Press Release: Virtual Ability Thanks Linden Lab, Announcing: Wheelchair Design Contest

On behalf of the Virtual Ability community, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to Linden Lab for their generous L$250,000 donation announced at the recent SL23B Golden Ticket Giveaway event.

Since 2007, Virtual Ability® has been a peer support community helping people with a wide range of disabilities thrive in Second Life. One of Virtual Ability's core values is giving back to the Second Life community. We are delighted to announce that we will pay Linden Lab's generosity forward and use their donation to fund Mobility Without Limits, a contest to create original virtual wheelchairs for use in Second Life. By funding prizes that will go directly to Second Life creators, we hope to help strengthen the broader virtual world community while expanding the range of mobility options available to residents.

This contest will invite Second Life creators to design innovative, full-permission wheelchairs that enhance mobility, self-expression and roleplay for residents. A total of L$250,000 in prize money will be awarded across several categories, including:

•           Everyday Mobility
•           Racing and Sports
•           Fantasy and Sci-Fi
•           Mobility for Every Avatar, featuring wheelchairs designed for tinies and other non-standard avatars

Additional details about Virtual Ability’s wheelchair contest Mobility Without Limits will be announced soon. We look forward to seeing the creativity this contest inspires. If you have any questions, please contact Eme Capalini.

Virtual Ability's Second Life community is supported behind the scenes by our real-world nonprofit organization, Virtual Ability, Inc., a 501(c)3 charitable organization. To learn more about our work, please visit https://www.virtualability.org

Once again, thank you to Linden Lab for their generous support and for recognizing the work Virtual Ability has done to help make Second Life more welcoming and accessible for everyone. We are honored to be part of this remarkable virtual world.

And The Winner Is ...

At 9AM SL time today, the twenty-three winners of Linden Lab's Golden Ticket Giveaway were on stage at the Orpheum Theater. In the middle were twenty three boxes, with twenty-two containing 10,000 Linden dollar prizes, and one that had a million Linden dollar prize. About 180 residents crowded themselves in with many more watching via the Youtube feed

One by one, starting with the winners of the earliest tickets, the contestants, most of whom who got up and walked to the show host, Ninja, on stage, a few having to remain seated due to lag, chose one of the boxes. They all gave a small shower of sparks, and the host would say they were 10k prizes. Finally with nine boxes left, Carmelle James (Missnicety1 Resident), chose box 19. And this would be the one that would win one million Linden dollars.

Carmelle had remained in her seat and messaged her choice to Brett Linden who messaged the show host, so it's likely she had to deal with lag worse than most others. I didn't notice any further response from her, and only got up from her chair some time after the event ended.

One of the 22 secondary winners did respond. Se7en Zen had chosen to donate her 10,000 Linden dollar prize to the Relay for Life's Second Life Cheerleading Squad. "RFL is an important cause, and it's a privilege to be able to support it," she would tell me."

At the end, Ninja had a special announcement.  Linden Lab was matching the grand prize with giving another one million Linden dollars to four charities: Virtual Ability, Team Fox (diabetes research), Spoonful of Sugar (Doctors Without Borders), and the Relay for Life in Second Life.

"That 250k donation pledge from the Lindens was an exciting announcement," Se7en added, "I want to add that the cheer community in SL supports RFL with our whole hearts. This is  cause that touches us all, and RFL is a way to share hope."

While this would be the last official event of the SL23B, the Birthday goes on Sunday July 19, to Midnight SL time.

Last Day For The Golden Ticket Giveaway

After 23 days, Linden Lab's million Linden dollar Golden Ticket Giveaway for the SL23B is almost over. Today is the last chance to get a shot, or another shot, at one of the prizes. Once the clock strikes Midnight, that's it.

The winners will attend an event on Friday July 17 at 9AM SL time (Noon EST), which will be broadcasted on Youtube, with 22 10,000 L prizes, and one 1,000,000 L prize.

Conversations with others entering have people wishing each other luck, with a girl or two offering to be the "arm candy" of the winner. So who will it be? Baring the unexpected, we'll know Friday.

The Second Life Birthday goes on to Sunday July 19.

The SL23B Golden Ticket Giveaway

One of the big draws at this year's Second Life Birthday is the Golden Ticket Giveaway.  It offers a chance at winning something most of us will never see, a million Linden dollars.

Who wants to be a L$ millionaire? Inspired by this year’s Golden Age of Hollywood theme, the Golden Ticket Giveaway promises to award one lucky resident a grand prize of one million Linden Dollars that can be used for a luxury virtual shopping spree or anything else you can imagine!

One can enter up to five times a day until Sunday July 14. To do so, you visit one to five of the five kiosks around the SL23B grounds, such as the one at the "Red Carpet Welcome" at SLB Incredible (151/98/21). It should be noted that at least one kiosk keeps getting moved around, at least according to chatter in Second Life Birthday group chat.

What happens next is of those who entered each day, one winner is picked for each of the 23 days the contest is active. The 23 winners are then entered in a second contest. 22 will get 10,000 Linden dollar prizes. And one lucky winner gets the one million Linden prize.

It should be noted that some residents of certain countries are ineligible, and any taxes resulting from winning the prize are the sole responsibility of the winner. So the winner should get ready to receive a Form 1099-MISC from the IRS.

Read more about the contest in the official blog.

Announcement: “The Missing Torso Mystery Game”

If you love art, writing, and mysteries, participate in Kondor Art Center’s “The Missing Torso” game. It focuses on Zia Branner's missing masterpiece. It vanished when the crew closed the center for the night. Security cameras were turned off because no one knows who took it. If you’re ready to investigate, these are the steps you can take to solve the mystery.

Start your investigation at the Main Gallery. Look for 14 hidden fragments such as colors, shadows, or seams of gold scattered across the gardens, galleries, and the Kondor Café.

Click each fragment to receive clues leading to the next location.

Find the missing Torso hidden in one of the landmark installations. They offer a hint: Look up! The architecture is part of the mystery.

Provide evidence. Take a photo of the Torso exactly where you found it.

Write Your Theory. Compose a story (150–900 words) explaining the disappearance. Use a pseudonym to keep the mystery alive!

Submit your investigation. Drop your story and photo at the Kondor Café submission box before Sunday, March 29. That’s when the game ends.

The Rewards:  8,000L Prize Pool and Certificates & Distinctions. Winners will be announced at the Grand Gala on Thursday, April 9.

“THE MISSING TORSO”  — Mystery Game Contest Rules

1. Description of the Contest

“The Missing Torso” is a cultural mystery game set in the Kondor Art Center, combining art, storytelling, and investigation. Participants must explore the Kondor Art Center's exhibition venues, find fragments and clues, identify the missing artwork, and submit their own written theory on the disappearance.

2. Objective

The objective of the contest is to collect all fragments of the missing torso artwork and, based on the clues discovered, to produce a compelling narrative theory explaining how and why the disappearance occurred.

3. Participation

Participation is open to all visitors of the Kondor Art Center. There is no entry fee. Participants may join the game at any time between the contest's opening and closing dates.

4. Contest Duration

The mystery game and contest will run from:

Opening: January 29, 2026

Closing: March 29, 2026

All final submissions must be received before 23:59 SLT on March 29, 2026.

5. How to Play

Participants must:

    1.    Visit the Kondor Art Center and its venues.

    2.    Find the hidden fragments and clues distributed across the different locations.

    3.    Assemble the information gathered in order to find the missing artwork.

Clues are partial fragments of the missing artwork with an important written message inside, that lead to the next place, where the next hint is hidden. To get it, just click on the fragment found.

    4.    After finding the missing artwork hidden in one of the important places of the Kondor Art Center, take a photo of it in its location.

    5.     After finding it, write a narrative theory about its disappearance, and include the photo taken in the location you found it. This is the most important part of the game

6. Final Submission Requirements

Final submissions must:

    •    be written in English

    •    be signed by the participant with a pseudonym

    •    be between 150 and 900 words

    •    present a theory explaining the disappearance of the torso

    •    be original and written specifically for this contest

    •    include a notecard with the participant’s SL avatar name

The tone and style are free: poetic, noir, humorous, academic, detective, surreal, philosophical, documentary, etc.

7. Jury and Evaluation Criteria

The jury will evaluate submissions based on the following criteria:

    1.    Narrative quality (clarity, coherence, imagination)

    2.    Engagement with the clues

    3.    Elegance of language and tone

    4.    Cultural sensitivity and sophistication

    5.    Originality of theory

    6.    Overall enjoyment

Bonus appreciation may be given to theories that:

    •    link multiple venues

    •    reflect Kondor’s cultural atmosphere

    •    show literary ambition

    •    demonstrate a personal style

8. Plagiarism & AI Clause

We love creativity — not copy/paste.

AI tools may be used as assistants (e.g., brainstorming, editing, translation), but the theory itself must be written by you.

If your submission reads like ChatGPT dictation or an encyclopedia entry, we will politely close the case and disqualify it.

9. Prizes

Total prize pool: 8,000 $L

Additional gift cards may be awarded.

Prizes will be distributed as follows:

    •    1st Place: Main Prize + certificate

    •    2nd Place: Runner-up Prize + certificate

    •    3rd Place: Honorable Mention + certificate

There will be prize money awards for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes

Additional distinctions may be awarded at the jury’s discretion.

10. Jury Decisions

The jury's decisions are final. The jury may declare a tie, award shared prizes, or withhold prizes if submissions do not meet the minimum criteria.

11. Rights and Attribution

Participants retain the rights to their written texts. By submitting, participants grant Kondor Art Center permission to:

    •    display the texts in-world

    •    publish them for exhibition purposes

    •    include them in salons, catalogues, or machinima

    •    archive them in Kondor’s cultural collection

Attribution will always be respected.

12. Disqualification

Texts may be disqualified if they:

    •    are plagiarized

    •    contain hateful or discriminatory content

    •    include personal attacks

    •    violate general community norms

Erotica is allowed if tasteful and culturally meaningful.

13. Results and Closing Ceremony

The winners will be announced and prizes delivered during a special gala on April 9, 2026.

14. Questions

Questions and clarifications may be addressed in-world or via notecard to Hermes Kondor.

Sponsors include: BBX Design - Yachts & Buildings, Cats Claw Designs, Dench Designs, Kunglers Jewelry, NanoGunk - Cigar Yachts, and Sunwheel Studio.

"March Mobile Millions" Offers Residents a Chance At One Million Linden Dollars

Even though it takes roughly 250 Lindens to equal one US dollar, a lot of them adds up to some good money. A million Linden dollars is about $4,000, which is a lot of money to most every resident. And this is the top prize for Linden Lab's latest contest, "March Mobile Millions," which offers residents a chance to win some big money.

Get ready for an exciting month-long celebration with March Mobile Millions! Throughout the month of March, we’re giving you the chance to win Linden Dollar prizes and an exclusive VIP inworld experience!

To take part requires logging in to Second Life through the mobile viewer.every day and complete a challenge for the particular week. For instance, the challenge for week one is to teleport to three different places in the Destination Guide (ends March 10). Each day, one resident who's done the challenges will be selected to get a ticket to enter a secret location for a "VIP Spin and Win" event. This event takes place once a week, streamed live on the Second Life Youtube channel, and ticketholders get a chance to spin the "Megawheel" "for massive Linden dollar prizes." As stated players can win up to a million Linden dollars.

The wheel has 48 slots and offers the following:
  • L$10,000 (15 slots) – approx. $40 USD
  • L$20,000 (12 slots) – approx. $80 USD
  • L$50,000 (10 slots) – approx. $200 USD
  • L$100,000 (5 slots) – approx. $400 USD

  • L$300,000 (2 slots) – approx. $1,200 USD

EOTB: Linden Lab Holding SL Halloween Video Contest

For those in Second Life who like Halloween and filming videos, Linden Lab has a contest just for you. Earlier this week, they announced they were holding a Halloween video contest, inviting residents to do spooky shows.

Are you feeling spooky and scary? The Halloween season is upon us and this year, we have a special treat (no tricks) in store for all you ghouls and goblins out there.

Do you have a knack for creating captivating videos? Do you love the spookiness that Halloween brings? We invite you to show off your creativity in our Halloween Video Contest!

To take part, one needs to do a Halloween-themed video in Second Life, then post it to either Youtube, Tik-Tok, or Instagram. The Lab asks that you "Tag the Second Life account and use the hashtag #SLHalloweenContest2023 so we can find your entry."

There's a 25,000 Linden dollar prize for the video with the most views on each platform. If the same video makes it to the top of all three, not only will the maker get the 75,000 Lindens for each, but a 25,000 Linden dollar bonus, for a total of 100,000 Lindens.

The contest goes on until Monday October 30. The winner will be announced on Halloween, Tuesday October 31. Multiple entries are allowed, but the contest is open only to residents of Second Life, and can only be filmed in Second Life. The videos must be new, done on or after October 9, and any obscene or otherwise offensive material, or using material protected by someone else's copyright, will disqualify the video.

Remember, the more captivating and Halloween-y your video is, the more views it'll likely get. So get your thinking (witch) hats on and start plotting! This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together, showcase their talents, and share in the Halloween spirit.

The SL20B National And Global Contests

The Second Life Birthdays have had prizes one can win for some time. But there's a chance to get a real-life prize from a contest here at the SL20B celebrations, in addition to a chance every day to get a free upgrade to Premium for a year, or maybe for life.

Visit the SL20B welcome area and look for the National and Global contest kiosks to win one of many huge prizes! Qualifying U.S. residents can  win a brand new Chevrolet Bolt EV car or a high-end ASUS computer in the physical world. Global community members can win one of several special prizes including daily giveaways of One-Year Premium Second Life Subscriptions and more!

The welcome area is in the SLB Awesome sim, a globe-shaped structure with greenery that in most hours of the day has had numbers of people. Going inside, at ground level there's a number of kiosks, and a rotating model of the grand prize for one of the two contests: a real-life electric car.

Of the two contests, one is open to US residents only, the National Sweepstakes.  The other is open to all residents of Second Life, the Global Sweepstakes.

The greater attention is on the National Sweepstakes prizes, as they're higher in value. The Grand Prize is an electric car, a Chevrolet Bolt EV, which has a "suggested retail price" of $27,495 USD. There are also five First Prizes, "Sponsor specified" laptop gaming computers described as worth about $2800 USD.

Of the Global Sweepstakes, the prizes are free upgrades to one's account. The Grand Prize is a free upgrade to Premium for one's account, for life. The First Prize is a free upgrade to Premium Plus for one year. There are also Daily Prizes for a free upgrade to Premium account for one year.

One can enter up to Wednesday July 5 for both the National and Global contests. The drawing for the Grand and First prizes will be "on or around" Thursday July 6. One can enter the draw for the Daily Prize in the Global contest once a day.

To enter, head to SLB Awesome (108/122/35).
