Memorial Service For Autopilotpatty Poppy This Saturday

There was some sad news for Caledon and other steampunk communities in Second Life this weekend. It was announced that Autopilotpatty Poppy, sometimes known as just Poppy, had passed away a few months ago in May.

It  is with great sorrow that I announce the passing of a former Captain of RFL, Dame Autopilotpatty Poppy this past May. Patty was a resident of the Steamlands since 2006 with land and venues in Rosehaven, New Babbage, Caledon and other estates.

The "Steamlands Wiki" had this to say about Poppy in an entry presumably last updated several years ago:

Dame Poppy has been a resident of Second Life and the Nation of Caledon since November 2005. She has owned a several fine art galleries over the years including: The Gallery Tamrannoch, Sea Song Gallery, Poppy's Place Galleria, and Thistle Hill Marketplace to name a few. She has offered free gallery space to dozens of new and established artists in SL since her first gallery opened in January of 2006. She is a photographer in RL as well as in SL. In SL she specializes in unique portraiture work. She has had work on display in permanent exhibits in the AHO gallery at the NMC campus and at the 2nd Louvre Museum. She has a gallery on the ruins of Caledon Moors and on the Scotland sim of Loch Lomond Balloch. Lady Poppy is from the Pacific Northwest. Her rl floral close-up photography remarkably brings to mind the works of Georgia O'Keefe.

Dame Poppy was Knighted on her 6th Rez Day on November 25th, 2011 by Caledon's Guvnah, Desmond Shang, for her exemplary work for the Independent State of Caledon.

Lady Poppy devotes a large amount of her time to volunteer work for the Caledon community and is a friend and mentor to many new citizens of SL. She is devoting much of her time in 2012 as Co-Captain of Team Caledon's Relay for Life fund drive. She devoted her time in 2011 as Co-Captain and in 2008 assisting Erasmus Margulis, Captain of Team Caledon's hugely successful RFL fund drive for the 2008 season. (Team Caledon came in 2nd overall with more than 3.04 million $L in 2008.)

In 2017, the Newser would write about the Rusty Garter Saloon, which Autopilotpatty played music at as DJ Poppy. A page in the NAS blog stated she had been DJing there as well. Her passing was listed as May 9.

The notice about her passing also stated, "There will be a memorial dance celebration in her honor on Saturday, July 18 from 2-4pm at Chateau Trikassi in Rosehaven. More info to come."

Lacy Musketeer's Memorial Service at Rocket City

It was last Thursday that Lacy Musketeer, a noted resident in Second Life known to many, died suddenly without warning. On Saturday, a memorial service was held in Rocket City, one of two places she was a big part of. Many people she knew came, and a number spoke about her.

Reader Submitted: Lacy Musketter Memorial

July 27, 2019 at 6PM SLT a memorial was held at Rocket City Community on Rocket City sim for Lacy Musketeer who had passed away earlier this week from an apparent heart attack. Upwards of 45 avatars came many who stood and recounted tales of knowing her and the things they did.

The sim was set to night time as Koterie Itoku stated "*Once I heard the news that she had passed, I immediately rushed over here and dropped the sun down as low as I could*". "*The reason for that, is she and I always had a thing where she would try to always leave the sim dark because she liked it when the sun was down, and I very much different. And it was always a thing. I felt like, okay Lacy, you can win one last time.*"

Some choose to use voice instead of typing. Other people such as Oscelot Haalan transcribed for the non-voice using. Thus no one missed most of what was said. During this lag became a factor to some and just getting to the speaking platform was a challenge but it did not stop them from what they had to say. The event lasted an hour and a half with several people sharing and poem reading. Lacy Musketeer will be missed by many and certainly not forgotten.

Memorial Service For Relayers Henrietta and Hilshire Demina

Earlier this month, the captain of the Relay for Life in Second Life team Strange Journey and her real-life brother, Henrietta and Hilshire Demina, were killed in an auto accident. On Saturday January 27, numbers of her friends and supporters came by her virtual family's castle to pay their respects. It was a sad moment, but also one to look upon the happiness that they, particularly Henrietta, had brought to Second Life and the Relay.

Weekend in Review

Quite a bit happened this weekend. The Furry Fashion mall celebrated it's tenth anniversary with a twelve hour party with thousands of Linden dollars in prizes given out. There were also Relay events, most notably the Halfway There Fair. But there were others such as Science Funday and the Mad Hatter party.

But not all of the events were happy ones. Haley Salomon, someone whom had been notable in Second Life's earlier days had passed away some days ago, and her memorial service was on Sunday May 7.

More on some of these events later.

It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that our friend, neighbor, and colleague Riven Homewood's RL avatar, Jean Hewlett, died on Monday April 3rd. Her son asked me to tell you all that it was quick and painless, and that she sent us all her love.

We're holding an informal memorial for her this weekend, a chance for us to tell each other our Riven Stories and comfort each other for our loss.

The 9/11 Anniversary in Second life (Sept (2009)

As Second Life Newser looks back at the days of it's predecessor, Second Life Newspaper, among the events covered were the September 11 anniversary events in 2009. With the tragedy more recent in peoples' minds, the memorials and remembrances were more, larger, and more detailed. The one at the New York City Block sim was featured in CNN.
