RFL: "Remembering Ren & Patty Flow

The beauty of a memory
Is that it will always be there
Like a coin in your pocket
You can take it anywhere

When your heart is heavy
And your eyes tear up
You can focus on a memory
And travel through the years

Your heart can visit happy times
When laughter filled the air
And the presence of loved ones
Will lessen your despair

So as you continue on in life
Take comfort as you go
In a lifetime of sweet memories
Of one who loved you so!

Alien at RFL Roos Saturday

In our "better late than never" category, on Saturday March 7, one of the Relay events was "Roos Saturday." It was a BYOK (Bring Your Own Kiosk) event, and if someone from another team showed up, a kiosk for their team would be rezzed.

Roos Saturday BYOK

Come join the Roos and friends at our NEW Saturday BYOK.
We're hanging out at Electric Avenue listening to DJ Vic Mornington and having fun from 12-2pm.
We'll put out a kiosk for every team that brings their wild spirit to help make cancer a thing of the past
King County (177,91,22)

There was the usual funnery and puns, this being a Roos event some funny Aussie songs included. And one resident was running around in an obviously inflatable "alien abjuction" costume.

[13:29] Ealwen Tenwe (Ealwen Resident): I think Melina likes being an alien
[13:29] Ealwen Tenwe (Ealwen Resident): Martian even
[13:29] Liandra Aries: Melina is being abducted by the worst alien abducter ever :D LMAO
[13:29] Bixyl Shuftan: *chuckles*
[13:29] Ealwen Tenwe (Ealwen Resident): `*•✿ ĢϊɠɠԼƐՏ ✿•*`
[13:30] Ninja Chef Lady Ren Flow (Ren Float): Hey - Kayla's not here...
[13:30] Vic Mornington: I think i hjavew that alein abducter attachment buried in this inventory somewhere lol

No word if there was a probing or not.

The Sunbeamer Air Show, And Other Weekend News

Pictures from Nydia Tungsten and Kamida Delec. This weekend saw the Sunweaver Air Show, which took place on both Saturday March 14 and Sunday March 15. While the details on how much was raised on Day Two are not yet available, for Day One a combination of 51,100 for the Sunbeamers and Roos With A Dream combined.

There were other Relay events, such as a live music performance by the Second Life Cheerleading Squad. Sadly not all the Relay news was happy as it was announced the upcoming Relaystock and Bid the Lindens Bald will be the last one as the Relay Rockers, the team behind them, will be folding at the end of the Relay season.

In other news, on Friday Linden Lab would announce a new Vice President of Engineering: Jerome Despret.

More on these, and other stories, later.

More On The Relay Track

Just a couple days until the Relay Weekend. Roos With A Dream has a winged unicorn at their camp, waving to passersby.

Ponies For Life had this balloon at their camp.

The Sunbeamer camp has this cooling stating for those feeling hot and tired for running around the track, trying to get that cheetah award.

More to come.

RFL Team Sunbeamer Meeting

On Sunday February 9 at 12 Noon SL time, the Relay for Life in Second Life's Team Sunbeamers had their pre-season meeting. Led by team captain Rita Mariner, and with two of "Roos With A Dream" present, there was a discussion about what to do, what events to hold, and some events that would be temporarily shelved.

Due to a viewer glitch, the table was invisible to me, so I remained standing.

Two weekly events came up, the Roos' one on Monday, and the Sunnies' Moon Dance for Thursdays at 6PM, once the Relay Season starts. One annual event that will definitely be held is the Sunbeamer Air Show, hosted by Cynthia Farshore on her Farshore Airfield in Sunlight Bay. The date has yet to be set as Cynthia is coordinating with an air squadron about when the best weekend will be.

It was also brought up that one recent Relay Weekend campsite of the team's was an award winner, and there were hopes of repeating that performance.

The Relay for Life's fundraising season for 2025, "The Magic of Hope," officially starts with the Kickoff on Saturday February 15.

Scenes From the Relay Track

With the Relay Weekend approaching, more camps have been completed. And the Newser can show more than just sneak peeks. Among the new teams is Team Scorn, led by Aldaris (Bawnty Resident). Their camp is at RFL Remember, and recently reached Gold level fundraising.

Another new team is Kitsunes For A Cure, led by Mattie Carlton, who is also a member of Team Sunbeamers. Their camp is in RFL Hope.

The Roos With A Dream team has recently hit the one million Linden mark. It's campsite, 110 Years of Relay, is at  RFL Knowledge.

But these are far from the only teams with campsites, there are many, as well as the Designer Sims.

The Relay Weekend is Saturday June 8 to Sunday June 9. But there are smaller events taking place across the various camps. Tomorrow for instance is the Tailgate Party.

The Sunbeamer Moon Dance

Thursday February 29 was not only Leap Year Day, but also the time of the Moon Dance, the weekly event by the Relay for Life's Sunbeamer team.

A benefit for the American Cancer Society! The dance starts at 6PM SLT goes to 8PM SLT every Thursday starting Feb 22th and runs through June 6th. You arrive at Sunweaver Space and grab a seat in the Columbiad Moon Cannon to be shot to the moon. There once you land on the lunar surface a kiosk in your team's name will be planted and dance a celebration of your moon landing with other teams. Tunes provided by a Live DJ who is not taking tips! Wants you to tip the kiosk instead.  Come rep your team.

Cynthia Farshore was the DJ for the event. She played a variety of tunes, from classic rock to 80s hits, and the 90s and 00s.  She wore a joint Sunbeamer-Team ACTS shirt, symbolizing her support of both top-performing teams.

Among the songs played were Australian-themed ones for the visiting members of "Roos With A Dream." They were their in their distinctive Outback wear, dancing away with everyone. The event was a BYOK (bring your own kiosk), and a number of teams had one there.

Near the end, fireworks went off into the sky, lighting it up.

Team Captain Rita Mariner, and Cynthia, thanked everyone for coming.

There were plenty of other Relay events that weekend, such as Fly for Life and Bellisseria for Life. But unfortunately the Newser was not able to get to them.

Go Sunbeamers! Go Relay!

Scenes From The Relay Track

Among the various camps, there is one item that two share. The Sunbeamer camp at RFL Advocacy and the "Roos With A Dream" one at  RFL Awareness share some water. This boat straddles both campsites, and has a flag at each end. As the teams have had a number of joint events, it does symbolize the cooperation between the two.

"Relay Streaming Media" at RFL Acceptance had a Hope Lodge attached to a balloon, like in the movie "Up."

This year's theme of "Hope Floats" got all kinds of interpretations by the teams. Usually it was boats or balloons. Fiona Fei's designer sim used the song "Clouds." Then there was the "Meli's Maniacs" team. They had a 50's style diner, with ice cream floats, at their camp at RFL Hope.

The camps will be intact until Thursday morning, which is takedown day. The "Flood Party" should be sometime on Wednesday, tomorrow.

Last Sunbeamer Moon Dance Tonight

For every Thursday, the Relay for Life's Team Sunbeamers have held their weekly Moon Dance. Tonight, with the Relay Weekend approaching, this will be the last such event this year. So for one final time for the "Hope Floats"season, the "Sunnies" invite everyone to take a ride on the old fashioned moon cannon and join the party at the Lunar surface. This is a multi-team event, and any Relay team can come by and have a kiosk set up for them for donations. Expect the ladies from the Outback from "Roos With A Dream" to drop by.

Oh, and don't mind the aliens, they're friendly (sort of).

The theme is Red and Pink, in honor of reaching Ruby Level, and Artisitic Fimicloud.

"Great music, but no atmosphere."

Scenes From The Relaystock

At the Relay for Life's Relaystock, the Woodstock tribute that ran on the weekend of May 12 to 14, there was a lot of fun to be had. While there might not have been sex and drugs, there was plenty of rock n' roll and general funnery as only the Relayers can deliver. On Saturday May 13, the Newser's Bixyl Shuftan was there to report on the goings-on of the team of the Sunweaver community, the Sunbeamers, and they, along with Roos With A Dream, raised quite a bit of cash for the American Cancer Society, and had a lot of fun doing it.

Sunbeamers and Roos Make Over 100K Each At The Relaystock, Relay Rockers Pass One Million

The Relayers had a lot of fun at the Relaystock Woodstock tribute. There were numerous teams taking part, as well as many live musicians and DJs. On Satutday night, it was the turn of two certain teams. At 6PM, DJ Cynthia of Team Subneamers would get on stage, dancing with a number of teammates to some classic rock tunes. At 7:30 PM, DJ Kayla and some from Roos With A Dream went on stage.

The results for both teams was a resounding success. The Sunbeamers raised over 111,000 Lindens that night, getting them almost to 900,000 L in total. Roos With A Dream did even better, netting 126,000 L for their set at the Relaystock stage. They were pushed to just shy of two-thirds of a million Lindens.

Then there was the host team, the Relay Rockers, of who had their team captain, Trader Whiplash, DJing on stage for the last set at 5PM on Sunday. By the very end, their team total had passed the one million Linden mark, getting the team into Emerald ranked fundraising, seventh place among the list of Relay teams.

We'll have more on the Relaystock soon.

Go Sunbeamers! Go Roos! Go Relay!

RFL Sunbeamers, Roos With A Dream, Teams Level Up After Medieval Fun Faire

On Saturday May 6, the Relay for Life teams Sunbeamers and Roos With A Dream held the Medieval Fun Faire at Caledon Downs. There were numerous activities from axe throwing to archery to racing. The high point was the concert at the end with DJ Kayla and the Roos.

While the event had somewhat light attendance, it did raise quite a bit of cash, thanks in part to some remote donations. A total of 170,826 Linden dollars was raised between the two teams, the Sunbeamers making 94,198 L and the Roos With A Dream getting 76,628 Lindens. This bumped the Sunnies to over 750K, and making Sapphire rank, and the Roos past a half million and into Jade. As of now on the team totals page (leaving out the Sci-Fi con), the Sunbeamers are number nine of 173 teams, and the Roos number 15.

Sunbeamer and Roos Air Show

Saturday May 29 was one of the Relay for Life's Sunbeamer team's main annual events: the Sunbeamer Air Show at Farshore Field in Sunlight Bay. For the past few years, it's been known as the Sunbeamer and Roos Air Show, due to "Roos With a Dream" taking part. The event was from 9AM to 5PM.

There were planes flying, and numerous warplanes on display at the airport. There was also bicycle blimp racing, the course set up by Shockwave Yareach and Cynthia Farshore.

There were also balloon tours of the area, courtesy of Skylark"Snowbuns" Lefavre. Other attractions included carnival games and rides, shooting at the dunk tank with a German 88, bumper cars, and more.

The high point was at 3PM when DJ Kalaya and a number of the 'Roos got on stage, dancing away, with numerous Sunbeamers and others in the audience dancing away, and sending donations into the kiosk. The two teams together would raise more than 60,000 Linden dollars that day, the totals announce by Cynthia.

Sunbeamer Airshow went well, We and the Roos would like to thank all that came and donated. We have totals of: Sunbeamers L$38,800 ; Roos L$28,050 for a two team effort of L$66, 850! Woot!

As of now, Team Sunbeamers has raised almost 655,000 Linden dollars, closing in on the next fundraising level. Roos With A Dream have raised just shy of 423,000. But both teams are far from finished. There are the Bid Me Events. There are the multi-team events like the Moon Dances every week and the Relaystock later this month. And of course in June there's the Relay Weekend when the teams walk around the track.

RFL Announcement: Tenth Annual Sunbeamer Air Show Saturday April 29

Welcome to the 10th Annual Sunbeamer Air Show & Roos With A Dream Dance

The Teams Sunbeamer's and Roos With A Dream welcomes you to the 10th Annual Sunbeamer RFL Air Show Fly-in on Saturday the 29nd of April between the hours of 9AM to 5PM SLT. Roos With A Dream will be performing on stage with DJ Kayla and The Roos at 3pm to 5pm to close the event!

There will be planes on display with information about them. Some Pilots will be on hand to give rides and flight demonstrations or you can just BYOP [Bring Your Own Plane] and stunt around yourself.

This year we have two major contest running. The Balloon Bicycle Race and a Bumper Car Contest! At either contest upon a donation to the American Cancer Society kiosk you then acquire a free bicycle powered balloon provided for each entry. You can not use one of your own in the contest unless it is the same thing that is being given. This makes for an even playing field. Also we require that only participants fly the course as non-players will cause the timers to be thrown off. The course runs through the sky were you must pass through rings spaced at intervals that vary in height and direction. Missing a ring causes a disqualified time. You may run the course as many times as you like hopefully bettering your time. Contest runs through the air show hours and the prize of a Aerial Outfitters Sky Skiff Airship will be sent to the winner at the air shows end at 5PM.

The bumper car contest is no ordinary contest, remember it's the Sunbeamers who are not noted as being a very sane group. The contestants may experience changing obstacles, exploding cars, and maybe even...cannon fire? Oh My. Yes the spectators are armed and willing. The contest will be in 5 minute runs with trophies awarded at the end of each. You can enter as many contest as you like.

There will be a carnival midway with a number of activities to participate in.
