Cartoon of The Day: Porcupine Artist

Taken at Raglan Shire. And yes, a porcupine artist would easily do that.

Cartoon of The Day: Short Stories

Taken at Club Zero Gravity. That's me in my Dinkie fox reporter avie. And well, there are days between working overtime, real-life errands, and trying to make sense of real-life news that there's very little time to write anything. So sometimes it's time for a "short" story.

Alex Radikal of Tiny Bit Radikal

With Second Life having plenty of people in human and furry avatars, it's easy for other types to get overlooked. There are merfolk, there are taurs, and then there's the smaller avatars, the tinies. But if you get a tiny avatar, where are you going to get the clothes for it? Newser reporter Netera Landar had a few words with Alex Radikal, who creates and sells outfits for the small avies. She was able to explain what went into making them, and more.

Cartoon of the Day: Why Did She Faint?

Taken at the Happy Vixen. I can think of a few reasons the girl fainted, but with the dinkie avatar nearby, one possibility came to mind.

Cartoon Of The Day: Kitty Babysitter

Taken at the Fantasy Faire. The snow leopard is Theo, the companion in this year's Fairelands Quest. One fun thing about the quest is avatars regular size, somewhat above average, and small can do them. But while they had tinies in mind as possible heroes, I don't think they thought about not just a tiny but a tiny that was another gray kitty.

Cartoon of The Day

Taken at Bellisseria for Life. Derrick Linden's appearance was that of a tiny dragon. People usually think of them as big (and often ferocious). So what would people think of one small and cute. I thought of one possibility.

"Wootstock" In Raglan Shire

This weekend, the "Wootstock" concert took place in Raglan Shire. This tribute to Woodstock lasted from Friday July 21, starting off at 1PM SL time, and lasted until sometime after 8PM Sunday July 23.

There were a number of DJs, notably on Friday, but the majority of the music was by live performers. While many of them were local talent like Caleb Kit and bFlat Unplugged (above) , there were plenty of singers from outside the community, such as Jaycatt Nico and Frogg Marlowe. One group of performers, Keeba Tammas &The Tiny Maniacs, had people from both in and out of the community.

Dropping by Saturday, I missed Keeba and the Maniacs, but did see a few others. Among them, singer Maximillion Kleene. Usually in a human avatar, he was in a "Greenies" avatar, one of the aliens in the classic giant room sim in Second Life's earlier days.

It was a fun, lighthearted event that Raglan Shire is noted for delivering. Some in the audience added to the funnery of the occasion. There was also a food stand that had it's own share of grins.

Minnirainbow of Raglan Shire Has Died

The following was posted by Pieni Resident in the Raglan Shire group:

I am deeply sorry to give you such terrible news. Our friend Minie, in real life: Jackie, has passed. She died in her sleep, holding the hand of a friend. She had been having serious health issues all her life, and lately they had been increasing in difficulty. She got a massive infection from a wound they operated on, but could not fix in time. She was a friend and family to so many of us.

If any of you wish to send something in real life, let me know, and I will give the address. She lived in a nursing home and did not have immediate family, though. So it will go to her friends and caretaker staff. I will send a separate note inworld and on Facebook, when I know what to do about her Second Life memorial. She had been preparing me for sad news for a while now, so I will do my very best to respect her wishes in all possible ways.

She was my best friend and my family in real life had accepted her as our own. I will be grieving for quite a while, and I hope I can be there for you all in your grief, but please understand, that I may not be at my best right now. Jackie kept telling me I wasn't allowed to howl in holes after her. I will respect her wishes to be silly and cussy and hilariously weird. But also I insist her ghost not tickle me for crying like a tornado for a long time.

Her full Second Life name was Pikku GlitterFarts MorgenMuffel (Minnirainbow), and Jackie Hill in real-life. Those wishing to make a show of financial support, it's been suggested they donate to Spina Bifida month, which she had: https://www.spinabifidaassociation.org/blog/10-ways-to-celebrate-spina-bifida-awareness-month-in-2022/

There will be a memorial party for her on Sunday November 6 at Morning Shire at 12 Noon

Wee Wonders Tiny Freebie Store

Being a tiny has it's share of challenges in Second Life. Among them being that most things were made for avatars larger than yours. But there's a place that has all sorts of things for tinies: Wee Wonders. Owned by Veloce Bertone and located in the Didean sim, there's all sorts of things for smaller folk from vehicles to furniture to animations. And the price, they're free!

Cartoon of the Day

Taken at the Blake Sea at a Safe Waters Foundation meeting. Among the mermaids and mermen there was this tiny, wearing a large hat. So it didn't take long to come up with the pun.

Weekly Fishing Contest at Tiny Oasis in Sunweaver Estates

While the Sunweaver lands are best known to being home to a (mostly) furry community, there is one spot in the southwest corner of Sunweaver Space that's more tiny oriented: the Tiny Oasis. Owned by Skye Tracer, the place has two events a week. One is the Tuesday night dance. The other is a fishing contest every Wednesday. The event is hosted by Kitty Huang (SuperGirl1970 Carver).

With a few known regulars from Raglan Shire, the fishing can be whimsical, with various tiny-themed gestures played throughout the event. It's done using 7Seas equipment and contest board, with the current leaders of the event shown for all to see. There's at least two rounds per event. The contests have been going on for over a year, with Kitty only unable to run it twice.

I have yet to sit in on a contest, though have seen it from a distance. By the time I get there, it's pretty much wrapped up, with the fishers doing the tiny riverdance. By some coincidence, the radio stream was playing, "So Long And Thanks For All The Fish."

"Ni ni all. See ya next Wed."

Picture of the Day: Tiny Pandataur

From the Jimx/Order of Centaurs Discord page, an image of Rayven Firebrand as a tiny panda-taur, by Emily Williams. It got quite a few comments over the rest of the day.

Lomgren Smalls, Second Life's Smallest Avatar, Back Inworld

Last week, the residents of the Sunweaver community had one of their noted members return after a long hiatus: Lomgren Smalls. For more recent residents, Lomgren started getting attention in 2007 for his six-inch high avatar. That was the smallest anyone had made that could still move about more or less normally, and it is believed to still be the smallest.

His being a member of the Sunweaver community helped give it a reputation for having talented members. Besides is avatar, he would work on other projects, such as some exhibits for the Passionate Redheads Relay for Life team. In a 2009 interview, he confirmed that his tiny avatar had helped him get a job in real life when the interviewers saw what he could do.

Since 2016, Lomgren had been on break from Second Life for personal reasons. In finally ended on Tuesday June 22. Appearing at the Happy Vixen, and Club Cutlass the following day, he was greeted by old friends and curious newer members of the community alike, "It's good to be back." Lomgren was curious to hear what had been going on in Second Life for the past few years. Bento and animesh in particular interested him. Seeing an animesh bot dancing on it's own, he commented, "I have some catching up to do."

It should be interesting to see what the Sunweaver's smallest resident comes up with.

Welcome back to Second Life and the Sunnies, Lomgren.

RFL Team Sunbeamers Hit Platinum At Start

The Relay season is on! The Kickoff was on Saturday (more on that later), and among the teams is the Sunbeamers. The team of the Sunweaver community, the "beamers have been a top-performing team, last year making the top ten teams in terms of Lindens raised. And this season, they hit the ground running. As the team has been raising money since the end of last season, they started out at 255,050 Linden dollars in their kiosks. And so, right off the bat, the Sunbeamers were at Platinum fundraising level. And as a picture provided to the Newser showed, started out in the lead.

As the weekend went on, Grove Country Club Estates also reached Platinum and took the lead. A look at team totals shows most teams are still at Bronze level or below. This includes some yearly heavy-hitters, such as the Relay Rockers and Team ACTS. But the number of teams in Silver and beyond will quickly grow as the teams hold various events. Those holding events include the Sunbeamers with their first Moon Dance later this week.

Those wishing to donate to the Sunbeamers can use the kiosk at Club Cutlass at Sunweaver Bay (114/117/757).

And for yours truly, the season started having to own up on a certain promise right away. Five years ago, I challenged the team that if they ever reached Platinum Level fundraising, I'd go pony for a week. Since then, I've gone about in an odd look for a week when it happened. For a time, it was one I never went about in public before, the most remembered of these being the "Rita clone." But as time has gone on, I've been running low on options I've never done before, such as going pink and pantsless. So this year, I'll be a tiny Dinkie fox for a week.

The Dinkie Fox isn't sold as is, but is a mod of the Dinkie cat made by Missy (terris Graves). As I haven't installed this kind of mod before, I needed a little help from Missy herself. But as you can see, the job was done. And unlike my other tiny fox, this one can wear a jacket and pants. As before, my "out" is when obviously on Newser duty such as doing interviews. And finally on Saturday the 27th, I'll be back at my usual height.

Go Sunbeamers! Go Relay!
