Giant Fox In Royier

 

 When I dropped by a Relay location in the Royier sim, among the things I noticed was a giant fox statue. It was looking over the hedge as if trying to get a better look. 

 

 Maybe someone told him there was a Kentucky Fried Chicken on the other side. Or perhaps, a fifty foot vixen.

A Busy Weekend

 

Quite a bit happened over the weekend. There was the Relay for Life's official season Kickoff (above).  There were also several other Relay events, such as the Battle of the DJs hosted by the Sugar Skols. There was the monthly HFOT benefit concert at Veterans Isle. There was the grand opening of the Black History Month exhibition at the PBC. There was the opening of Cafe Lilardo, and more.

The "Last Day of Relay Party"

 

 

 Picture from Wildstar Beaumont. On Sunday June 30, the final event of the Relay Season was held, the Last Day of Relay party.

 Our last day of Relay part continues at the Relay Stage  come on over and join us ....  the party continues until 7pm slt tonight!

 

It was a great Relay season with a total of 115,523,610 Linden dollars raised, or $462,094.00 USD. But people are already looking forward to the next one , starting at Feb 15, 2025. And between now and then are events like the Fandom Con, Making Strides, and the Winter Expo.

Relay Weekend: Day One

 

 

 Saturday June 8 was Day One of the 2024 Relay Weekend. For me, it started to a quick trip to the team Sunbeamer campsite (one avatar the viewer refused to rezz).

I then headed to the opening ceremonies. This picture is from the video, as my own of the crowd had too many naked and half-rezzed avatars. 

Then at 11 AM came the survivors and caregivers lap. Since I cared for my Mother following her surgery, I was in the lap. 

At 12:30 was the teams lap.

On the track were avatars from large ...

 

 To small ...

To four-footed ...

And many more. Some of which lagged at sim crossings. 

 

 There were some great campsites.

 

 And some had some interesting features, such as the Second Life Cheerleeding Squad's "Helix of Hope" which gets taller every time someone new clicks on it.

There was plenty to see, and may people to meet. And it continues today.

Officially, the closing ceremonies are at 10 AM, but there will be a victory lap and presumably small unofficial parties on the track. So come on and join the fun.

The "Turtle Club." Whether or not this has anything to do with the Turtle Award given to Relayers who successfully complete one to nine complete laps in a Relay Weekend.
 

 

The Sunbeamers camp. We're not showing the whole thing, but here's the pink fox statue representing Artistic Fimicloud of the Passionate Redheads, who continues to inspire her neighbors years after her passing.

Just three days until the Relay Weekend, which is from Saturday June 8 to Sunday June 9, with the Opening Ceremonies starting at 10 AM SL time. But watch for smaller events on the track this week, such as the Tailgate Party on Friday.

Relay Sims Open

 

 

 Yesterday, early Sunday AM on June 2, the sims making up the Relay Weekend track were opened. While many campsites were finished, still others had some work to be done. 

The Relay Weekend is from Saturday June 8 to Sunday June 9. But there will be smaller events on the Relay track this week. This includes a "Tailgate Party" on Friday June 7

RFL Track Sneak Peek: Floaty Frog

 

 

 Taken at the RFL Weekend track. While walking down the brick road, I saw this huge frog balloon floating in the air over it's campsite. Apparently it wasn't just looking for flies, it was flying after them.

 

Addition: Kamida would say on Discord, "That frog is HUGE, you can see it from two sims away!" Someone else would make a Terry Pratchet reference.

RFL Track Sneak Peek: Space Bar

 

 

Taken at the Relay track. With the theme being Decades of Hope, someone had a retro-future space bar reminiscent of 1950s space movies. Gives the term "moon pie" new meaning.

Taken at RFL Manage. While Team Timesville is getting its build ready, they set up some construction equipment at their campsite. It made for some interesting scenery among the empty plots and half-finished builds.

Recently Bixyl Shuftan met up with Relay for Life Team Lead Gem Sunkiller. Recently named "Woman of the Year" by the Newser for her work for the Relay this year and previous years, she has been with the Relay for over a decade. Gem talked about her first days in Second Life, how she found out about the Relay, and more.

Nuala Maracas' Birthday

 

 Tuesday was the real-life birthday of Nuala Maracus, a noted Relayer. And Trader Whiplash threw a "surprise party" for her at his "Legends" club. A number of Relayers showed up, or in one case, sending his alt. As it turned out, the birthday girl herself did the DJing.

A number of "Roos With a Dream" showed up, though without their characteristic Outback gear.

 

There was a little talk about a corvette in the area, Arizona Ballinger saying, "It is equipped with a cam so Fuzz can't drive it." Trader mused, "I leave it there to tease Fuzz. ... After Arizona dumped the ice from the zamboni on the biker gangs, it was suggested NOT to ride it on the track anymore." Arizona chuckled, "They were not a happy group." Lady Ren 'Jinx' Flow (Ren Float) joked, "Just tell them 'Chill!'"
