Relay Track Sneak Peek

Taken at the Relay Track a few days ago. The Roos With A Dream were working on their campsite. What will it look like when it's done? Stay tuned.

Relay Track Sneak Peek: Steelhead Graffiti

Taken at the Steelhead Salmons' campsite. Someone did a little graffiti poking fun at the team captain, which got a response from him. Which leads to the question, do we start calling him "Fuzzbutt Ortega?"

Reader Submitted: Sunbeamers Prepare for Relay

With the 2026 RFL season fast approaching, the Sunbeamers team held a planning meeting on Sunday, Jan. 25.  Rita Mariner opened the meeting, attended by Cynthia Farshore, Shockwave Yareach, FluffyFoxy and Liska daLantros.

Rita will be sponsoring our (Relay Weekend) region, where we will be joined by Cure Chasers and Roos With a Dream.  Cynthia will be in charge of campsite construction. We discussed tentative plans for the design, which will not be revealed yet, as we don't want to spoil the surprise.

Cynthia will also be running the highly successful Air Show again.  Last year's event was well attended, with four aerobatic teams performing awesome maneuvers ovey rhe Roos.  This year's tentative date for the air show is April 18, but watch the Newser or the RFL of SL calendar for updates.

Other topics discussed included the annual Relaystock concert, Shockwave's annual Easter Egg Hunt, and Bid-Mes.  With off-season fundraising already putting the team at "Jade" level, it looks like the Sunbeamers are on target for another successful Relay For Life season.

SL Video: "Drivers of SL Grid Drive - Bonus Leg 'Relay For Life' (2025)"

From Zada Bury on August 4,  "This kind of "Bonus Leg" was happening after the regular drive. It was gone over the "RFL - Relay For Life" Event. I must say, about the massive content from the "old Linden Homes" , I have been pretty done. Also the Computer-memory was appear to be cluttered ... anyway the RLF was für me laggy and not rezzing right mostly." At 0.59 is a certain familiar face.

Reader Submitted: The Ertina Loopen Memorial Foundation

Every Relayer has a story behind them. Sometimes they do it as it's a good cause. Sometimes as a show of support for others. Sometimes the reasons are very personal. And sometimes even the most comical of us have a sad story to tell. Journey Texan dedicated his campsite to a close late friend, Ertina Loopen  It this article, he describes his tribute to her.

After another great season, the Relay for Life in Second Life is almost about to experience its high point of the year: The Relay Weekend. Described as the most intense 24 hours of Second Life, there are dozens of camps across 36 sims, here's several of them.

The camp of Roos With A Dream, the fun-loving Aussies & friends who have done much with the Sunnies.

The Meli's Maniacs camp (watch out for singing chickens)

And finally the camp of the Sunbeamers, built by Cynthia Farshore and Shockwave Yareach with the help of team captain Rita Mariner and others, "Rita had to drag me away ... to get me to stop."

The opening ceremonies start at 10 AM, with the Survivor & Caregiver lap at 11, and the team laps start at Noon SL time.

Relay Track Sneak Peek

From the Sunbeamer camp at RFL Win. As the "little team that could," the Sunbeamers are proud of their record. So they, or rather we since I'm on the team, fly the flag high.

Relay Track Sneak Peek

Taken at RFL Remember. The Meli's Maniacs team have been hard at work on their campsite. It's not finished yet, so we can't show most of it. But we can show their "under construction" sign.

More to come.

The Last 2024 Moon Dance And The Sunbeamer Camp

Last night, Thursday June 6, the Relay for Life's Sunbeamer team held the last of their weekly Moon Dance events. It was held in the lunar surface high above Sunweaver Space. I arrived with Charlee in time to hear DJ Cynthia Farshore play a number of Big Band tunes and other music from World War Two.

Cynthia would later tell me earlier she had started off with the first known recording of a human voice, in 1860, "I played recordings through the decades 1860, 1878 (Edison little lamb) 1898 cylinder and the various music from 1903 to today covering each decade with several records ... D-Day did cross my mind but instead I wanted to end the Moon Dance in Relay Theme."

People from other teams, such as Purple Tears, Meli's Maniacs, and several from Roos With A Dream showed up. The Roos and Sunnies were in particularly good spirits, having reached Ruby and Emerald levels this week.

At 6PM, the fireworks went off, and the last song, "I Run For Life" played. People would say their goodbyes, and head out, "See you at the Relay Weekend Saturday."

At the Relay track at RFL Knowledge, the Sunbeamer camp was finally finished. Cynthia and Shockwave Yareach were the main builders for the place. In the middle is the "Carousel of Hope" showing how things have changed over the decades.

Most of the Luminaria had been lit up with tributes to Cynthia and Shockwave, Snowy Lefavre, Charlee Shuftan, and someone chose to honor the SL Newser.

Correction: I originally stated that the music at the Moon Dance was a D-Day theme. What happened was I arrived late, and that was what I heard.

Cartoon of The Day: The Busted Ice Cream Machine

Picture from Charlee Shuftan at the Maniacs camp on the Relay Track. Looks like the ice cream machine busted, and someone decided not to let it go to waste. But eating ice cream too fast comes with one small problem.

RFL Weekend: The Sunbeamer Camp

The Relay Weekend has arrived, and on the track many dozens of teams have their campsites set up. This includes Team Sunbeamers, who have their camp set up in RFL Advocacy.

With the theme this year being "Hope Floats," there are balloons that will take people to a few floating islands, each with information about cancer and treating it.

As with previous Sunbeamer camps, a big part of this campsite is the Memorial Garden, where numerous people who passed from cancer, including some particularly close to the team, are honored.

There is also the Hope Lodge. For several of the Sunbeamers, the fight against cancer is a personal one, either having suffered from it themselves, or having to care for someone who had.

It should also be noted that this year, the Sunbeamers didn't just build a camp, but were able to sponsor the sim.

By all means drop by today, and tomorrow, but don't forget to walk the track and see many other great campsites.

Go Sunbeamers! Go Relay!

The 2022 RFL Sunbeamer Camp

Last month, the high point of the Relay season, the Relay Weekend, took place. Dozens of teams had various campsites there. Among them was that of Team Sunbeamers. Yours truly took a few pictures of the camp while it was up. In this article, they're up to show what the camp looked like. But this wasn't just any Relay year for yours truly, and some commentary has been added at the end.

Relay Track Sneak Peek

Going about the track, I came across a few ladies at their campsite. When I explained I was taking sneak peek pictures of builds, one laughed, "We're just getting started."

Today marks the start of the "Hopefest," so check out the part of the track that's open.

A Loved One Remembered At The Relay

After my announcing that I was dealing with some personal tragedy, prayers and well-wishes have come in from numerous readers, notably from the Relay and my neighbors in the Sunweavers and Angels.  Of Team Sunbeamers, with the picture, she was added to the memorial garden at the campsite exhibit.

The idea of virtual worlds was a bit beyond her, but knew I had friends here, and the good they were doing. I'm certain she well appreciates it. Thank you.

Relay Track Sneak Peek: Maniacs Tribute

Violet Solano notified me of an "impostor" at the Meli's Maniacs campsite of the Relay track. When I got there, her response to my saying I found it was, "We figured you could use a laugh." Ginger (Dusk Griswold) would tell me, "Glad you liked your mannequin. (smile)  It was Vi's idea, but I let the club know what happened the other night, and we decided since you promote us in the paper, to add you. Vi did a great job on it."

So thanks to the Maniacs for their tribute to a certain online reporter.

Stay tuned for more details.

SL Video: " We Are One More Light"

RFL: The Sunbeamer Camp

The Hopefest has started, and the Relay sims are open to all on the Relay teams, not just those on build teams. And the Newser is now free to reveal the Sunbeamer camp at RFL Celebrate. The work was done by Cynthia Farshore, Shockwave Yareach, Snowbuns (Skylark Lefavre), and Rita Mariner.

As before, there is the Memorial Garden, located in the back. There are various personalities whom have died of cancer over the years from Humphey Bogart to Roger Moore to Don Adams, to Jim Varney. This year, noted talk show host Rush Limbaugh joins the list. And as always, there's a space for Artistic Fimicloud, a noted member of the Passionate Redheads (the precursor to the Sunbeamers).

What's different this year, "and now for something completely different," is "The Prince and The Spot Game." To play the game, get the bracelet from the giver at the front of the camp, then head to the starting point. What follows is an interactive tale of a prince whom finds a spot on his face that he hadn't noticed before. The plot has a Monty-Pythonesque tone to it. As you proceed, you make choices. Make the wrong choice however, and you won't so much as get a chance to say "not dead yet."

As of the writing of this article, Team Sunbeamers has raised over 817,000 Linden dollars. Can they hit one million (and make a certain fox live up to a commitment)?

The Sumbeamer Camp For RFL 2020

The Relay track for the Relay Weekend had many builds by both individual builders and the various teams. Among the campsites was that of the Sunbeamers. Since it's start in 2013, the team has always had a campsite, and 2020 would have it's seventh. So what was their camp like this year?

Read the story in Places.

Scenes From the Relay

Thursday June 4 had a few things going on at the Relay track. One was the chat with Safia Widdershins, whom talked to some of the Committee in RFL Acceptance, which was in the Bellissarian area.

Looking around afterwards, nearby was the Bellia Blues Cafe, a Linden Home made into a venue, with music and coffee.

Later, looking around with Matt Carlton, we saw the Seekers of Hope camp in RFL Courage. Sandy Slate told us the playable game in the camp was based on Settlers of Catlan.

In RFL Fight Back, we found a playable Mojong board, giant sized.

In RFL Healing was the Meli's Maniacs camp, based on the Stragego board game. Not playable, it symbolized the struggle with cancer, "It's not a game, it's a battle."

And the Sunbeamers finished their own build, with a build based on Monopoly and a memorial garden with facts on cancer. Check it out at RFL Hope (120/41/23).
