 Kamida Delec decided to walk the length of the Relay track, "Looks like the track is about 9500 meters long. (That's 31,167.98 feet or 5.90 miles.) (I) started at Sunbeamers, ended at more or less the same spot."

 

 "Looks like some people are testing out their rides. They passed a few minutes ago. "

 Just a couple days until the Relay Weekend. Roos With A Dream has a winged unicorn at their camp, waving to passersby. 

 

 Ponies For Life had this balloon at their camp.

 

 The Sunbeamer camp has this cooling stating for those feeling hot and tired for running around the track, trying to get that cheetah award.

 From Journey Texan, "It was just another day of "pre-Relay" weekend antics, as the giant, pink tu-tu-wearing Godzilla tried to make a run for it on its equally giant Vespa after a jail break with Lumi in front of the Hope Floaters campsite."

 

Winding Up To The Relay Weekend

 

 As the Relay Weekend approaches. and more and more camps have been finished or almost done, some people are having some fun on the track, either looking around or doing things. Yesterday at Team ES's campsite, there was a small party with DJ Cryptto spinning the tunes.

 

At one point someone swiped his wallet. It was a case of missing Crypttocurrency. 

 

 There was also some dancing around at the Second Life Cheerleaders Squad camp.

 

 At one point I saw this float going down the track, from the Playdolls team. The team captain messaged me and saw me, saying they were taking full advantage of there being less lag before the weekend. 

 

 There's some great builds out there. See them when you can, before during after the big weekend.

Relay Track Update

 

 Several days after the Relay track sims opened to builders, the track has numerous builds up. Some are obviously halfway done. A few look complete, though it's possible the builders have some last minute adjustments. 

Among those in the middle of construction is the Sunbeamer campsite, at RFL Win.

 

 Some had some fancy ways of saying so.

Relay Weekend Today

 *

After several months, the high point of the Relay season is finally here: the Relay Weekend. With 36 sims, including the permanent American Cancer Society, there's miles of track to walk around, and many exhibits and campsites to see.

A number of camps caught my attention. At the RFL Hope sim was the Second Life Cheerleading Squad camp, and their tower, or "The Helix of Hope" as it's called. By clicking on a white sign at the base, people can add a small part to it. And all those parts added up. It stands almost 200 meters in height, close to as tall as the sim is wide.

In RFL Comfort, there was the camp of "Ata's Army." This Gold level team got my attention as they were gathered at their campsite, a team of kids, cubs, tinies, and ferals, "A group dedicated to protecting Wolf Mountain Academy and its students!  Chosen by Ata and her commanders to gather information, and attempt to help fight the creatures that go bump in the night." Sadly their leader Ata Howler (AtaZahra Resident) is no longer among them. One of the group told me her battle with cancer came to a sad end a few weeks ago. 

And in RFL Prevention is the campsite of the Sunbeamers. Some things are new this year, such as the "Hall of Heroes." But some things are a part of every campsite, such as the Memorial Garden. Most of the work was done by Cynthia Farshore and Shockwave Yareach, but others contributed as well.

Relay Track Sneak Peek: "No One Should Have To Fight Alone"

 

This is one sneak peak from the Relay track of which the message "It's no secret: the Relay for Life is about fighting back cancer at the community level. Second Life is our community, and SL is home to one of the largest and most successful virtual Relay for Life event ever coordinated.

"Our amazing community is why this works, and we are once again coming together to put even more Attention on Cancer during the 2022 season, our third year as a Relay team. 

"Join us throughout the 2022 fundraising season and at Relay for Life on Second Life on June 11 as we Celebrate, Remember, and Fight Back. Team Attention on Cancer welcomes you. We will walk with you. Because no one should have to fight, or Relay, alone."

The Relay Weekend starts tomorrow. Perhaps the most intense 24 hours in Second Life, those with older computers may want to tweak them to better handle the lag. But for those whose computers can handle it, it's also one of the most fun weekends.

Hopefest Begins Today

 

The Hopefest, "five days of SL communities building hope to support the Relay For Life of Second Life and the American Cancer Society," begins today. Taking place in three of the Relay Track sims, RFL Life, RFL Knowledge and RFL Manage, it offers an early peek at the Relay track, and a chance to have some fun before the big crowds (and lag) of the big weekend. 

There's plenty to do. There are the mega-raffles, for things to bid on such as a Premium account for a year. There are the silent auctions. There is the entertainment on stage. And there's the Linden Block Party on Friday June 10.

Going about the track, I came across a few ladies at their campsite. When I explained I was taking sneak peek pictures of builds, one laughed, "We're just getting started."

A Loved One Remembered At The Relay

 

After my announcing that I was dealing with some personal tragedy, prayers and well-wishes have come in from numerous readers, notably from the Relay and my neighbors in the Sunweavers and Angels.  Of Team Sunbeamers, with the picture, she was added to the memorial garden at the campsite exhibit. 

The idea of virtual worlds was a bit beyond her, but knew I had friends here, and the good they were doing. I'm certain she well appreciates it. Thank you.

RFL Weekend Track Sims Up

 *

The Relay Weekend is just a few weeks away. And in another sign of the approaching event, the sims of the track are now visible on the map. Counting the American Cancer Society and American Cancer Society 2 sims, there are thirty-six in total, in an "H" shaped pattern.

The sims (most of them) are currently visible from the ACS sims, for those who can stretch their draw distance enough. As of now, there isn't much more than the grass and the track on the sims. But this will soon change. Among those with camps is the team of the community the Newser has it's home office in: Team Sunbeamers.

The Relay Weekend is from Saturday June 11 to Sunday June 12.
