Crew Meeting

 Saturday July 7 was the day of the Newser's crew meeting. Attending from right to left were Jamiethefoxy, Klaus Bereznyak, Deaflegacy, and Bixyl Shuftan (myself). We traded ideas about what to write about, such as the upcoming Relay Weekend (which was the reason this pictures weren't posted last week), and other subjects.

At the end up the meeting when we all stood up, I noticed something about Klaus. He was shoeless. "Oh yes - it's the summer," he told me, "I have been hoboing." I reminded him with a grin, "Bare feet for a fur is one thing, for a human avatar, a bit more watch where you walk." "Hee hee - I will."

Five Years in Second Life

It was five years ago that Newser writer, Kimiko Kanagowa (FoxytheJamie Resident) first logged into Second Life. In the past few days, he's been looking back at what he's experienced. From clubs, to residential areas, to medieval lands, to sci-fi space areas, he's seen and taken part in quite a bit.

Tranquility Health Care

Last month, Kimiko Kanagowa (FoxytheJamie Resident) raised the question of where to find help for mental wellness in Second Life. A few months ago, the Newser wrote about one place that's been known for a while: Survivors of Suicide. But are there other groups? The answer is yes. Among them is the Tranquility Health Care clinic in Sorens. Kimiko met up with the founder, Steffi Sugabum, to talk about the group.

Help For Mental Wellness in Second Life.

After a hiatus, Kimiko Kanagowa (FoxytheJamie Resident) is back with the paper. What he wanted to bring up was the issue of mental health. Mental illness can be mild to severe. And people do not always simply "get over it" by themselves, but often need some help. So he raised the question: Are there places in Second Life where someone can get help for mental wellness? The answer is yes.

Crew Meeting, With Friends

 Saturday October 7 was the day of the Newser's monthly crew meeting. Deaflegacy, Klaus Bereznyak, and Foxythejamie were there, along with a couple neighbors, ShadowRene Ivanova, and Rua Whitepaw, to discuss events and places to report on this month.

At one point, Foxythejamie brought up he had a maid outfit, and changed to it. Guess one could call it a "maid to order" situation.

Crew Meeting

Saturday August 5 was the day of the monthly crew meeting for the SL Newser. Clockwise from left to right, Klaus Bereznyak, myself (Bixyl Shuftan), Deaflegacy, and FoxytheJamie. My friend Velani was also there. We talked about possible stories for the month ahead as this time between the Relay for Life season and mid to late October with Burn2, haunted houses, and the Creepy Crawl meant we had more chances to cover things around the Grid.

Deflegacy had been the first to arrive before the meeting. She spent the few minutes before I dropped by playing with "Chilly" the office cat. Close to four years old, her being a Firekitty from Team Firestorm's (then Team Phoenix) third anniversary party, Chilly has been roaming the office since growing up, keeping the place active even when no one is around.

Crew Meeting

 Saturday July 22 was the time of this month's crew meeting of the SL Newser. From left to right are Ciska Riverstone, whom had recently sent in a reader submission and was invited over, myself (Bixyl Shuftan), Deaflegacy, Gemma Cleanslate, and FoxytheJamie  (aka Kimiko Kanagowa), whom was back after a hiatus. The meeting took place in our office at HV Community.

There was much to talk about, as we had spent much time in the past couple months covering the Second Life Birthday and the Relay Weekend. And now we had more room to write about other things.

At one point, there was a slight glitch when an invitation, written on a texture, had been passed to Jamie, and it landed on the chair, turning the chair the pattern of the texture. It was an amusing moment in the meeting.

The Marvel Universe

After a hiatus, FoxytheJamie (aka Kimiko Kanagowa) is back with the Newser. In his first article with his return, he looks at "The Marvel Universe." Taking place in the environment of the Marvel comics, the players take on the role of superheroes. So what did Jamie think of it?

Crew Meeting

 On Saturday January 9 at Noon, the Newser crew had it's monthly meeting at it's office in HV Community. Those present were Gemma Cleanslate, Nydia Tungsten, FoxytheJamie, myself (Bixyl Shuftan) and a guest, Deaflegacy Darkbloom. With the Christmas season behind us, we talked about topics we could write about this month with no major events for the next few weeks.

Jamie was still wearing the avatar he recently did a review on. Looks like it got deputized for a little police action at a sim he's been hanging out at.

The Newser Beach Party

On Saturday January 2 at Noon SL time, some of the writers and fans of the SL Newser met up for a little beach party. The Newser crew usually has a beach party around Christmastime in December. It was suggested that a party just before the holiday might have a small turnout due to people either doing last minute shopping or being with family. So after some thought, it was moved to the Saturday after New Year's Day.

Among those who attended was Grey Lupindo, whom hadn't been inworld in a while, but took the time to drop by to get in touch once more with friends such as Gemma Cleanslate and FoxytheJamie.

The intended DJ was unable to log onto Second Life, so Tantari Kim, whom has been regularly DJing at the Happy Vixen took over, bringing her "Journey of Sound" to those outside the club's group of regulars dropping by. Old friends such as Kikas Barbenco (who ended up in the cartoon the following day) and Bejita dropped by. So did newer ones like store owner Alejandra Jumanya, Anne Brightstar, whom has recently started her own Second Life blog, "Exploring with Annie," Rai Fargis, who described himself as a real-life journalist, a co-captain from the Second Life Cherleader Squad, and others.

It was a happy time as we danced to the music, and put our cares away, at least for a little while.

Avatar Review: The KzK "Will o' Drake"

FoxytheJamie (also known as Theonlyjohnny Resident), is back with another avatar review. Today, he checks out a look from Kinzart Kreetures: the "Will o' Drake." This avatar has a mix of characteristics, some mammalian, some insect-like.

Crew Meeting

On Saturday September 5, members of the Second Life Newser crew met up. Those attending were Wesley Regenbogen, DrFran Babcock, FoxietheJamie, Gemma Cleanslate, Nydia Tungsten (not in the picture) and myself Bixyl Shuftan.

We discussed a number of things, including Team Firestorm's party and the pets that could be picked up there. Gemma showed off her Firekitty, Puffin, from their anniversary party two years before.

We also all posed for a group picture. This time two of us had our pets with us. Guess it was "Take Your Virtual Pet to Work Day" at the office.

Commentary: The Interstellar Alliance Roleplay

FoxytheJamie recently took a look at a science-fiction roleplay known as the Interstellar Alliance, or ISP. He describes the group as getting a good start, with a first class sim and a great group. Unfortunetly, difficulties led to the group having to move, followed by the leader deciding to make a few changes. The results, Jamie felt, were disappointing.

In his latest avatar review, FoxytheJamie looks at the Viss Bunny. With it's starry-eyed look, this lapine furry avatar stands out a bit. Jame got one, then wrote a review. So what did he think?

FoxytheJamie is here with an avatar review: the Kemono. This furry mesh avatar with smooth mouth movement has quickly gained a following. Jamie decided to give it a try, and wrote a review.

Commentary: The Boys From Brazil - The Megiddo

Foxythejamie has been in Second Life's combat areas again. This time, he writes about a team called Megiddo. Made up of Brazilians, and other combatants from around the world, Jamie writes that other squads have been questioning their performance. He went on to say that these rumors are false.
