SL Renaissance Festival Concludes, I Pink I Can Continues

This weekend was the conclusion of the Renaissance Festival in Second Life. Among the events in the sims south of American Cancer Society was at 1PM Saturday when Jaycatt and Frogg performed at the Minstrel Stage. At the event, Jaycatt had a limited edition pet dragon on his shoulder, which people could get for a small donation.

Elsewhere at the Ren Fest, there were tournaments. I would witness a round of jousting. It was close, ending 5 to 4.

And of course there was the shopping, at numerous stores.

While the Ren Fest may be ending, "I Pink I Can" is still going on, in the sims north of American Cancer Society. On Sunday at 1PM was a stage play, "A Child’s Journey Through Cancer: The Musical." It would show "the story of a child’s journey through cancer told in music and dance. It takes us through the fear, joy and hope experienced in a cancer journey." It was done and directed by Patty Flow of "Roos With A Dream," with some of her teammates taking part, as well as other Relayers.

Both the Ren Fest and I Pink I Can raise money for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

More on I Pink I Can later. The event goes on to Sunday October 20.

"Effinjay" At The Rose Theater

On Sunday, there was a live music performance at the Rose Theater in the Angel Manor sim. Frogg Marlowe and Jaycatt Nico, also known as "Effinjay" sang there for an hour from 1 to 2 PM

Effinjay News: Good afternoon everyone, we've got a 1pm show today at the Rose Theater!

Yours truly got there in time to hear a few songs, Jaycatt on the piano and Frogg with his guitar, and managed to get a few pictures. But for some reason Frogg wouldn't show up so much as a nametag until after the event ended.

Jaycatt and Frogg have been performing in Second Life for over 18 years, and continue to appear at various venues across the grid.

"Wootstock" In Raglan Shire

This weekend, the "Wootstock" concert took place in Raglan Shire. This tribute to Woodstock lasted from Friday July 21, starting off at 1PM SL time, and lasted until sometime after 8PM Sunday July 23.

There were a number of DJs, notably on Friday, but the majority of the music was by live performers. While many of them were local talent like Caleb Kit and bFlat Unplugged (above) , there were plenty of singers from outside the community, such as Jaycatt Nico and Frogg Marlowe. One group of performers, Keeba Tammas &The Tiny Maniacs, had people from both in and out of the community.

Dropping by Saturday, I missed Keeba and the Maniacs, but did see a few others. Among them, singer Maximillion Kleene. Usually in a human avatar, he was in a "Greenies" avatar, one of the aliens in the classic giant room sim in Second Life's earlier days.

It was a fun, lighthearted event that Raglan Shire is noted for delivering. Some in the audience added to the funnery of the occasion. There was also a food stand that had it's own share of grins.

Jaycatt and Frogg at The Shelter

At 6PM on Friday August 20, "The Shelter" was the scene of a music event by noted live musicians Jaycatt Nico and Frogg Marlowe. Frogg, who used to appear as an anthro amphibian, was now human, though still shoeless. Jaycatt was still the cat behind the piano. They played songs such as "Apateure Science," while cake and other goodies were available nearby.

The Shelter, located at at Isabel (44/244/79), was a noted hangout for newcomers from 2004 to August 2020 when it's leadership announced they could no longer continue running it.  After that, it was turned over to Linden Lab.

Scenes From The SL16B

Quite a lot has been going on at the SL16B. Numerous musicians have been playing, such as Jaycatt and Frogg at the Festival Stage on Sunday June 23. There's a youtube of their performance available (link).

But there were other performers at other stages, such as on Monday June 24, when DJ Lia (Female Winslet) played her music at the Spinmasters Stage.

There were plenty of exhibits to see, such as "Torgon Woodget's Fun Fair Time," with it's roller coaster, made to look like a birthday cake.
https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SL16B%20Enchant/82/93/24/

Besides the resident and group made exhibits, there were examples of upcoming Linden Home varieties. At SL16B Spellbound, there were some campers and trailers up for display.

There's also the "Meet The Lindens" events, such as when Patch Linden appeared on Monday May 24 (video link).

Patch Linden had much to say. Among which, he stated that there would be no new games by Linden Lab soon as the Lindens and Moles had been concentrating on getting the new Linden Homes out, as well as organizing the SL16B. Of the new continent Belliseria, he stated there would soon be railroads and a ferry there, as well as commercial areas. Of the rainbow Magellan statue, he stated that was part of a new "Fairgrounds" area, much like the one at Bay City's North Channel.

More to come on the Second Life Birthday

Jaycatt and Frogg at Key West

Last week, I dropped by a performance in Key West by Jaycatt and Frogg. After over a decade, the musical duo who make numerous live performances in Second Life are still going at it, Frogg on his guitar, and Jaycatt behind the piano.

The one big change is that it looks like Frogg has put aside the old amphibian avatar he used to have. Jaycatt is still feline, though. Besides Key West, they perform at other places, such as Luskwood.

Luskwood and Trotsdale's Anniversary Celebrations

Last Saturday, October 21, two communities celebrated their anniversaries. One was Luskwood, the best known furry area, and probably the oldest community of any kind still around in Second Life. The other was Trotsdale, the most well known pony region. These two groups of people, some whom have a number of friends with the other, combined their anniversary events, their fourteenth and sixth respectively, into one single day with over eight hours of music. The Newser was there to report the happening.

Read the story in Events.

Luskwood 14th Anniversary

Luskwood, considered Second Life's best known furry community and one of it's oldest, is having it's anniversary celebration, the LW14B, tomorrow, Saturday October 21. The event, which goes alongside it's sister community Trotsdale's anniversary, looks like it has a conspiracy/secrecy theme, if one goes by it's inworld group announcement and blog post.

SECRET//SCI-TK//COMINT//REL TO SL
THIS IS A FALSE FLAG OPERATION.

A vast coverup will begin at 4pm on October 21, Saturday.
Luskwood's 14th year coincides with Trotsdale's 6th.

Bring enough groceries, some peanut butter, to last a couple of days

The schedule, and event monkiers of the performers, was listed as

4-5PM - Shannon O'Herlihy - "Agent 0014" (in the RetroSkunk Cafe)
5-6PM - Keeba Tammas - "Subject 49" (in the Amphitheatre)
6-7PM - Frogg and Jaycatt - "Specimens E30/ E92" (in the Amphitheatre)
7PM-???? - Haley Maruti - "RESTRICTED AREA"

"Happy Birthday Second Life!" SL14B Celebrations End

Sunday June 25 was the last day of official events at the Second Life Fourteenth Birthday celebrations. And there were a number of performances at the stages.

The energetic DJ Tantari Kim, who performs every Tuesday night at the Happy Vixen, made an appearance at the DJ stage.

Among those in the audience were Golan Eilde and Catboy Qunhua (pictured).

Later on, I went to "Stage Left" where Jaycatt and Frogg were performing.

While Frogg Marlowe rezzed, my viewer refused to render more than small parts of Jaycatt Nico during the performance.

I had to wait until after the show for a good picture of the pianist.

Xiola Linden and April Linden were also there. Of Xiola's shirt, does "We are the weirdos, Mister" refer to Linden Lab?

As Midnight neared, people gathered at the Cake Stage. The last DJ there was Laz Dressler

Among those there was Cake Stage builder Mikati Slade.

"This is the Birthday!"

"That's why you're in a cake..."

As Midnight neared, Laz ended her set with "Goodbye To You." "Thank you all so much for staying with me tonight," she told the crowd, "Good night everybody. Have a blessed Second Life."

In previous years, Midnight would mean the end. But I noticed a gathering at Stage Left, and going over, I saw fireworks.

Among those there was Walton F. Wainwright (Faust Steamer), the builder of Stage Left.

Seeing another gathering in front of the Cake Stage, I went over, and there were a few people, including Warp Linden and Mikati enjoying one more event, a few fireworks. Some spelled some words.

"Happy 14th Birthday Second Life. See you next year."

And so, the official events for "The Birthday" are done. But that does not mean the end of the SL14B just yet. The sims will remain up for several more days, and most exhibitors leave their builds up, allowing those who couldn't attend earlier due to real life events or older computers to see them. One unofficial event that's become a tradition, the "Cake Explosion" has been given a date: Sunday July 2 at 4PM SL time. But on Monday July 3, the sad part begins with "the breakdown." And on July 6 the sims go offline, leaving nothing but memories, recordings, and articles such as this one.

Veterans Isle Fundraiser on Easter Raises Over 200,000 Lindens, Draws Record Crowd

On Easter Sunday March 27, Veterans Isle held it's monthly benefit concert for the "Homes For Our Troops" charity. From 5PM SL time to a little after 9PM (Midnight EST), performers played music in front of the audience. The event was organized by Frets Nirvana, one of the musicians.

Tonight March 27 we are conducting our monthly benefit for Homes for our Troops …with a great lineup for your Easter Sunday! Celebrate your Easter Sunday evening by supporting those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. And to top it off we have a one time special performance by Tristyn Homewood! Come on out and help support those who give us our freedom.

Veronica Wesler was the first on stage from 5 to 6PM SL time. At 6PM, on stage were the popular Frogg Marlowe and Jaycatt Nico, who were performing at the benefit for the first time. From 7 to 8 PM, Frets himself performed for the crowd. Lastly at 8PM, Tristyn Homewood and his band rounded out the event.

Many dozens of avatars attended the event, with Jaycatt and Frogg attracting a group of Tinies from Raglan while they played. At one point while Trystyn was playing, sixty-four residents were at the event, the largest crowd that yours truly had seen. About half of the money raised that night would come in the last hour. There were also a few antics in the crowd such as one girl in a "Deadpool" outfit and someone in the audience joking, "I emptied my lingerie, shoe and hair fund the other day..  puppy's gonna be running about with a bare puppy butt till May 1." At the end, Trystyn closed out the event with "Glory Hallelujah," and the amount raised climbed past 200,000, "Oh wow! WOW!" A total of 200,830 had been raised.

Scenes From the RFL Christmas Expo

It's been a busy week for the Newser crew, especially for Gemma Cleanslate who volunteered to help out at one of the biggest events in Second Life: The Relay for Life Christmas Expo. But yours truly was able to drop by to get a few pictures.

One of the events there was a performance on the Eylsium stage, high above the Frozen sim, on Sunday December 6. The cupcake-shaped seats were close to filled as a number of staff danced around on stage.

Some of the scenes were very well done. The glowing lines on this picture were left by the sparkles on the girl's hands.

Also a big draw: The DJ stage. A number of musicians have been performing there.

Among those who played on Sunday were the noted Jaycatt and Frogg. Their act differed from usual as Frogg Marlowe's normal amphibian avatar was gone and looked more like his real-life self. But his music was the same crowd-drawing and applause-getting as before. Jaycatt Nico was his usual furred self as he played the piano.

The singers would play throughout the week. On Thursday, Ichie Kamachi, whom the Newser recently interviewed, graced the crowd with her velvet voice. With Santa not far away, she had to save her more mischievous songs for other venues.

The Christmas Expo continues, so drop on by the Expo sims, south of the American Cancer Society sim, and enjoy the music and shopping. You might even run into a certain white-bearded fellow in a red suit.
