Fimi's Memorial Treehouse Relocated

With the Sunweaver Community and it's land in an upheaval following the death of it's leader and main landholder Rita Mariner, there are some small bits of good news. Among them, whatever happens to Rita's sims, the Fimi Memorial Treehouse is safe, relocated to HV Community, the one sim on the estate that was owned by someone other than her.

This was the home of Artistic Fimicloud, the pink foxgirl in the early days of the Sunweaver community and Passionate Redheads Relay team, known as Stephanie Koslow in real life, an artist. Sadly she passed away from cancer in May 2008 at age 49.  But the community and Relay team remembered her, her treehouse preserved as a lasting memorial to her. Fortunately, Cynthia Fareshore had permission to move her objects, and so the tree, and the objects inside, were be able to be moved, " I took my time in edit and ctrl key looking move a bit find what wasn't selected , did that a number of times till finally had it all selected and slowly moved it over."

Much is still going on. Yours truly has been taking pictures of some of the land, though it seems the treehouse might not have already be the only thing picked up.  One club has announced it will be closing indefinitely, perhaps permanently. Club Cutlass and Club Squeaks are closed temporarily. The Happy Vixen, Club Zero Gravity, and Xanadu are going on as scheduled.

Stay tuned for more information.

Scenes From The Relay Track

A few more scenes of the Relay track. This picture shows what various sized contributions can fund.

The "Turtle Club." Whether or not this has anything to do with the Turtle Award given to Relayers who successfully complete one to nine complete laps in a Relay Weekend.

The Sunbeamers camp. We're not showing the whole thing, but here's the pink fox statue representing Artistic Fimicloud of the Passionate Redheads, who continues to inspire her neighbors years after her passing.

Just three days until the Relay Weekend, which is from Saturday June 8 to Sunday June 9, with the Opening Ceremonies starting at 10 AM SL time. But watch for smaller events on the track this week, such as the Tailgate Party on Friday.

CDS and Sunweaver Communities At the MoCA Fimi Exhibit Opening

How many people in Second Life are remembered after over a decade since they left? For the Sunweaver community, Artistic Fimicloud, artist and Relay for Life volunteer, is still well remembered thirteen years after her passing last month. A few days ago, an exhibit at the Confederation of Democratic Simulator's art museum with some of her paintings (and two other artists) opened. The opening party was attended not just by locals, but by members of Fimi's home community as well. It made for no shortage of conversation.

Weekend At A Glance

Plenty happened this weekend in Second Life. The Fantasy Faire was going on, including the dance event of the FF roleplay group Society of Extraordinary Explorers (SEE) in The Amethyst Rift (above) which raised a whopping one and a half million Lindens! This is believed to be the largest amount raised at a single event. Other events included the art exhibition opening party in the Confederation of Democratic Simulators featuring the work of Sanjeewa Kumara and Sujeewa Kumari of Sir Lanka and the late Artistic Fimicloud of the Sunweaver community, the fourteenth anniversary party of Furry Fashion, an episode of the Odd Ball featuring DJ Tantari Kim, and more.

More on some of these events later.

Announcement: Artistic Fimicloud Exhibit at CDS Museum of Contemporary Art

Please join us on Sunday, May 2 from 12 noon until 2pm for the opening of 3 new exhibitions.

Ground Fl: Retrospective of Artistic Fimicoloud's work
"Fimi" was the avatar for the real-life artist and cancer survivor, Stephanie Koslow. Her subject matter was her beloved Hudson River Valley, rendered in pastels.

"My art, my life, is about looking forward, never looking back – looking back serves no purpose but to break one’s heart when you’re walking a path as difficult as some of us do. So instead I look forward – to that next beautiful sunset on the river."

1st Floor: 2 Sri Lankan Artists, Sanjeewa Kumara & Sujeewa Kumari
We have the honor of presenting the work of these well-known Sri Lankan artists in Second Life, courtesy of Asmita Duranjaya. Kumari explores a dreamy surrealism, while Kumara is fascinated by earth and sky.

2nd Floor: 7 artworks from MoCA's Opening 2006 Exhibition

Music by Fimi's longtime friend, DJ Shockwave Yareach

Remembering Fimi

Saturday May 26 was the tenth anniversary of the passing of a noted member of the Sunweaver community, as well as the Passionate Redheads Relay for Life team: Artistic Fimicloud. Known as "Fimi" to her friends, she is still fondly remember. The party at Club Cutlass that evening was in her honor, the theme being "Pink For Fimi."

Many of the women, and a couple of the men, wore pink or partially pink outfits. Sabine Mcettigan, who ran the Readheads, was among those appearing at the party. DJ Snowbuns provided the music for the party. Among the songs was "Calypso," which was a favorite of Fimi.

There were a few items up for display, such as a Fimi Award given out by the Redheads, made in the image of a pink fox, Artistic being an anthro pink vixen. A little more about Fimi can be read in the article of the events in May 2017. Although she's been gone for years, and the Redheads folded, the Sunbeamer taking it's place, she is still fondly remembered.

Remembering Artistic Fimicloud

It was nine years ago last week that the "little pink fox" of the Sunweaver community and the Passionate Redheads team of the Relay for Life, Artistic Fimicloud passed away from cancer. Since then, the Redheads, and then the Sunbeamers have held memorial events in remembrance of "Fimi" as she was often called. This year, there were two events at the Happy Vixen and Club Cutlass. It was a chance for those who knew her to remember and a chance for more recent people to get to know who she was.

Two Sunbeamer Events: Joint Party With Mel's Maniacs and Artistic Fimicloud Tribute

On Sunday June 26, the Relay for Life's Team Sunbeamers held a joint event with another Relay team, Mel's Maniacs. The event took place at Club Amarantha, on the sim of the same name, lasting from 3PM to 5PM SL time. The majority of those showing up were from the Sunbeamers, but there were a number from the Maniacs as well. The other team was named in honor of a friend whom passed away from cancer in 2011, this season being their fourth.

Rita Mariner the Sunbeamer leader was there in her anthro "Pinkie Pie" pony avatar, her second avatar as part of her "Bid Me Pink" avatar challenge. As one can see in this screenshot, she still isn't thrilled about being in pink.

Dusk Griswold and Skylark LeFavre Djed for the first hour, and the crowd enjoyed the tuns, danced and joked a little. At one point, someone mentioned the word "bacon," and it started dropping from some contraption from the ceiling, "Did someone say BACON?" That got people saying "bacon" over and over again just to get it to drop more of the "meat candy," littering the ground with it.

The event would raise several thousand thousand Lindens, which was split among the two teams.

On Tuesday June 28 at 6PM, the Happy Vixen Beach club held a special event for Team Sunbeamers: a tribute to the noted late member of the Sunweaver Estates Artistic Fimicould, whom had passed away from cancer several years ago. Every year, the Sunbeamers, and before them the old Passionate Redheads. "I Relay for Fimi" became a tag worn by a number of members. Held every year, the event is usually held in late May around the anniversary of Fimi's death. But complications moved the event up a month.

This is a Journey Into Sound with DJ Tantari.  Tonight's Journey is Pink Fox - written for Artistic Fimicoloud, aka Stephanie Koslow.  We lost her to cancer in 2008.  The search for a cure goes on in her memory.  Never give up!  Never give in!

DJ Tantari played a new music set of hers, "Pink Fox," in honor of Fimi, whom was known by her pink vixen avatar. Tantari commented that she had put the set together in less than two days. Usually compiling a two hour set of tunes takes longer. So for two hours, various tunes were played, some about pink, foxes, and other subjects. She ended her set with one particular song: "Goodbye."

"In the end, all we can do is move on... and say goodbye....."

She will never return
Never again
Be part of what has once
Felt so secure
Just adored
As it is getting oh so cold

You know
You have to let it go
Don't cry
So hard to say goodbye

At the end, Tantari thanked everyone, "Thank you all for coming here tonight.  And tuning in.  And remembering with us."

As the Relay teams continue to hold events, they are also getting ready to build their camps on the Relay track, of which the sims have just been rezzed but have limited access only to a few of the Relay volunteers, such as the captains of the teams which have camps there, and the builders. The Relay Walk, also known as the Relay Weekeend, is on Saturday June 23 and Sunday June 24.

It's been seven years (May 26) since Sunweaver Artistic Fimicloud passed away after a struggle with cancer. Please come and help us celebrate and remember her. The party begins at the Happy Vixen Beach club at 4PM. Dusk Griswold will be the DJ for the event. Please join us.

Sunbeamer Exhibit at the Relay Track

With just a few days left before the Relay Weekend, the Sunbeamer's area at the RFL Dedication sim, at the north edge of the track, is just about done. Work on the ride in the center continues. Besides that, visitors will be able to see some scenes of the team's days as the Passionate Redheads and a memorial to Artistic Fimicloud.

There is still work to be done elsewhere. Some places looked done, others not. And the "Do Not Pass" yellow tape and the orange traffic cones placed around certainly gave the appearance of an area still under construction.

When the Relay Weekend takes place from Saturday July 19 to Sunday July 20, dont' forget to check out the Sunbeamer exhibit at RFL Dedication (70/146/22)

Southern Colorado Sim Due to Vanish

When Daaneth Kivioq of Relay for Life’s team “Passionate Redheads” suffered a stroke earlier this month, team members gave their support to their stricken comment in both well-wishes and an event held in his honor. But a few raised one question: “What happens to Daaneth’s sim, Southern Colorado?”

Sad to say, it seems the sim’s days are numbered. Talking to team leader Sabine McGettigan and team member Nydia Tungsten, the sim was paid for another month, but after that nothing, “More renters on the sim would otherwise help, but without a way to get them into Daan’s ... account, there’s just no way.”

Southern Colorado has been the location of a number of Relay for Life events by the Passionate Redheads, from weekly meetings, to music and dance parties, and more. Nydia’s zeppelin club, Little Dove, is there, as is Fimi Falls, named after a Redhead whose battle and end to cancer continues to inspired teammates, many whom know her only by stories.

If you’ve never visited the sim, by all means do so. There is much to see there, including the rental village sometimes overlooked by Relayers heading to events. But what draws many are the falls, which were one of the favorite locations of the late Artistic Fimicloud.
