Happy St. Patrick's Day

Today is Saint Patrick's Day, a holiday not only celebrated in Ireland, but also the United States, Canada, and a number of other countries where numbers of Irish settled.

Second Life boasts a couple noteworthy locations related to the holiday. One is the Castle Blarney Pub, located in the Dublin sim. This venue has been in Second Life for over a decade and can be counted to draw a crowd this time of year. So be prepared for lag. "Come visit the lively, always-exciting Blarney Stone Irish Bar in Second Life. Social events and live DJ music occur daily. Live music concerts are also held three times a week."

Dublin (82/82/25).

Another is Castle Blarney in the Wilde sim. It's where the Blarney Stone is located in real life. And here in Second Life, making the journey is just a teleport away. Just head to the top, lay on the floor where the stone is, and kiss it. Will you receive the gift of gab (or be "full of Blarney")? Who knows (yours truly has kissed it a few times inworld).

And don't forget to check around for St. Patrick's-themed events.

Happy St. Patrick's Day.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

It's St. Patrick's Day. And for those who want to see a themed location, there are a couple longtime ones that have been on the Grid for years.

There is a Dublin sim, and in the middle is the Blarney Stone pub. It's active year round, with live musicians.

WELCOME TO DUBLIN IN SL, GATHERING PLACE FOR THE WORLD ! Dublin in Second Life recreates the look and feel of the city of Dublin, Ireland. Events are scheduled daily. Irish Pub, club, bar, live, blarney, gogartys, shamrock, st paddys, st patricks

But St. Patrick's Day is special, with DJs and live music, late into the night.

Don't forget to check the rest of the sim as there's much to see.

Dublin (83/82/25)

Another place to explore is Castle Blarney, in the Wilde sim.

Scale replica of the real Blarney Castle main tower in Ireland, with Blarney Stone kissing animation certificate outside the castle entryway Irish village, Malones Irish Pub, Blarney Castle, Blarney Stone faerie wishing well

Here, you can travel up and kiss the Blarney stone, which is a lot quicker here in SL (and more sanitary).

The castle is part of O'Hare's Gap, with a nearby Irish village. Don't forget to check it out if you have a little time.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

 *

It's St. Patrick's Day. Of the places to check out, there's the Blarney Stone Pub in the Dublin sim at (83/82/25).

"Come visit the lively, always-exciting Blarney Stone Irish Bar in Second Life. Social events and live DJ music occur daily. Live music concerts are also held three times a week." Don't forget to look around a little as a nearby building has a few freebies. But so does the pub. And for those dropping by between events, there's a few games on the second floor.

Another location would be Castle Blarney, in the Wilde sim at (160/109/33).

In real life, Castle Blarney is where the Blarney Stone is located. Legend has it those kissing the stone will be granted the "gift of blarney." Come by to give it a try.

Don't hesitate to explore around a little. In a nearby sim was a Disney ride.

And of course there are various St. Patrick's themed parties. Club Cutlass would have it's own last night with 1400 Lindens as the prize on both the male and female boards. Keep a lookout for others today and tomorrow.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day

It's Saint Patrick's Day, the day that celebrates everything Irish. And there are a few Irish-themed places in Second Life.

One such place is Castle Blarney. It's where the Blarney Stone is located. Just head to the top, lay on the floor where the stone is, and kiss it. Will you receive the gift of gab (or be "full of Blarney")? Who knows.

Castle Blarney is in the Wilde sim at (150, 110, 33).

Another appropriate location is the Castle Blarney Pub in the Dublin sim. This location has been in Second Life for years, and always draws a crowd this time of year. So be prepared for lag. "Come visit the lively, always-exciting Blarney Stone Irish Bar in Second Life. Social events and live DJ music occur daily. Live music concerts are also held three times a week."

Dublin (82/82/25).

A favorite among shoppers this time of year is St. Patrick's Town. It's in Laura Liberty's Townies sim. There are shops you can get green outfits, as well as props such as rainbows and pots of gold. There's also a rainibow slide you can zip down, into a pile of gold coins. There's also a beer dunking booth, and a gold mine where you can find gold bars with gifts inside.

Townies (127/27/25)

In the Celtic Mist sim is Finian's Dream. The Destination Guide describes it, "A mystical and beautiful land, based on old Celtic Ireland. Come discover the secrets of the forest as you explore the misty woods, stop by the tavern, see the countryside, and visit a castle. The region was designed by Noralie78. "

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Today is Saint Patrick's Day, a holiday not only celebrated in Ireland, but also the United States, Canada, and a number of other countries where numbers of Irish settled. Even countries where Irish came only to visit, such as Russia and Japan, have Saint Patrick's Day parades.

Second Life has a number of Saint Patrick's Day parties today, notably the one at Club Cutlass tonight at Sunweaver Bay (114/117/757) at 6PM SL time. But one location that will be having them all day starting at 8AM SL time is the Blarney Stone Pub in Dublin (82/82/25). The place has been around on the Grid for over ten years, and the sim gets hundreds of visitors this time of year.

Another location to visit is Castle Blarney at Wilde (159/109/33). For more information, check the article written about it in 2012. Or just head there and look around, and perhaps kiss the stone for yourself.

Some St. Patrick's Places and Events

"Top o' th' Mornin' an' happy Saint Potty's Day." There's a number of events to go to, and places to see. One just needs to know where to look.

One obvious place to look for goings-on is the Destinations Guide at (http://secondlife.com/destinations ). One of the events there was the "St. Patrick's Street Party" at the Edelfabrik sim.

Also was the London City Irish Festival in the London City sim, "Enjoy a month-long festival of Irish-themed entertainment in London City. Come see the the best from the emerald isles, including bands, pub crawls, themed events, and collectables."

And the spot where every seasoned avatar goes to at least once on St. Patrick's Day: the Dublin sim. One ends up at an entry point next to an information guide and teleport markers. From there, one can port on over to the Blarney Stone pub, where one can raise a pint of ale to other partiers at this most Irish of social spots.

If you want to get away from the crowds, you can take a visit to Castle Blarney at Wilde (150/110/33). There, you can have your avatar kiss the Blarney Stone. For our write-up on the location: Click Here.

These are just a few of the many holiday-themed events. Many clubs will be having their own St. Patrick's parties. Among them, the club nearest the SL Newser building, "The Vinyl," at HV Community (67/207/4051).

Happy Saint Patrick's Day.

Castle Quest - Looking For Love in All the Strong Places

Becky Shamen's explorations of the Grid took a stony turn for the latest article. She decided to check out a few of the castles across Second Life. Castles certainly leave a strong impression. What tale of Fantasy or of old Europe would be complete without one. One doesn't always have to go far to find one, as there's one not far from the SL Newser office in the Sunweaver Estates. But not all places that call themselves a castle in the destination guide left much of an impression on our intrepid reporter.

Castle Blarney

Are you "full of Blarney," haven't had enough of St Patrick's Day, or just want to see something Irish in Second Life? Besides the noted Dublin sim, there is Castle Blarney. Going there, one can go to the top and do the ritual of kissing the Blarney Stone.
