Christmas Tales From Second Life

When out on the roof there arose such a clatter
i sprang from my build to see what was the matter...
the moon on the flat of the fake sandbox sand...
told me the mods all had it in hand...

when what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but a flat color skinned man on a flying case of beer...
he was dressed all in lace and wearing a tube...
i knew in a moment it must be Saint Noob...

as the 6-pack roared by in it's three sets of pairs...
Saint Noob started dropping his default prim squares...
and i heard him exclaim as the mods had him banned...
"Count on my ALT coming back to this land!"

Another Christmas Carol -

Be good and build your snowman

And it was that time of the Year again.

"Be good Children!" the old man said

"As you know, once in a year, the Xmas Glider arrives to gift you with sweets and all the good things!

But remember, only those who dutifully build their Snowman and deliver it in time will receive the Xmas Glider's blessing!"

The old man raised a warning finger.

"Those who deny are not safe for the Xmas Glider will come and bite their nose!

And this is why you see so many red noses in winter."

And that was the truth.

Reader Submitted: Snowman Smashed in Caledon Downs

"This just in. As previously reported earlier today. Another snowman was found deceased early this morning by a local pub owner. The owner stated that there has been no crime this year except for the occasional barrel of rum going  missing. We have received a follow up report that another snowman was apparently a victim of a hit and run in downs. Inspectors are looking into the matter."

Frisky The Snowman

And now, a story on the lighter side. Most of you are probably familiar with the gag of men using cheesy pick-up lines to try and get women to go out with them. To some, it's funny. To others, it's creepy. The joke came out in force with Nydia Tungsten's "Twisted Christmas" and the introduction of "Frisky the Snowman" at the Happy Vixen. Although he looked harmless, he would continuously spout one come-on after another as the girls groaned and joked about how to melt him down.

Read the story in Extra.

Cartoon of the Day

From the Happy Vixen. Among the Christmas decorations set up by Nydia was "Frisky the Snowman," who drops one cheesy pickup line after another. After a while, it started getting on the nerves of some of the girls, whom talked about creative ways of disposing of Frisky.

The Snowman Contest and the Holidays For Hope Ball

This weekend, the Relay Expo had a few last events. One was the snowman contest, of which the winner was declared on Sunday December 13. Later that day was the high point of the festival, the Holidays for Hope Ball. Second Life Newser was at both, and took a few pictures.

Steelhead's "Snowball's Chance in Hell" Party

On the night of January 17 high over Port Harbor, the Steelhead community threw a snowball, or rather their "Snowball's chance in Hell" party.

It was a night of fire and ice with some detailed and imaginative costumes.

The music was provided by Willow Leafstorm for the event.

The event was mixed with a building contest. Who could build the best snowman in theme with the event?
The first entry was from Blue Lacroix, a melting snowman under a sun, with a rose and a smile, with a sign, "I melt for you."

The second entry from Dhughan Froobe was a snowman in a rowboat over flowing lava. He's struggling to keep his boat afloat, the title being "Oh Hell, need moar duct tape."

It's unclear who won, but like other Friday Night bashes, the Steelheaders had lots of zany fun.

Snowman Building Contest in Steelhead

Being a community where mad scientists are respected, Steelhead has seen many interesting creations. Question is, what would these creative minds do when asked to make a snowman? Well, the steampunk community is about to find out, as leader TotalLunar Eclipse has announced a snowman building contest.

The rules are, "Fifteen prims per snowman you can enter up to two times. The winner and runner up will have their unique snowman displayed in front of town hall until the snow thaws for all to see." "It could be anything you want it to be, except lewd." So any creative designs inspired by "Calvin and Hobbes" are acceptable, if not encouraged.

Those entering the contest are asked to drop their snowmen (or snowwomen or snowbeast) at Steelhead Port Harbor (96, 111, 1028). This will be the location for Steelhead's Friday Night dance this week, the theme being "A Snowball's Chance in Hell." Which may be a hint as to what happens to the losers.

McDunnough’s Skating Rink and Ocean Key Winter Wonderland

By Gemma Cleanslate

I found two more enchanting skating sims. McDunnough’s Skating Rink has a lovely ice castle and as you skate by if you enter there are dance balls too. There are trick skating, solo, and couple pose balls. And if you still need free skates there they are.

The trees and decorations are lovely . Warm your self by the fire and have some hot chocolate. Pick up a snowball thrower and have a fight. Take a ride on the ice carousel. Watch out for the giant snowman tossing snowballs at the skaters constantly. Put it on your list of skating places to visit. http://slurl.com/secondlife/McDunnough%20Island/183/90/21

Next stop is romantic Ocean Key Winter Wonderland Couples Ice Skating with Santa. While I was skating I passed an intelligent polar bear reading the Sl Newser. Take picture on Santa’s lap while surrounded by teddy bears and elves. Santa has a snow ball thrower there for you too. A singing elf will entertain you if you tickle him.The ballroom is visible from the skating rink and looks divine. In the sky I saw some private dancing areas too.

This is an extensive area with many places to visit so I will be going back to check out the twelve  tp locations including shopping... my downfall!  Start here and watch out for the penguins!  http://slurl.com/secondlife/Ocean%20Key/178/192/21  I am still on the lookout for more skating areas for you . Winter is just beginning!

Winterfest Fun at GOHA

I have been so busy, I was not able to get over to the Winterfest in GOHA until today. The whole place looks wonderful! Since the events were starting later in the afternoon, I set off to find some of the activities that were around for amusement when events are not taking place.

The first place I found was a spectacular skating pond with skaters merrily performing lovely skating tricks. It is not that hard. There are solo and couple skating animation balls at one end of the rink. I took a try at it and it was easy. I set off to find the area for the snowball fights. That is one of the events I do not want to miss!!! It is great fun tossing snowballs at the Lindens! My thoughts went back to last year. There are so many faces I will sorely miss! My hopes are there will be some Lindens I know there.

The place that indicates the snowball fight is also a place to rezz a sled for a downhill ride. It is a good thing they have barriers there, or I would not be writing this! The pond at the bottom is frozen over and the snowball servers are all set up!! You will love the sims at GOHA. Before I left I came across a snowman building contest in the town square. Really cute!

Take a trip over and see all there is to do! This is a wonderful site for Winterfest! - Neutral Zone (132, 141, 60)

More to come!
