Fourth SLB Linden "Town Hall" Today

 

Today, Friday June 28, the fourth of the Linden Town Hall events for the Second Life Birthday will take place. This one will feature a number of the Linden Moles.

 

 Attend a Town Hall at the SL21B Aquatorium with the Moles! The Moles are builders, scripters, and content creators employed by Linden Lab to work in the Linden Department of Public Works.

SL20B Lab Gab Schedule

 

 

 From Monday to Friday this week, there will be events in which various Lindens will talk to the residents about what they do in Second Life and answer a few questions about what's going on and what they plan to do. All will be held at the Aboretum at SLB Exhilarate.

On Monday June 26 at 1:30 PM SLT, Patch Linden will speak

 

On Tuesday June 27 at 1:30 PM SLT, Grumpity and Mojo Linden will be there.

On Wednesday June 28 at 1:30 PM SLT, people will get to see and hear Oberwolf and Philip Linden.

On Thursday June 29 at 1:30 PM SLT, Styfy and Bret Linden will be featured.

 

On Friday June 30 at 1:30 PM SLT, the Moles will be on stage to speak.

Once again, the events will be held at the Aboretum at  SLB Exhilarate (229/229/24)  . For those who can't be there, watch the event live on Youtube at the Second Life channel.

NUX Avatars Demonstrated At "Meet The Moles"

 
The Lindens revealed some things at the Second Life Birthday discussions last week. The one that got the most attention was the "Premium Plus" option for accounts. But there were others. At "Meet the Moles" on Friday June 24, it was revealed the Lindens and Moles were working on a new line of starter avatars, called the NUX avatars.

Patch would say NUX was short for New User eXperience, and reminded that the current line of starter avatars was "probably going on five to six years old." Unlike the existing line which are "a blend of system body with some mesh attatchments," the NUX will be fully mesh with Bento skeletons and "modernized using all the latest and greatest in avatar building technology, including bakes-on-mesh."

Jester Mole had on one of these new avatars, and hopped on a rotating platform to show it off. Patch stated they would have, "they'll have a whole array of initial outfits available to choose from when they go to sign up and create their avatar, including hairstyles and full ranges of various bodies and types." The avatars are also modifyable, "It's fully slider-rigged, so yeah, you can change the sliders around, change the body shape ..."

Patch stated others will be able to create clothes and other items for these avatars, "We will put out development kits and such that people will be able to design and make clothing and such for it." He did admit they wouldn't be as "robost and fully capable" as some resident-created avatars.

He would go on to say he felt the avatars would be a big help in encouraging new residents to stay and invest more time in the virtual world, saying they "I think will be a really big huge thing and have a tremendous impact on the new user experience and getting people in Second Life, because one of my key interests and goals is I want to grow Second Life. I want to get more people in. And that's very important to me. So, being able to give people a good foundation to start with, and then be able to move on to the larger creator ecoshpere and ecology of products that are available today is another huge consideration for us and how we're approaching this and designing it."

Of when the avatars would be available, Patch wouldn't give a date, "In the future, because I'm not saying soon anymore." There are still some bugs and things to work out.

The Last SL17B Events, Officially

The Second Life Birthday had a lot of events. But this past weekend were the last ones that were planned. Friday at 2PM was the last of the Meet the Lindens events, "Meet the Moles." For those who missed it, you can check out the video of it here.

You can also check out the other "Meet the Lindens" videos: Ebbe Linden, Patch Linden, Oz Linden, and the Marketing Team. We may do an in-depth look at one or more of the discussions later.

Besides the discussions at the Auditorium, there were music performances at the DJ booth. On Saturday June 27, DJ Tantari played her music for a crowd.

DJ Tantari's been in the Newser a few times, such as her 2015 interview, and her guide on how to DJ.

 And there would be live singers at the Main Stage.

Nance Clowes would also have a larger version of her SL17B Cake by the stage.

In the last few hours of official events, there were fireworks at the DJ booth.

Some left, but others hung around to the end.

Some of the fireworks formed words. They were too blurry for me to make out with the lag. But  Cayenne Republic posted a link to a picture in the birthday group chat.

While the official events are done, the exhibits are still there, and will be there until July 12. And with most of the people gone, this is when the lag is less, and those with older computers or otherwise have difficulty with Second Life can have less trouble sightseeing. It should be noted that this isn't necessarily the last of the events. There will likely be an unofficial final farewell party shortly before the sims are truly closed down.

"Meet The Moles" Today, 2PM

Today, the last of the "Meet the Lindens" events takes place at the Second Life Birthday. This time, it's a number of Moles being interviewed in "Meet the Moles."

Meet the Moles on Friday, June 26th at 2 p.m. (Pacific). The Moles are builders, scripters, and content creators employed by Linden Lab to work in the Linden Department of Public Works.

The interview will be conducted by Saffia Widdershins, and starts at 2PM at the SL17B Auditorium.

The official events at "The Birthday" will soon be over. The last ones take place on Sunday June 28. The sims themselves will stay up until July 12.
