Join the Seanchai Library staff and friends for two hours of stories, poetry,songs  and remembrances as we celebrate in Ceiliúradh Glen, whose very name means "celebration" in Irish.

Featuring Corwyn Allen, Shandon Loring, Elrik Merlin, Faerie Maven-Praloy, R. Dismantled, Ktadhn Vesuvino, Finn Zeddmore, Aoife Lorefield, Kayden Oconnell, and Caledonia Skytower, live.

Press Release: Windlight Magazine Changing Name

Windlight Magazine announces its name change to Kultivate Magazine. The name change is part of the rebranding of Windlight to reflect its expansion into other art forms, including music, fashion, and literature.

Kultivate Magazine will continue being a provider and supporter of the arts in Second Life and will continue providing these services to the many artists and creators in Second Life. The brand will also continue providing services to it’s real life virtual patrons in the form of tutorials and classes.

The name Kultivate was chosen for a variety of reasons. Brand founder and publisher, John, explained his reasoning for the choice of name: “When I created Windlight last year, I wanted to assist artists and to provide resources for the art world to anyone who wanted them. I also started Windlight in memory of a much beloved younger sister, who tragically passed away two years ago…….Kandis, my sister, experienced growth in more ways than one in Paris and took her photography to new heights and levels as she perfected her craft. This growth is what has lead me to rebrand Windlight into it’s new name: Kultivate.” The choice to spell cultivate with a K was in honor of John’s sister Kandis.

Kultivate will encompass Kultivate Magazine, The Edge and The Edge Gallery, Windlight Art Gallery, Windlight Bailywick Gallery, The Riff, and the upcoming Team Diabetes of Second Life Art Gallery.

The Chamber

Fritter Enzyme recently dropped by a reading area known as "The Chamber." The location has a number of stories to read, grouped by author. But the scenery in the various rooms adds to the atmosphere, such as surreal builds for the place where Edgar Allen Poe's works are. But there are more than just the classics, one can also read the works of present day writers in Second Life.

The Festival of Love 2013

On Thursday October 17th, the 2013 Festival of Love begins. The Festival of Love was described as "the biggest art music and literature event" in the German regions of Second Life, "Although most of the readings are in German, we provide many exhibitions and concerts that we believe will be interesting for an international audience, with two science fiction readings in English." The event goes on to Monday October 21st.

Daniel Voyager described the event as "bringing together writers, musicians, artists, makers, comedians and performers from RL/SL. It’s the biggest art and culture event on the Metropolis grid. More than 20 writers will be reading their latest books and musicians will be playing their songs. The Festival of Love first started back in 2011 and since then it’s been getting very popular."

Jackson Arthur’s Book Biz

Grease Coakes recently attended one of the events at Book Island, "Jackson Arthur’s Book Biz." There, he and other writers discussed ideas and joked a little. He also got a surprise gift from one author.

Reader’s Chat at Book Island

At the sim of Book Island there’s a multitude of events for everyone. Olivia Whitsend has her "Fix 'n Flash" event while Jackson Arthur soon after has his office hours. Every Saturday at 11am SL Brokali Resident has his own event Reader’s Chat at ( http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Book%20Island/192/68/26 ).


Brokali’s main topic for reader’s chat is all about books. Books that are read, books that were hated and books that people loved in his own words. Brokali leads the chat over voice chat with his charismatic voice and comments on everyone’s input into the chat.

Lycanthia Brought up a new book she just received in the mail the same day called the New Weird. The chat swung into the topic of comic books where Maggie Thunder (Maggie42) had this to say, "I learned to read reading comic books."

Comic books, I said, could be an art form as I have a few comic books myself. And some comics are graphic novels like Frank Miller’s Dark Knight. I said that the same book is realistic and could happen in the real world. Jackson Arthur said that Batman isn’t a super hero. I said to Jackson may be right, but do you really want to say that to Batman’s face? Brokali didn’t think that would be a smart idea.


Another topic was science fiction and fantasy, how it is a popular genre as an escape from the real world. Jackson Arthur said that fantasy and science fiction are the same coin just two different sides. Either magic or a futuristic device can be used to control someone’s mind for example. It can also be used as social commentary. Piers Anthony is a good example of science fiction and fantasy.

Brokali being a fan of unicorns wanted to see unicorn books in the world. We also talked about the MLP fad and Lisa Frank. I thought for a sec and remember the Last Unicorn was written by Peter S Beagle.

Then it occurred to me that a villain character of mine that I write about in my "tail sale" stories is a unicorn woman. Brokali liked how I reversed the good natured unicorn who helps people into a character who instead wants to kill and hurt others.

All in all Readers chat is a fun event to express books and comics that enriched your life as you listen to others express their fave reads as well. Whether you read a few books or a whole library of books, Reader’s Chat led by Brokali is for you.

Marney Wolfhunter to Hold Reading Event Series at Book Island

On a trip to Book Island, I met up with Marney Wolfhunter, a writer and publisher, founding a company aimed at “alternative” writers. She will be hosting a regular book reading event at Book Island starting Tuesday August 3rd. She talked a little about her own works, and those at the upcoming writers’ event.

10,000 L Poetry Contest

The ALA Literary Agency announces a competition awarded with 10,000 Lindens for a best poetic celebration of at least one of the "Seven Wonders of the World."

Open entry - winner will be chosen by professional writers and editors.

Deadline for submissions: June 27th 2010 (send notecards to Cath Munro). Please title the notecard "Poetry Contest - YOUR NAME"
