Spanish With Eugenia

While a small majority of Second Life's residents come from English-speaking countries, others come from countries where it's not so commonly spoken. Plus in real life many people from other lands move to those countries. So it's often a good idea to try to learn a little about another language. Among the various exhibits at the Second Life Birthday was that of "Spanish With Eugenia," a language class by Eugenia Calderon. The Newser met up with her and had a few words with her about it.

Just opened three months ago and is already a point of reference for many Spanish speakers, Project Latino is innovative and willing for all those who come to enjoy the facilities and the variety of services that this place offers. Eye on the Blog: Introduction to Second Life for Educators - a Course in Spanish Part 2

In the Linden Blog, what's being highlighed is a course inworld aimed at teachers from Spanish language areas to help them make use of Second Life to help teach.

Back in April we blogged about the University of San Martin de Porres Perú is offering a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) called "Introduction to Second Life for Educators" that was specifically designed to help Spanish speaking educators leverage Second Life for educational purposes. Since then the course has been improved and updated, and a new session is set to start on September 29th at Second Life Para Docentes.

About the course:

The Virtual Worlds Project of The University of San Martin de Porres from Perú starts this September 29th the second edition of the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) entitled "Introduction to Second Life for Educators 2nd. Ed.". The course is free and is designed to train Spanish speaking educators on the use of the virtual world Second Life, and to provide knowledge that allows educators to benefit from its potential, especially in the education field.

Second Life has long offered places where English-speaking residents can learn Spanish. But what about Spanish-speaking teachers interested in using Second Life as a tool to educate? That's the focus on the latest post from the official Linden blog,

The University of San Martin de Porres from Perú is offering a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) called "Introduction to Second Life for Educators". This course is designed to help Spanish-speaking educators in the use of Second Life as a starting point in their interaction with emerging and innovative environments that can be used for education. This initiative meets the needs of students who are experiencing this new way of learning and studying in virtual environments, as well as their tendency for increased use of technology.

Celebrating Mexican Independance Day

At the Instituto Español last night, there was a party celebrating Mexico's Independence Day on Sept 16. People attending, both from the Institute's group and visitors, were passed handheld Mexican flags, and invited to dance. Some people showed up in ethnic fashion for the event, and there was much music to dance to.

The Instituto Español offers lessons in Spanish for Second Life residents, and helps inform about cultural events in Spanish-speaking countries.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

Today is the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos, or "The Day of the Dead. At first glance this holiday, celebrated in the US by some Mexican-Americans, may seem like a continuation of Halloween. But it isn't about pranks and scariness, but about remembering late family and friends. Grey Lupindo takes a look at how the Instituto Espanol describes the celebrations.

A Few Scenes at The Birthday in SL8B

On Thursday June 23, I heard there would be a few Lindens about in the SL8B event. I never did find Rodvik, but I did find one other Linden, as well as a number of others out to have fun at the Cake Stage during "The Birthday," as well as checking out a few exhibits.
