Cartoon of The Day: Saber Teeth Troubles

Taken at one of DJ Tantari's parties. One guy had a Sabertooth avatar, with the teeth. And well, it had the usual problem of "clipping," making him looking at times like he stabbed himself.

A Busy Weekend

It was quite the weekend here in Second Life this past weekend. Friday June 19 was Juneteenth, a holiday in honor of when slavery ended in the United States. From 12 to 8PM SL time, the Premier Business Center would hold a Junteenth celebration party. Hosted by Jarden Alexis, there was music. There was trivia. And much like a real-life Juneteenth there was food. Unfortunately in virtual reality, you can't taste a thing.

There were also DJs playing at the Second Life Birthday celebrations. At 2PM Friday June 19, DJ Minty was performing some tunes at The Salty Saloon, the one stage in the Birthday's Adult-rated areas. She commented she wanted to "sexbang the Lindens" with some Ninja Sex Party songs among her 80s hits.

On Saturday June 20, DJ Tantari would play at the Golden Palms at 3PM SL time. The "Mix Vix" had made a special track for the SL23B, and was playing it for the group of fans and SLB partiers.

Saturday would also see the main horse races of the RFL Royal Ascot. Sunday June 21 would have the closing party at 1PM SL time with music from Gabrielle Riel. Near the end, fireworks went off. This would be the end of the last major event of the Relay for Life. While a few teams may hold smaller events, for most the Relay is over until next year.

It was quite a weekend. But with the Second Life Birthday, and other events this week, the fun continues.

The SL20B Music Events Wind Down

Over the past few days, the final music performances have been taking place at the Second Life Birthday area. On Friday June 30 from 7 to 8 AM SL time, DJ Tantari played to the crowd at the Mandala stage

On Saturday July 4, it was DJ MTV/DJ Minty's turn on stage at the Mandala, with a number of 80s hits.

Sunday July 2 had the last of the performances, such as this one at an Aboretum Music stage.

At the Aboretum Performance stage was a group performance by Blue Lion.

The last of the scheduled events took place at 11PM and Midnight SL time, the last one at the Oroborus by DJ Dave. There were no shortage of comments, "It's Second life adventures forever, continuing on and on ever renewing but still having that feel." "It's an absolute pleasure sharing this with you weirdos. You're my kind of weirdos."

While there will very likely be unscheduled performances in the next several days at the SL20B grounds, there will be no more planned in advance. Those who want to keep an eye out for the impromptu ones will need to keep an eye on the SL Birthday group. As for the exhibits, they will be up for several more days. The sims will remain open to the public until Tuesday July 11.

Partying At The Second Life Birthday

 *

There's plenty do see and do at the Second Life Birthday. There's a number of DJs performing at the stages, and I dropped by a few. On Monday June 20 at 9AM SL time, Grease Coakes was playing some music.

Grease's performance was at the The Vernian Rotunda.

On Tuesday June 21, DJ Tantari did her tunage at the Arboretum at 5PM, dancing on top of the sturdy metal DJ booth.

"This is GAME ON! The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world. So wake up, Mr. Freeman. Wake up and smell the ashes. -- G-Man (Half Life 2)"

"I have never felt so high, and maybe it's all a lie... but I am never gonna die, 'cause music makes me feel alive!"

DJ Tantari will perform again at the SLB on Saturday June 25 at 9AM SL time.

At The Steamworks at 10PM SL time, DJ Moff (MoffettMephit Resident) was spinning the tunage.

The One and Only Magic Moff On Stage at SL19B !!!

SLB only comes once a year and we have made it to SL19B !! Tonight i am proud and honored to present to you the one and ONLY Dj Magic Moff here to spin some of the best space/dark synthwave tunes on the grid!!   So come on down to Sl19B and lets party the night away !!

DJ Tantari Wins DJ Competition

Last Saturday, May 22, DJ Tantari was part of a DJ competition at the Spotted Kitty Club. It was her versus seven other DJs. At 5PM, it was her turn to turn up the tunage, in the way only she could. She would make it to the finals, and won. She got 3000 Lindens from the club, and a homemade large cookie from real-life family, for her win.

DJ Tantari's been a friend of the Newser, in the past giving her take on it with her "True Facts" and a music set she named in it's honor

Among those taking part was DJ Tantari, whose set can be heard here.

DJ Tantari at The Odd Ball

A few days ago, things at Tuna Oddfellow's Odd Ball were looking foxy as DJ Tantari was playing the music for this unique performance in Second Life.

Are Saturday nights meant for darkness or are the meant to help us get odd,. odd, odd? Why not both?

This is a Journey Into Sound with DJ Tantari. Tonight's Journey is - Dark Mode 2. I don't live in darkness. Darkness lives in me. Most people have no idea how beautiful the darkness is.
Featuring music by Elektranaut. ...
This mix is dark and dancy, full of deep, sexy bass.

DJ Tantari brought some of her fans into the set, some whom were less than prepared for this kind of experience, "Oh Em Gee! My eyes! What's going on here?!"  "Just remember the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," the blue vixen told him, "DON'T PANIC." "I'm not panicking. I'm not panicking AT ALL! *heavy breathing* Kidding aside this place is trippy.  I feel like I'm in a Deee-Lite music video."

Tantari would play a number of tunes in her "Darkness" set, such as Depeche Mode,  Gary Neuman, and Pink Floyd, "Any Pink Floyd fans? This next track is for you." "Huge Pink Floyd fan," the magician host answered. "Maybe this will tickle your brain in a good way." And Tantari began playing, "Shine On The Dark Side of The Moon" by Neptune Project, "Isn't this an awesome mashup?"

Eventually, the set ended, "Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world. All things break. All things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention. So go love intentionally, extravigantly, unconditionally. The broken world waits in darkness for the light that is you."

Weekend At A Glance

Plenty happened this weekend in Second Life. The Fantasy Faire was going on, including the dance event of the FF roleplay group Society of Extraordinary Explorers (SEE) in The Amethyst Rift (above) which raised a whopping one and a half million Lindens! This is believed to be the largest amount raised at a single event. Other events included the art exhibition opening party in the Confederation of Democratic Simulators featuring the work of Sanjeewa Kumara and Sujeewa Kumari of Sir Lanka and the late Artistic Fimicloud of the Sunweaver community, the fourteenth anniversary party of Furry Fashion, an episode of the Odd Ball featuring DJ Tantari Kim, and more.

More on some of these events later.

The Last Day of Second Life Birthday Events

Sunday June 24 was the last day, at least officially, for events at the Second Life Birthday grounds. And people had one last chance to enjoy the parties there. And there were a number.

At 8PM the night before, it was the "Live Music with Dance and Special Light Show" by "Tuna Oddfellow. It wasn't at one of the stages, but at a special platform over 650 meters in the air. For those who hadn't seen his "Odd Ball" performances before, it was quite an experience. For those interested, Tuna has recently resumed his Odd Ball. Instant-message him to find out when his performances take place.

At 12 Noon at the Cake Stage, DJ Tantari.played some tunes for the crowd. She played her "Space First Stage" set of music.

For about two hours, the high-energy blue vixen wowed the crowd with her sci-fi tunes.

Not everyone listening was on two legs. At one point a black unicorn showed up.

The exhibits were up and running as always, though the action was mostly at the clubs

By late in the night, the events at Stage North (above), the Central Stage, and even Stage Left wound down. The action was at The Cake.

At 11PM, people gathered at The Cake for the last official party, and in a sense the last hurrah.

DJ A.F.I. (Ladigirl Resident), a real-life DJ from Hollywood California, spun the tunes.

Besides the regular-sized avatars, there was a giant, and a large anthro dragon.

But regardless of how we looked, we were there for the same reason, to end the celebrations with a bang.

Among those there was cake builder Mikati Slade.

But all good things must come to an end. And at Midnight, DJ A.F.I. closed her set with a display of fireworks.

But while this is the end of the official events, this is not the end of "The Birthday." The sims will remain up and open to the public until July 1, and so most of the exhibits will remain as well (It always seems at least one guy jumps the gun and leaves right away). And there is the tradition of the "Cake Explosion," which will be sometime later this week.

"Happy 15th Birthday Second Life."

Music Track: DJ Tantari's "Newser 2"

(Click here if the above widget fails)

DJ Tantari's musical salute to the SL Newser, her "Newser 2" track.

"If I tell you a secret, will you promise to keep it keep it close to your heart and never tell a soul? Sometimes why you try, you fail, and you have no choice but to pick yourself up and try again.
I wasn't happy with how the Newser set came out, so I completely rebuilt it. The results are completely different. I think the flow is up to my normal standards at last, but it now has harmonic matching and key shifting. Once again, another set that is on the edge of my skill level. I hope you enjoy!

"I posted this once before, but by the third time I'd performed it, I realized I'd done some things wrong. So I deleted the original and posted this slightly later live set. Nothing but the best for you!

Reader Submitted: How to Broadcast from Anything

Almost a year ago, Tantari Kim, also known as DJ Tantari, sent in a reader submission, "How To DJ The DJ Tantari Way." In the article, she used MIXXX software for her DJing. But what about other software? There are some free commercial ones, notably the free version of Virtual DJ and Traktor and Serato, but they aren't made for playing to Shoutcast. In a reader submission she recently sent in, she describes how to enable them so that they can.

DJ Tantari Honors the SL Newser

DJ Tantari Kim, noted for her high-energy performance, has honored the Newser in the past, such as her playful "True Facts" ribbing of yours truly for our fifth anniversary. Not long ago, she did a music track in honor of the newsletter: Newser, "Dedicated to Bixyl. News is what somebody somewhere wants to suppress. All the rest is advertising." She had tried new things with the track, which played at the Happy Vixen's "Workin' for a Living" party. But she thought it needed improvement, and on Sunday August 13 came up with Newser 2 , "If I tell you a secret, will you promise to keep it keep it close to your heart and never tell a soul?" Well, some things do remain off the record. She played the song at The Ark to an approving audience.

DJ Tantari plays at the Happy Vixen every Tuesday night at 6PM SL time. Rock on Tantari.

Joint Sunbeamers/Meli's Maniacs Relay Event at Club Amarantha

Even with the Relay Weekend closing in, some teams are still having an event or two beforehand. On Sunday July 2, Team Meli's Maniacs hosted a joint event with the Sunbeamers at Club Amarantha. From 12 to 2PM, DJ Tantari played her "Pink Fox" set in honor of Artistic Fimicloud.

One amusing detail about the club was the bacon dropper. At the mention of the word "bacon," it would drop pieces of it onto the floor. It wasn't long before the floor became covered with the "meat candy."

Over 5,000 Lindens were raised at the event.
