From Kim Link on March 11. There are a number of races in Second Life, such as the Giant Snail Races, and the AGRA racetrack. At the Roma community, every week they have their chariot races. Unlike the other two mentioned however, the chariots (and horses) can suffer damage. Bump into the walls and other horses too much, you won't be finishing.

Something appropriate for the Ides of March.

10am - Bellonalia Ritual
Our festivals begin with a ritual for Bellona, the Roman Goddess of War - sister of Mars, and Spiritual Mother of ROMA's Amazons. After the ritual, we will have chariot races in Bellona's honour, with prizes for the victors!

1pm - Legion Relay Race
In honour of this month's festivals, the Legio has decided to conclude them with a relay race through Transtiberim! Racers will be organised into 3 man teams - which will gather items needed to bake bread for Vesta, prepare them, and present the baked bread at the finish line. This is a timed race, and the 3 best times will recieve cash prizes!

Chariot Races in Roma

Last weekend during their Bacchanalia Festival, on March 29 the Roma community held some chariot racing. From Noon to 1PM SL time, there was the sound of hooves hitting the track and the cheers of the crowd as the horses made their way around the track.

In honour of Mars and Equirria, we are having chariot races in the Hippodrome! The races will be done as 3 five lap races - and anyone is welcome to enter the race and try for the prize! There will be cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place winners!

Second Life Newser was unable to attend the event, but Melanippe of Themiscyra (melanippe.karas) sent over a couple pictures. Aqua Resident came in "Primus," Rachel Corleone was "Secundus," Atashi Toshihiko made "Tertius," and Alba Cabo finished at "Quartus."

Race 1 - Reasonably Sized Critters
Open race for any ridable animal that will fit into the starting gate.

Race 2 - Unreasonably Sized Critters
Open to any non-flying critter
LeMans-style race - avatars will stand in starting gate, at start run to a designated spot, rez their critters, begin race.

Race 3 - Horse Race
Open to any SL horse that will fit in the starting gate.

Race 4 - Roman Chariots
A free chariot will be furnished with each entry & only these chariots will be allowed on the track. LeMans start - avatars in starting gate, at start run to your chariot and drive away.

The Minoan Empire

Overshadowed by the Lost Gardens of Apollo, another place slated for vanishing was the Mionan Empire historical roleplay sim. Unlike the Lost Gardens, however, the community behind it was able to rebuild in a new location. Before the original place faded away, Netera Landar was able to drop in for a look.
