A Busy Weekend: Linden Motown Trivia, Firestorm Anniversary Party

This past weekend was a busy one in Second Life. Saturday Sept 2 was the Motown Trivia Party, at 12 Noon SL time. Madori Linden would ask various trivia questions.

Madori Linden: 4. What is the address of the original Motown recording studio?
a. 2648 West Grand Boulevard
b. 7365 Woodrow Wilson St.
c. 7373 Churchill St.
d. 6245 Avery St.

The place was a bit crowded, and laggy, but people braved the slow rezzing to answer trivia, or just for the music and dance, or to be at a Linden event. Some would get Madori Linden bears.  The event was scheduled to last until 2PM SL time.

Sunday Sept 3 would have another big event. It was the day of Team Firestorm's Thirteenth Anniversary Party, taking place on a stage at the intersection of four sims. It started at 10 AM with Maxamillian Kleene singing some tunes. At 11 AM, it was Bell Tabak's (PrettyBelle72) turn on stage. In the four sims, the number of people attending was over a hundred.

Jessica Lyon, the head of Team Firestorm, had always made it to previous anniversary parties. But unfortunately it would not be the case this time as a close family member was in the hospital someone quoting her, "cousin and I are sharing 12 hour shifts, ... and no Internet." During the event, someone shouted, "Jess asked me to several times during the party send her Thanks and Love to our Firestorm User Community. You guys are the best!!! Without you we wouldn't be celebrating today!!!"

While the event is over, people can continue to drop by and grab a couple free gifts. Head to Fiewstorm Dow Forest at (219/229/3901). "Happy Anniversary Firestorm!"

There were other events going on, such as the Spoonful of Sugar charity event which started over the weekend. There will be more on that later. For those interested in checking it out now, head to SOS Uber Island (173/92/25).

The Newser's Anniversary Celebrated at The Vinyl

On Thursday evening, June 5 at 6PM, the first of the SL Newser celebrations took place at the classic rock club "The Vinyl" high above the HV Community sim.

BREAKING NEWS! SL Newsers is having a Birthday Bash at The Vinyl Museum at 6 pm until 8 pm SLT. Come honor our favorite reporter Bixyl Shuftan and his crew as SL Newser is another year older. Tonight's Theme is Newsers. Be a TV Anchor, or news reporter for a chance to win 500 $L and a free Newser Hat!

Tantari Kim was the DJ for the event. Was her Union Jack shirt a tribute to Dana Vanmoer, the editor of SL Newser's predecessor newsletter, whom was from Britain? Tantari says she was just trying to look cool for the event. Vinyl manager Skylark Lefavre commented that Tantari reminded her of a certain blue werewolf in a popular animated music video.

Throughout the event, Tantari was giving me the "roast" treatment with a series of Chuck Norris style jokes, "Bixyl Shuftan doesn't take a break from the news, the news takes a break from Bixyl Shuftan." "Walter Cronkite and Barbra Walters got together, had a son, and called him Bixyl Shuftan." There was also a joke or two from the crowd about me having a preference for investigating henhouses.

Also during the event, there were a few trivia questions given out about the Newser and it's predecessor paper Second Life Newspaper. Some could be a little tricky.

The 500L prize went to Becky "Sha" Shamen. She looked a little less like "fox news" and more like her stories were "hare-raising" though.

The events continue today at Gemma Cleanslate's beach at Thorstar at Noon, and then at Club Cutlass at 6PM, and at the Happy Vixen on Sunday at Noon.

For those wanting to check out this great Xanadu-style classic rock club, The Vinyl has events every Tuesday and Thursday, with two DJs performing 6-8 PM, and 8-10 PM SL time. The club was founded by Perri Prinz and RECoyote Mindes and currently managed by Skylark Lefavre.

Roadside Attractions: The Diners of Second Life, Part 2

Late last month, DrFran Babcock took a look at a few of Second Life's diners. Today, she's back with the second part of the record of her travels to see these tributes to these eateries of the 50s. Some are fairly new, others go back to the early days of the Grid. Some are just one of the attractions of their sim, others are the main attraction. But each has something to offer the sim-hopping traveller.

Book Island Holds Charity Event for Hurricane Sandy Victim

Book Island recently held a "Charity Trivia Contest" for a Second Life resident whom was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. The event was mentioned in a group announcement as hosted by Dedee Longfall, "Help Rain Weather the Storm."

We'll be hosting this event at our studio and we'd like to invite all of you and your friends to come over for an hour.  The event is for a lovely SL kitty and talented RL woman, Rain Ninetails, who lost everything in Hurricane Sandy.    There'll be plenty of off the wall trivia for an hour AND you can win prizes too!  Rain has  been a long time SL builder and much beloved member of the Trivia community in-world. Please stop by and join us for a bit of laughter, friendly competition, and a chance to help out an SL neighbor.  All donations go STRAIGHT to Rain :-)

Dropping by the event, there were about a dozen avatars over. The donation jar had over 110,000 Lindens at the time, or over 400 US dollars. All the while, Dede read out the trivia questions, in which the winners got prizes, "Back when stagecoaches existed as the pinnacle of transport, the seat immediately next to the driver was reserved for individuals acting as a guard. Such a strategic spot allowed the protectors to better ward off any bandits attempting to loot passengers." "Shotgun." "Shotgun!" "Shotgun!" "Riding shotgun  As engineering marched on into motor vehicles, the vernacular designation for the coveted spot stayed the same."

The tip jar will remain at Book Island, "it will stay here for the week. I'll put it on the dock." The event was held at Book Island (133, 2, 24)

A few other locations have held Hurricane Sandy benefits. Even World of Warcraft is getting into the act with plans to offer a "fire kitten" for sale with a promise the cash goes to relief efforts.

The Luskwood Skunk Update Party

Luskwood is a popular place, though some see it as one where not a lot happens. That wasn’t the case on Saturday August 6, in which to celebrate the upgrade of their skunk avatar, the Luskies threw a big party.
