Giant Fox In Royier

When I dropped by a Relay location in the Royier sim, among the things I noticed was a giant fox statue. It was looking over the hedge as if trying to get a better look.

Maybe someone told him there was a Kentucky Fried Chicken on the other side. Or perhaps, a fifty foot vixen

You can see the fox at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Royier/54/172/80

It Came From Fantasy Faire Chat: Stuck Frog

With the Fantasy Faire sims finally closed, on Wednesday May 8 there was much chatter in the group, and a few pictures shared that day. Among them was one by Alia Baroque of one of the giant frogs at this year's Faire, stuck between two rocks.

Scenes From The Fantasy Faire

There's quite a bit going on at the Fantasy Faire. At the Fairchylde, I saw four people holding up "Winter is Coming" signs. Were they "Game of Thrones" fans, or perhaps a hint of what is to come?

There's usually a giant avatar somewhere at the Faire. One night, I saw her dancing next to the Fairchyle.

Not all of the action I saw was at the party ship. The "Children of Stories" roleplay is going on, this year, the tale is "The Desert Foxes." A quest to try and find a hidden library in hopes of finding a cure for Desert Fever led them to a mysterious door ...

The hidden library was found. But to the disappointment of the group, the books were all blank, and the guardian had lost it's memory, including of what happened. So the search continued.

Stay tuned for more scenes of the Faire.

Cartoon of The Day: Big Fox

Taken at the Relay Kickoff. In SL, one can make their avatar more or less as big as one wants. So how would this happen elsewhere? I could think of a few possibilities.

It Came From Bellisseria: The Giant Richard Simmons Cutout

Yours truly was taking a relaxing sailboat ride through the waters of Bellisseria when I came across a certain sight. I was sailing through Too Salty when I noticed something big over the stilt houses. As I got closer, it was a giant cutout of 1980s and 90s physical fitness personality Richard Simmons

Exactly who put that up, and why, I never did stop and find out. Though the sight of it may leave some "Sweatin to the Oldies."

Still Around: Boardgame Beach, Giant House, Animal Crossing Sim

Remember when we wrote about Boardgame Beach a couple years ago? Deciding to check it out, it's still around. And so are all of those games. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Dragon%20Nest/123/134/23

So is the giant house at Once Upon A Time at the Oxygen and River sims. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/River/224/103/1534

And so is the Animal Crossing sim at Retroville. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Retroville/110/190/32

Not every place we reported on over the years has stuck around, but these three have. Which others did you want us to check on? Leave your comments below.

Dropping By The Giant Snail Races

The Giant Snail Races are one of those "only in Second Life" events. They were a feature in Second Life's heyday, and years later today, they're still around. RacerX Gullwing is still running them, these days in Gullwing Shire near the tiny community of Raglan Shire.

Dropping by Saturday October 1, the theme for the races was Medieval, with the snails in princess, dragon, and knight costumes. As usual, the races took place through an obstacle course that included jumps, a maze, and going up a ramp dodging rocks rolling down. There was also a Best in Show competition in which the audience could vote for the best snail costume, and RacerX gave the folks a chance to try for a few Lindens by getting into a ball and getting into a giant pachinko machine.

The first race was won by Alden Cortes, followed by Niuanya, Dorie Bernstein, and Cally Kane. The second had Cally Kane as the winner, followed by Niuanya, Alden Cortes, and Dorie Bernstein.

The Giant Snail Races take place every Saturday (with some possible breaks on a few holiday weekends), usually at 10:30 AM. There may also be an "Anything Goes" race during the week in which contestants run the course without snail avatars.

Interview with Fop (KingForri), Giant of Natoma

So how tall was the tallest avatar you've seen in Second Life? For some residents who haven't been around much, they may not have seen avatars much taller than they. For those who have explored some and been to some notable events, they may have seen an occasional macro that can get to be around fifty feet tall. And then there's the avatar of Fop (KingForri). Encountered at the Natoma sim, he easily stood over the Ivory Tower. Yours truly got in contact, and he had a few things to say.

Giant Avatar at The Ivory Tower

Going by Natoma the other day in one of my Rezz alts, I saw this huuuuuuge avatar. There's a running joke about many Second Life residents wanting to be above average in height to the point in reality they'd be seven foot tall basketball players. Some take things a little more, going for eight or nine feet. But this guy was the size of a mountain, even crouched down, towering over the Ivory Tower of Primitives. He was well over a hundred meters in height.

His name was Fop (Kingforri Resident). As it turned out, I'd seen him once before, at the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Natoma's "The Man" statue. But before I could message him, he was gone.

Such avatars are impressive, but highly impractical. Without chat extenders, you can't talk to anyone. You can't really interact with anyone. So most likely Fop only appears like this once in a while. So outside the Fantasy Faire, it's rare you'll encounter a mega-macro avatar like this.

Cartoon of The Day: Big Snake

Taken at the Second Life Book Club. Someone had a huuuuuuge snake avie that was brought out when the show was winding down. Most snakes don't care that much for people, but apparently this one was an exception.

Standing Tall At "Conception"

Taken at Burn2 Conception. This particular Burn2 spinoff event was noted for "The Man" built as a female shape. But it wasn't the only lady standing tall. Builder Andrea Jones appeared in a Colussus avatar, towering over everyone else at the art and music festival.

And no, the DJ didn't play "Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman."

Scenes From the Fantasy Faire

The Fantasy Faire continues with plenty to see and do. Among the sightseeing was this guy on the floor. How did someone get so big and how did he end up bones in the rock? Who knows.

Scenes From the Fantasy Faire

Among the sighs at FF Valhalla are a pair of huge statues at the mouth of the river there, well over a hundred feet high. They would dwarf most other avatars. But this giant lady stands tall over them.

The huge avatar was easily seen from all the way on the other side of the sim. I usually see giant avatars at least once at the Faire. A reminder it isn't just the landscape that's the attraction. Some of the other visitors' avatars can be too.

Reader Submitted: "Attack of the Giant Woman" At The SL Newser SL16B Exhibit

From Treminari Huet. King Kong may be enormous. But as part of the scale model of the SL Newser's SL16B Exhibit, not so big compared to a regular avatar. So Treminari decided to try and one-up Kong. And then came a girl on a Colossus avatar who could make the "Fifty Foot Woman" look small.

Watch those flag Ma'am ... okay, you can step on the North Korean and Iranian ones.

Cartoon of the Day

From a picture of Nydia Tungsten's office sent by JB Raccoon. There's been numerous jokes about Australia's wildlife, such as "the big effing spiders." When someone uploaded a video of one having caught a mouse, that made it even more so. While the meme "Everything in Australia is out to kill you" may not be true, the size of the spiders are enough to discourage tourists.

Taken at the Happy Vixen. Where Little Spirit Raccoon and JB Raccoon got these "bodyguards," who knows. But one wonders how they struck a deal.

"Livin' Large" at Club Cutlass

At Club Cutlass last Saturday, things got a bit on the giant side as DJ Geerkil, whom is in his dragon avatar almost all the time, was joined by a few of his wyrm friends. Plus Becky Shamen switched to a Colossus avatar.

I didn't hear any "Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman" jokes. Though as she was wearing shorts, none of the guys got a chance to upskirt her.
