsical. When I finally had a chance to send an alt over, there was a tribute to a late friend, "Next song is Take Five, a cover of it by King Tubby... I play it in honour of Ktadhn, who used to play Take Five by the Dave Brubeck Quartet for every single Lamplighter procession (smile) As soon as the song would start, he would IM me and say, 'A little jazz for you' We remember you, KT!!!"

Gemma should have more on Whimsy soon,

Second Life Rings In 2024

Sunday December 31 was New Year's Eve. In real-life, there were parties large and small around the world. And here in Second Life, there were a number. At Burning Man Deep Hole, the Burners and friends threw a party.

Some people were in paper airplanes, for some reason. Good for traveling from one party to the next maybe.

Virtual Ability had a small party, hosted by Gentle Heron.

Complete with a view of Times Square, the scene of America's largest New Year's celebration.

Bellisseria Fairgrounds had a large event with many people.

Some were wearing "DeadMaus" hats. What the reason was, no one spoke a thing while I was there.

Goodbye 2023, and hello 2024. It'll be a year full of events. And the Newser will cover a number of them.

Happy New Year

Burn2 Events Conclude, Exhibits Still Up (For Now)

This weekend, the Burn2 art and music festival in Second Life came to it's climax with the Burning of The Man and the Temple Burn. Several minutes after 12 Noon on Saturday October 14, "The Man" went ablaze in front of a crowd of onlookers, both Burners and others dropping by.

The fire started not at the base, but at the effigy's feet. The result was for a couple minutes it was just it's legs on fire, one onlooker giggling, "Looks like he has smoke bloomers on!" But the virtual flames went higher, someone commenting they were making a face over the wicker cage of a head.

After about half an hour, it was over, and people were invited to dance on the still-glowing embers. There would be a repeat at 6PM that night.

Sunday October 15 had the Temple Burn, once again taking place in front of an audience at 12 Noon SL time. Before it's burning, the censer inside read the messages of those who sent them as they burned, "Yes, we are imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid, but that doesn’t change the truth that we are also brave and worthy of love and belonging. " "To my family, near, far, and no longer with us on Earth... no matter where you are know you are loved and treasured, even when we can't see, hear, or feel each other, we are all still together now, until we see each other again, & long long after." "Always believe in yourself." "Dad. You were a great dad. Thanks for watching down on all of us. I hope to see you someday."

Some expressed mixed feelings at such a well-designed build going down, "All those beautiful birds burning (sigh)." But the people enjoyed it. It was also notable some of the songs were appropriate, "Rise Like a Phoenix."

The last official events took place following the Temple Burn repeat at 6PM, ending at Midnight. But this isn't truly the end of "Animalia." The exhibits will be up for a few more days, and there should be a few scattered impromptu music events. And word has it the Burn ONe group will be launching it's Renegade Burn soon.

"Welcome Home."

Burn With Us!
BURN2 is an extension of the Burning Man culture and community into the world of Second Life. It is an official Burning Man Regional, the only virtual world Regional out of more than 100 Regional groups worldwide, and the only Regional to burn the Man! This unique virtual Regional spreads the culture and 10 Principles of Burning Man year-round in the world of Second Life hosting several official and Burner organised events each year, culminating in an annual major celebration of community, art and fire in October – a virtual echo of Black Rock City.

As always, we look forward to welcoming home Burners from all over the world ( Are you new to SL/Burn2? How to Come to BURN2 ). You’ll enter the playa through the Gate, where friendly Greeters will welcome you, walk on processions with the Lamplighters; visit the Rangers, and check out our effigies. Wander, explore, climb, interact. Visit Center Camp and the art and sound camps, where DJs and musicians bring music to soothe, inspire, excite and incite to dance. Wander through and explore the art camps, where artists, storytellers and others will have art, stories and engaging things to share. Pause at the Temple to meditate.

You will be surrounded by art, music, fire and welcoming Burners! See the (continuously updated) BURN2 Calendar at https://www.burn2.org/event-calendar/ for the event’s schedule.

Burn2 ANIMALIA: October 6-15th, 2023
As is our tradition, our event’s theme is the same as Burning Man’s, which is ANIMALIA, an exploration of the animal worlds both real and imagined, and humanity’s place in it.

Every year, artists and creatives are invited to get their plots to create homes and art installations in our virtual temporary city. For 2023, we will have a total of 12 regions of our virtual playa - plenty of space for seasoned and new Burners to build their art, theme camps, and even camp villages. Collect some friends, create a HUBS cluster or a village, and join together to make your scene on BURN2’s virtual playa in 2023! Yes - you are encouraged to group build and make a great camp, a HUBS cluster or village, a sound camp, or art installation come alive.

We’ll help Burners bring their 3D builds into Second Life, encourage participants to decompress on our Playa, and there will be some supplies that you can use to decorate and make your place your own. Take your virtual theme camp to another level by creating events or gatherings in your space - you will be able to post your activities on our website in the soon-to-be-populated WHO::WHAT::WHERE Guide. We have a large Burner community at BURN2 eager to burn with you and we are excited to see what you will bring out to the virtual Playa and share with us! Check out more at www.burn2.org. Welcome Home!

Something New at Burn2…
At Burning Man, when you wander through the area, you’ll see all kinds of camps. Some gift food, others drink, and still others places to chill. Some invite fellow Burners to come in and visit, experience and interact with art and with each other. This has been the case for many years.

You’ll also find there are sound camps of different sizes in various places. Groups of people come together to construct their stages, play their tunes, dance, perform, read poetry, tell stories, and all manner of music to tickle your eardrums. In an effort to further echo Black Rock City we will not have a Main Stage or BOB Stage at our Octoburn event - although Center Camp will still host a small stage as has been the case in the past. We encourage the musically inclined and the prim slingers and mesh makers to come together and create shared stages in clusters of camps, much like the Burners at Burning Man. Sharing resources in similar, virtual, ways echoes Burning Man’s HUBS (Humans United for Better Sustainability) initiative.

B2TV’s roaming camera crew will live stream in various places, showing performances and awesome art all around the playa! If you can't log in, you can stay connected to the event through B2TV's Live Video Webcast to Mixcloud, which will be featured on the front page of Burn2’s website..Every participant puts into practice many of the 10 Principles in being a part of the event, most especially Communal Effort. We’ve had a number of sound camps in the past and we’re happy to see you come back each year! Let’s see some MOAR sound camps of all sizes! MOAR art camps! MOAR ART of all kinds!

Yes! The Plot Sale!
Our annual Octoburn plot sale is underway and will be open through Sunday, October 1st. Note that the build period closes at 11pm on Tuesday the 3rd of October. Burn2’s plot sale is equivalent to buying a ticket to camp at BRC. This helps to defray the cost of renting the extra regions we use in Second Life®. Where to go to get your plot? The plot sale kiosks are in a grotto in Burn2’s own virtual Gerlach. Check them out here: Burn2 Plot

Sale Landing Point.
So Now…What to Do? Get Your Plot Today!
First, get your plot! Decide how big a plot and what you want to do on your plot - art, music, join a sound or art village, or just have a camp. Then get your ticket for your plot! And while you wait for the regions to arrive, plan your build, form a village with other friends who get their own plots, get your ideas going so you’ll be ready when you get your placement in early September.

More Opportunities to Participate - Coming Soon

There will be more opportunities to participate in Burn2’s Octoburn event. Watch the main ANIMALIA
page as more information becomes available.

Gift Your Talents in Tunes and Dance Burn2 will have one stage for performers: Center Camp, ideal for more relaxed and intimate shows. Visit our website for more information about the event and how you can join the event as a DJ, live mixer, live musician or singer at Center Camp or one of the many independent sound camps. The Center Camp bookings are first come, first served.

Did you know… that plot owners can create their own stages and host performers if they wish? YES, they can! - you can do your thing inside your sound camp space - and invite others to join you, of course. Want to read, interview someone, have poetry readings? You can do that with a live stream or in local voice chat. You’ll be able to give us some information via the plot owner questionnaire after you get your plot and we’ll assist you with  good placement - and we’ll be helping to connect sound camps with performers!

Create an Art Display
Big art sounds intimidating? We are inviting Burners to contribute smaller scale art that will be displayed in various places at ANIMALIA. Put on your art beret, fire up the sketchbook or mesh build apps, sling some prims and add your bit of creativity to this event. The ANIMALIA Invited Artists committee is now accepting applications from 2D and 3D artists! Be sure to read the Invited Artists Guidelines before applying.

Plot Lottery
The application for the plot lottery (aka Plottery) will also be opening soon. These plots will be 512 square meters, with 156 LI max and height limit at 16m, in various locations around the expanded playa. They are intended for those who cannot afford the cost of a plot but want to have a spot on the playa to call home, create art, have some great fun.The Plottery application is now open!

And, last but not least…there will be Burns! You can come and watch the burns! The Man WILL Burn on Saturday, 14th October (noon and 6pm SLT), then the Temple will burn on Sunday the 15th (noon and 6pm SLT). Be sure to visit the beautiful Temple, and leave a message or two in the Censer. Those messages will be publicly read out before the Temple burns. We hope you find that the virtual Temple is a sacred space that can evoke a similar experience to what you would encounter at the Temple on a physically dusty Playa.

Tell Your Friends! Come and Participate!

We look forward to welcoming Home Burners and our community when the event opens on the 6th of October!

Then, you can walk through the gate, and if you are a virgin Burner, ring the bell! Follow the Lamplighters on their twice-daily processions; visit the Rangers, view the Man and meditate in the Temple. Dress your avatar in your Playa finest. Visit the many performance and art camps with music to soothe,  inspire, excite and incite to dance with your avatar. Dance along with your avatar in the comfort of your own home (nobody has to know!).

You will be surrounded by art, music, fire and welcoming Burners!

Want to stay informed through group notices? Join the BurningMan 2.0 group in Second Life. Log in, do a search on groups or pull up the profile of any BURN2 staff member, open the group properties, and click the Join button.

As with most large groups, there are inevitably some disputes. But this year there has been trouble behind the scenes with people leaving. Miss Suzanne Super Sweet (SuperSuz Resident) recently got with the Newser and offered an explanation of what's been going on.

Scenes From Easter

The weekend from Friday April 15 to Sunday April 17 was a busy one in Second Life. The Bellissarians were celebrating their anniversary at their Fairgrounds. But that wasn't all. It was also Easter Weekend, so there were a number of Easter Events. While yours truly has been extra busy in real life, I was able to get a few pictures.

A Busy Weekend

Quite a bit happened this weekend. The Winter Burn took place (picture above). So did the last events of the Bellisserian Bureau of Bureaucracy's Second Anniversary celebration. There was also the monthly benefit concert at Veterans Isle for Homes For Our Troops. And more.

More on these stories later.
