"T'was The Night Before Christmas," SL Style

 

T'was the night before Christmas and all through the box, people built houses with doors that had locks. The Mods were complacent, all snug in their chairs, with dreams of tomorrow without any cares.

When out on the roof there arose such a clatter i sprang from my build to see what was the matter...   the moon on the flat of the fake sandbox sand... told me the mods all had it in hand... when what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a flat color skinned man on a flying case of beer... he was dressed all in lace and wearing a tube... i knew in a moment it must be Saint Noob.

As the 6-pack roared by in it's three sets of pairs... Saint Noob started dropping his default prim squares... and i heard him exclaim as the mods had him banned... "Count on my ALT coming back to this land!"

Montecito Bay Whispers

 

I recently had a few words with MoffettMephit (aka "The Moff") of Montecito Bay. The community's number one resident told me they've been doing well, the twice a week parties and the shopping at the shops and gaming at the arcade going well. But there have been some stories not all is well under the surface. Most notable are tales of some mad scientist.

"I hear there's a lizard scientist working on teleportation technology.," Moff told me, "And this scientist intends to unleash it upon Montecito Bay!" I inquired about him and his plans, and Moff answered, "His name is hard to pronounce because it's all numbers, planting things in places that'll take you to other places. It's all very unsettling." I then asked which places. Moff answered that all he knew was "to the places that people want to go. Sounds pretty sketchy to me. But really, things have been quiet around here. I mean, unless you wanna get really weird." I asked if such weirdness included a time-traveling Delorean. Moff grinned, "There's already one 'round here, really."

So exactly what kind of teleporter will this supposed mad lizard scientist unleash? Time will tell.

Tales From Gaming : "L Is Real"

It's easy to believe rumors about games and gaming came about only when the World Wide Web made the Internet accessible to the masses. But even in the days before, there were still tales of secret rooms and characters you could unlock if you did a certain thing. In his article today, Cyfir (Cyfiremmerich) talks about one such rumor in which it was believed that in Super Mario 64, the character Luigi could be unlocked and played. As it turned out, the rumor wasn't entirely untrue.

"As you know, once in a year, the Xmas Glider arrives to gift you with sweets and all the good things!

But remember, only those who dutifully build their Snowman and deliver it in time will receive the Xmas Glider's blessing!"

The old man raised a warning finger.

"Those who deny are not safe for the Xmas Glider will come and bite their nose!

And this is why you see so many red noses in winter."

And that was the truth.

Tales From Outside SL: Plagued Doctor at the Furry Con

While the following story doesn't have much to do with Second Life, it does involve a resident of our virtual world. JB Raccoon told the Newser about a friend of his, who wishes for now to be known as only "The Attendee," who went to a 'con in an unusual costume. For a couple days, all went well. Then he was stopped by one of the 'con staff who had objections to some props on the outfit that hadn't been a problem before with him and with others no one was raising issues.

Seanchai Library at "Scare Me Silly"

Corwyn Allen tells a spooky tale to an audience at the Water Haven sim as part of the Seanchai Library's two hour event on Sunday October 22 from 1 to 3PM at Team Diabetes' "Scare Me Silly" event. Besides Corwyn, Join Aoife Lorefield, Dubhna Rhiadra, Caledonia Skytower, and VT Torvalar also had some scary stories.

Tales From Podex: This Is Goodbye

"All good things must come to an end." We at Second Life Newser had a fun time doing the advertisements for our longtime sponsors, the Podex Exchange. One reoccurring theme was "Clumsy Cooper," the raccoon robber whom tried again and again to steal money from the place, and failed every time.

Sadly, Linden Lab made their doing business here impossible, so they had to move on. But Clumsy Cooper was just too good a character to just stop writing about without some closure. And so, we close our "Tales from Podex" with one last appearance from the burglar.

Ghost Stories at Steelhead

On Monday October 26, a few of Steelhead's residents headed back to the old estate area for a little ghost storytelling. The place being abandoned seemed to add a little to the eerie feel from the darkness, Halloween being just around the corner, and the spooky specter that was circling nearby.

Riven Homewood entertained the small group which had gathered near the fire with a couple spooky tales,  "Connon Alberecht's Scrapbook," and "The Sandman."

With the Steelhead Estates facing deletion any day by Linden Lab since the beginning of the month, the community has largely moved on to Ravenwood Forest . Still, residents are still coming back to see their old home while it still stands. It's possible this may be one of the last events held there.

Tales From the Ghost Forest – LEA14

DrFran Babcock had a chance to check out an exhibition at the Linden Endowment of the Arts area, "Tales of the Ghost Forest." Created by Uan Ceriaptrix, this land is a combination of the "familiar and alien." The artist describes a place in which humanity has left the planet, and new life is taking over, with alien beings watching.
