Ark Fiction: Unhappy Thanksgiving

 

Officially, the game of Ark Survival Evolved is gone. The company closed down the official servers, leaving those with the game only the player-run servers or to play it single-player.  But for those who spent hour after hour on it, there are the memories. Among them, when there was the Thanksgiving event, and the "Super Turkey" that took forever to kill. So a Thansgiving joke by a friend had me thinking about this mutant bird that could easily have you for dinner, and I was inspired to come up with this piece of creative fiction.

As we get ready to sit down for Thanksgiving dinner, or perhaps lie down after chowing down, we reflect on the fun times, and perhaps the jokes about anything Thanksgiving. In 2016, Mylie Foxclaw did an amusing little tale about a Thanksgiving dinner gone wrong, one with a happy ending.

SL Fiction: Christmas In The Deathlands

 

We take a break from the news to bring for your entertainment a piece of Second Life fiction. In the continuing tales of Melvin Cooper, an ex-burglar brought from early 21st Century America to the post-apocalyptic area known as the Deathlands. Christmas Day starts out like many others for our protagonist, hungry with no food. But his luck takes some unusual turns, and eventually gets to show some locals what the Christmas spirit is about.

Clumsy Cooper's Halloween Tale

 

We interrupt our news reporting with a Halloween story. Clumsy Cooper is back. Somehow, he ended up in Montecity Bay after his trip to the Deathlands. Life is better, with food every day and a soft bed every night. But he still wishes for more, such as cute girls. With rumors floating around, someone asks him for a favor, right on Halloween night. Will our ex-burglar get himself a decent amount of cash? Will he finally find love? The only thing one can be sure of on Halloween is to expect the unexpected.

Looking Back: The Misadventures of Clumsy Cooper

 

In March 2011, the Newser ran a "fun article" for the purposes of helping to advertise the Podex Exchange. A furry raccoon with a popgun made a lame attempt to hold up the place, possibly inspired by it's nickname: the Podex Bank. As it turned out, this would be just the first of many such fun articles about the clumsy burglar whom kept trying to rob the place and hilariously failing every time. They would go on for over four years until sadly Linden Lab's new rules brought them to an end. In this story, we look back at the takes of the bandit known as Clumsy Cooper.

Creative Fiction: Second Life’s TV Commercial (2010)

  

Yesterday, we wrote about the Second Life commercial done by Linden Lab, in cooperation with Levitate Media. While the commercial's been in development for months, no doubt the idea of one has been floated about among the residents for years. In the days of M Linden in early 2010, for amusement I came up with a couple ideas that were part of a "creative fiction" story I did for JamesT Juno and Dana Vanmoer's Second Life Newspaper then.

Santa is Missing: Part 2

In the second part of Mylie Foxclaw's Christmas tale, she is continuing to search for the missing Santa Claus. Finding little sign of his whereabouts, she decides a change of tactics is in order to learn more. Eventually, she gets a lucky break.

Mylie Foxclaw got such a positive reaction to her Thanksgiving story, she decided to write another. In this tale, she gets some disturbing news: Santa Claus is nowhere to be found. Urged on by an elf and reindeer, she travels to the North Pole to see if there might be some clues to what might have happened to the big guy.

A Very Unexpected Thanksgiving Dinner

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the United States, or "Turkey Day" as some amusingly call it. The holiday means different things to different people, but everyone associates the day with a big Thanksgiving dinner, with the main course being a plump cooked turkey. Mylie Foxclaw has an amusing little story, in which she describes getting set to cook the perfect Thanksgiving dinner, and nothing seems to go right.

Creative Fiction: The Morph Machine

Becky "Sha" Shamen was inspired to write something that could be described as part creative science-fiction, and partially a prediction of what technology might offer in the future. In real life, we are learning more about DNA and how to manipulate it. Surgery is also getting less invasive (sometimes), and with doctors able to alter someone's appearance to greater degrees. With this in mind, what if in a time not so far away people don't have to go to virtual reality to have a different body, but with the help of available technology can become real-life versions of nonhuman Second Life avatars?

Creative Fiction: Second Life’s TV Commercial

It's been something of a wild week with sim closing and coming back, then another sim set to close, still another apparently having quietly faded away (more on that tomorrow), and finally Linden Lab's move on Third-Party Viewers that's raised more than a little alarm. So maybe it's time for something to inspire both a little brainstorming and maybe a few chuckles. Tateru Nino recently asked her readers "how would you advertise Second Life." That got me thinking of a story I wrote for Dana Vanmoer in my days at Second Life Newspaper. The section it was in closed when the paper did, so here it is again in the Newser.
