Cartoon of The Day: Rainbow Roo

Taken at the Relaystock. The event attracted avatars of all kinds, including a furry kangaroo. With her outfit, I quickly came up with a pun.

Health Island is a place in Second Life where you can get information on various health matters. The exhibits change every month, so there is new information available. Gemma Cleanslate recently went over to check out those for this month. So what did she find.

Bid The Lindens Bald Results

On Wednesday April 9, the "Bid the Lindens Bald" event took place. Organized by the Relay Rockers, it would take place just a few days after the multi-team Relaystock. Arizona Ballinger-Whiplash would have this to say about both events.

RelayStock 2025 was an unforgettable celebration of community, hope, and togetherness. With 45 Relay teams—our second-highest turnout ever—and 22 teams filling the stage with music, the energy was incredible. This beloved halfway point in the Relay For Life of Second Life season is more than just an event; it’s where friendships deepen, memories are made, and we’re reminded why we Relay. From dancing 'in the mud' to welcoming the traditional final-day rain, the spirit was alive in every moment. In just 2.5 days, our amazing teams raised L$2,103,576 ($8,414 USD) for the American Cancer Society—a record-breaking total that shows the heart of this community.

"Just days after RelayStock, 'Bid The Lindens & Moles Bald' returned for its 9th year of brave, heartfelt fun in support of the American Cancer Society. Four teams of 22 Lindens and Moles rallied donations during a spirited two-hour party, all putting their hair on the line in the fight against cancer. In a nail-biting finish, Team 3 saved their locks by just L$75—proving that every linden truly counts when we come together to fight cancer."

Yours truly wasn't able to get to the event on time. But the totals on the kiosks were still there:

Team 1 43,225
Team 2 39,675
Team 3 - 39,500
Team 4 - 49,604 (Patch)

From Selene Jashan

So Team Four, consisting of Spiffy, Dion, and Abnor Mole and Jade, Hobbes, and Patch LInden, got the most donations. Team Three, Brigantia, Mini, and Chronos Mole and Keria and Derrick Linden were the ones whose hair ended up cut and shaved on the barber chairs. Derrick had been sporting a huge wig. Fuzzball Ortega was there and talked later that he thought of donning "The Hair," but decided against it as he didn't want to take away from Derrick's moment to shine.

Between the Relaystock and "Bid The Lindens Bald," the Relay Rockers' total raised for this season has gone up to 528,428 Linden dollars, or $2,113.71, making them 11th place of 179 teams.

Be sure to keep an eye out for other Relay events this month, such as Bellisseria for Life, and the popular Fantasy Faire.

Go Relay!

SL22B Voulunteer Staff Applications Now Open

For those interested in being volunteer staff for the upcoming Second Life Birthday, also know as the SL22B, good news. Yesterday, Thursday April 10, Linden Lab announced they were accepting applications for positions

We’re looking for volunteers to assist during the celebrations. We are seeking Residents with great people skills and a passion for sharing the best of Second Life to help us make SL22B a huge success!

If you have the Second Life spirit and stamina to promote SL22B events and serve as a guide for huge crowds, we’d love for you to fill out the volunteer application by May 19th!

To apply, those wishing to be volunteer staff need to fill out the application on Google Docs (here). Applicants will be asked what position, or positions, they are offering to fill, if they have a preference for the adult or general audience sims, what mesh avatar body type they have, as well as their user and display names. Volunteers are expected to be courteous, be able to work for shifts lasting at least two hours, need to let cordinators or managers know if they are going to miss a shift, need to attend training sessions, need to wear team shirts, and being volunteers will not be paid for their time.

Volunteer applicants have until May 19 to send in their forms, the same day as those applying to be performers and exhibitors.

Governor Linden has announced the rosters for the five teams to compete in the 9th Annual Bid The Lindens & Moles Bald fundraising competition, in support of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Second Life.

The teams, made up of a total of 27 Lindens and Moles, have accepted the challenge to out raise their colleagues and “Save Their Hair”.  The top fundraising team will be awarded the scissors with which they will shave the hair of the team with the lowest total.

The competitors have agreed to go bald until SLB.  The fundraiser will be held April 4th thru April 9th in conjunction with the Relay Rockers’ annual RelayStock multi-team event.

Bid Me Bald is the signature fundraising event of the Relay Rockers and Celebrates survivors. Those who hear the words ‘You have cancer’ have little choice when it comes to hair loss. We can choose and we do so in solidarity with our honored survivors.

Sunbeamers Reach One Million Linden Mark After Raising 100,000L At Relaystock

This weekend, the Relaystock took place, with various teams getting campsites and a musician, sometimes with dancers, on stage. At 3PM Saturday April 5th, it was the turn of Team Sunbeamers. With DJ Cynthia spinning a set of classic rock tunes, a number of other 'beamers got on stage with her and the team danced away on stage, often cracking jokes and puns, "I get by with a little hemp from my friends..."

The results were a smashing success for the "wackiest team in Second Life," raising a hundred thousand Lindens for the time they were on stage, a new record. Two Sunnies then lived up pledges they made if this was done, Shockwave, the team's wolf, donning a grandmother's nightgown, "HOW do I get talked into doing this?" And Brian became a brightly pink fennec in a tutu, "Okay Brian!!! Strip to the tutu!"

For the team, another milestone was reached. They'd achieved Emerald status fundraising, the one million Linden dollar mark. This marks the fourth year in a row they've done so, and the earliest they've done so ever. Currently, the Sunbeamers are sixth out of 177 teams.

While the Relaystock is over, the camps are still up for people to see, and don't forget the "Bid the Lindens Bald" event later this week.

More pictures later.

Go Sunbeamers! Go Relay!

Skype Shutting Down in May

Readers will most likely remember Skype, the chat application that was commonly used from the late 2000s and 2010s, and still used by 36 million computer and smartphone users as late as Feb 2023. But it was announced a month ago that in May, it will be shutting down

We want to express our deepest gratitude for your support over the years. Skype has been an integral part of countless meaningful moments, and we are honored to have been part of your journey.

Microsoft, which has owned Skype since 2011, announced that Teams, it's newer platform, will be taking it's place

Skype was widely used in the 2010s, but as time went on, some users would drop it, using others such as Discord and Zoom.
