The SL23B Birthday Ends (For Most)

Sunday July 19 was the last day of the SL23B, the Second Life Birthday. And the sims got a bit more active with people enjoying the sims one last time, at least most of us. One spot of activity was Bay City's exhibit.

They were gathered in some movie set seats at one point, but before the red clouds faded, they leaped into the pool for a conga line dance. Marianne commented it was a good thing the water wasn't much deeper, otherwise she'd have trouble breathing.

At the Belessarian Bureau of Bureaucracy's exhibit, they were watching a movie.

And there was a party at the Seawall Cruising Club.

Unfortunately, I couldn't stay the whole evening. But no doubt the parties went on to Midnight and beyond. For exhibitors and the Moles, they have a few days to go about the sims to see what they missed or check some one more time. But for the rest of us, it's over, with only the screenshots and the memories.

It was a great Second Life Twenty-Third Birthday.

Drama Libre

In her latest story, reporter Netera Landar checked out the Drama Libre club. Having been around for almost 20 years and this September will have hosted it's 1000th party, what sets this venue apart is it has a different set for each one. Netera talked to Xerxes Sismondi, a co-founder of the club how it came to be, and some of what's happened over time.

New Year's Eve 2025

Many people in Second Life, perhaps most, love a good party. And New Years Eve had a number. Some places had a special twist on regularly scheduled happenings, and others were open just for this special night. Yours truly dropped by a few from Wooburn, to Caledon, to Bay City, and his own home community the Sunweavers as they bade 2025 good bye, and hello to 2026.

See the pictures in Events.

Scenes From Christmas Eve With the Sunweavers

Yours truly has been busy getting over a cold and working in RL, as well as finishing a longer article that will be up tomorrow, so I'm a little late in posting a few pictures from Christmas Eve.

Wednesday December 24 from 4-6 was the Christmas party at Club Zero Gravity. DJ Snowbuns came out of her holiday hiatus to play tunes for the two hour set.

At 6 PM came the Cutlass Christmas Party, and there was a treat: physics balloons. Touching the rezzer would release a bunch over the dance floor.

Shockwave would play the tunes for this event, and he played some interesting ones.

It was good music with good friends and good chatter.

The party would last a bit beyond 8PM, as not everyone here was with family in real-life.

Following the Christmas parties, I would drop by Calas Galahon Park for a bit with a friend.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

A Busy Weekend

Quite a lot was happening this weekend. One event was the annual Burn2 art and music festival, Second Life's reflection of the real-life Burning Man event. It's taking place in a dozen sims around Burning Man - Deep Hole.

At the Bellisseria Fairgrounds, there was the "Hammieween" event, hosted by the Bellissarian hamsters, aka the "Bell Hammies."

Next to the American Cancer Society sim, I Pink I Can came to a close. But Outshop Cancer is still going on. Besides the shopping, there are occasional music events.

More on these, and other, happenings later.

Partying On At Scorn And Cutlass

Club Scorn may be just a single club, but it has a number of venues on the sim and every Saturday a different one gets used. On Saturday the 20th, a new city ruins venue was revealed for the club's "Post Apocalypse" Night.

People showed up as survivors, mutants, robots, and a zombie, "What does a vegetarian zombie say? Graaaaaiiiinnnnssss ..." The people playing the music were DJ Aldi, DJ Poison, DJ Charlee, DJ Squeaks, and DJ Gwen. Several contests were held with a number of winners.

Scorn is at Elysium Tartarus, the locations of the active venue varies, depending on which one is used.

Cutlass remains one venue (though occasionally the underwater club is powered up for use). On July 24, the theme was "Crazy Stuff."

DJ Jenni played the tunes as people showed up as a watermellon, a jellyfish, an Intermet meme, community leader Rita Mariner in a straitjacket, and more.

Cutlass is at Sunweaver Bay (114/117/757).

Scenes From The Fairelands

Quite a bit has been happening in the Fairelands. At the party ship Fairchylde, there were a number of people DJing. This included Fuzzball Ortega of the Steelhead Salmons, whom is most noted at the Relay for his huge hairpiece, usually known as "The Hair." But while DJing this time, he was without it, "We are NOT crashing Fantasy Faire with The Hair."

The Fairchyle wasn't the only place for music events. In "The Golden Hour," there was a viking-themed DJ event, with Obic Malaprop playing.

At one point, Oblic commented, "Alright if you all don't start hitting that kiosk I may have to resort to terrible puns." The response was immediate, "NO PUNS!" "Nuuuuh!!!! Not puns!!!! Feed the kiosk, Quick!" "No not the puns! Haha!" Oblic grinned, "And I so wanted to tell the one about the viking cannibal ....he had a Swede-tooth." Ten minutes later, "Whelp time for a pun... Did you hear about the viking who hit his thumb with a hammer and bit his tongue? ......it was Thor." The audience reacted, "Oh dear (laughter)" "Ouch!" "Ba'doom'tish!" "(cries)"

I also dropped by a Jail and Bail featuring the people behind the Teegle horses, "We don't really understand the charges against us, but here we are. Something about customs regulations and an accusation of bribery? You've got to help us get out of this mess! "

Some horses were put up for auction. A few went for over 50,000 Linden dollars.

The Children of Stories Roleplay is also continuing, fuller details to come.

That's all on the Faire for now, stay tune for more.

Update: The FF Quest is now live, at least part one is. Details to come.

Second Life Rings In 2024

Sunday December 31 was New Year's Eve. In real-life, there were parties large and small around the world. And here in Second Life, there were a number. At Burning Man Deep Hole, the Burners and friends threw a party.

Some people were in paper airplanes, for some reason. Good for traveling from one party to the next maybe.

Virtual Ability had a small party, hosted by Gentle Heron.

Complete with a view of Times Square, the scene of America's largest New Year's celebration.

Bellisseria Fairgrounds had a large event with many people.

Some were wearing "DeadMaus" hats. What the reason was, no one spoke a thing while I was there.

Goodbye 2023, and hello 2024. It'll be a year full of events. And the Newser will cover a number of them.

Happy New Year

Halloween Goings On

It's getting close to the end of October, and Halloween season is in full swing. There's been various Halloween events and parties.

At the Premier Business Center at Friday October 27, a surprise rezzday party turned into a Halloween bash. The event had almost fifty people.

There have been numerous smaller Halloween parties, such as the one at Club Scorn on Saturday the 28th, with DJ Charlee, DJ Mallit and DJ Gwen.

Bellisseria Fairgrounds has been the scene of "Hammiween" and its parties, such as one on Sunday the 29th.

There's also various Halloween events going on. There's the Bellisseria Trick or Treat. Furry Fashion is having a Halloween Hunt.

There's "Haunted Nawlins Howloween." There's a "Crypt Crawl" going on as well.

You'll find plenty of other spook-tacular places in the Destinations Guide too.

However you spend your Halloween season, make it a good one.

More St. Patrick's Shenanigans And An Art Exhibit

St. Patrick's Day has plenty of good clean fun, but there's always some shenanigans going on. So Gemma Cleanslate was on the scene to see a few. From the Relay for Life to Bellisseria, there were green outfits to wear, green drinks to down, and general funnery. She also went to an art exhibit, "The Magical Forest."

The Deep Woods

Gemma was recently at the latest of "The Spark Project." Their latest project was titled, "The Deep Woods" Raven Banrion Falconer and her staff have created displays based on fantasy and fairy tales of old, as well as settings for parties. But the exhibit won't last long as it won't be long before the parties, and the exhibits, will end.

Parties in Remembrance At The BBBC, Happy Vixen

Yesterday, Sunday September 11, the Bouncing Bunny Beach Club in SunWater Three reopened after being closed for over a month. The party was from 3 to 5 PM SL time. As it was Patriot Day, the theme was "Red, White, and Blue" in honor of the fallen of the 9/11 attacks.

DJ Snowbuns/Snowy AngelBun Lefavre (Skylark Lefavre) was the DJ for the party. The winner was Ginger (Dusk Griswold).

Following the BBBC, the Happy Vixen had a "Royal Ball" in honor of Queen Elizabeth, who passed away a few days ago. People were encouraged to dress elegantly. In the case of someone who had to wear a tiny avatar, he just put on a top hat. Hostess Ⓐиα βⓔαm 尺ⓐωr  (Analilana Buccaneer) did the decorations for the party, giving the place a quite appropriate look.

DJ Snowbuns played the music for the event. The winner was Valkyrie Ice (Valkyrie McGill).

The BBBC is at SunWaterThree (75/56/25), and has parties once a week on Sunday from 3-5. The Happy Vixen is at Purrfection Estates (236, 219, 24) and has several events a week.
