Linden Snowball Fight This Friday

For those wanting to toss a little "Christmas cheer" at Linden Lab's finest in the form of a snowball, or just in the mood for a good snowball fight, now's your chance. It was recently announced in the Linden blog that the next Linden (and Mole) Snowball Fight is this Friday, December 15. Or rather, two fights. The first will be at 8 AM SL time, and last for an hour (at least officially). The second will be at 12 PM SL time.

‘Tis the season for some snow-slinging shenanigans at the NEW Winter Wonderland Snowball Fight Arena!

Get your warm clothes and throwing arms ready - it’s time for a Lindens and Residents snowball fight! This snowball showdown means you're free to pelt your fellow Second Life Residents and Lindens with a bevy of sparkling snowballs - launched fresh from the snow-arsenal available at the arena.

The battles take place on Friday, December 15th from 8am to 9am PT and then again from 12pm to 1pm PT. Spots are limited, so be sure to get there early to grab your free snow-launching weaponry from the vendors around the arena.

Mark your calendars, assemble your dream squad, and be there!

While the snow scraps officially last for an hour, people often linger for longer.

Remember, the fun is this upcoming Friday, December 15, at 8 AM and Noon SL time.

The Linden and Residents Snowball Fight

Yesterday, Monday December 19, was the day of the Linden and Residents Snowball fight. The fight took place with the Lindens scheduled to be there from 10 to 11 AM and 2 to 3 PM SL time. Yours truly never did get into the first session, which had about a hundred people around. People were saying in Bellisseria chat that with the lag, they couldn't fire their snowball launchers. Instead I waited until the second one.

I finally got in about a few minutes before the hour was up, and all sorts of things from whales to buses to presents to yellow snowballs were flying. People were clustered around a bridge, and this was about as close as I got to it. Snowballs would either launch you into the air, or freeze you in place for a while.

Hours later, the Lab would show a video of some of the chaos that took place

Yours truly would have a little fun, eventually going to a castle and successfully defending a tower for a while until my screen turned black and I had to reboot.

Most years, there are two Linden Snowball Fights, one in December and the second in late winter. As of now, no date has been announced for the second. But in the meantime, the Snowball Area is up for anyone in the mood to toss a few snowballs.

Scenes From The "Snowball Showdown"

On Friday November 15, the "Snowball Showdown" took place at the Snowball Fight Arena. From 11AM to 1PM that day, the snowballs flew at the area designed for friendly melees in the Winter Wonderland location. The area was accessible from the Portal Park sim. Once at the arena, there was a board describing the two or three weapons available, depending on whether one had a regular or premium account. For regular accounts, the riffles offered rapid fire, but the pistols fired rounds that would toss someone in the air. One would click on the display of weapons to pick up the snow gun HUD.

I arrived a bit late, so didn't see any Lindens. But there were still a number of residents pelting one another in the arena, with plenty of places to sneak around, or fire from above.

Another Luskwood Fox whom just landed after being launched in the air. For those who missed the melee, don't worry. Last winter there was a second Snowball Snowdown a few months into the year.

Linden Snowball Fight Today

There's no argument that the Lindens do a lot of good, but don't you get the urge sometimes to just throw something at them? Maybe scoop up some snow and pelt them with a few snowballs? Well, today's your chance. From 9AM SL time to 10AM, and again from 1PM SL time to 2PM, Linden Lab will be having one of their snowball fights, or "Snowball Showdown" as they've been calling them lately, with the residents at the Winter Wonderland arena, accessible through Portal Park

Spring Equinox is coming - even if the East Coast of the USA didn’t get the memo - and we can’t properly bid adieu to the chill of the Winter winds without another epic Snowball Fight!

That means it’s time for one last Snowdown Showdown - before the snow melts! Join us this Friday, March 17th from 9:00 to 10:00 AM SLT and 1:00 to 2:00 PM SLT - to enjoy the thrill of the chill and the fun of pummelling one another with tons of virtual snowballs!

Lindens and Residents run amok through the icy castle towers and tunnels, the sky pours snowballs, and the good times roll!

Mark the time and date in your calendars and don’t miss this last chance to enjoy the Snowball Fight Arena before the Winter Wonderland regions come down
The Linden Snowball Fight/Snowball Showdown, has happened about twice a year since December 2015, and no doubt allows for a little fun and/or release of friendly aggression. The teleport to the Winter Wonderland is at the Portal Park area.

Scenes From The "Jolly Holiday Crawl" And The Linden Snowball Fight

A week ago, on Monday December 19, the "Jolly Holiday Crawl" took place across several locations across Second Life. Organized by Linden Lab, the venue crawl turned out to be a hit with the residents. But one could do more than just talk to the Lindens. At the "Snowball Showdown," better known to the residents as the Linden Snowball Fight, the frozen missiles flew.

The "Jolly Holiday Crawl" And "Snowball Showdown"

Remember the "Creepy Crawl" Linden Lab organized on Halloween? It seems the event's been such a success, they're doing a Christmas-themed venue-hopping event, the "Jolly Holiday Crawl,"combined with the "Snowball Showdown."

It’s beginning to look a lot like the holidays have taken over a good portion of the grid. Everywhere you look, there’s snow, lights, and so many wintery delights that all you can do is sip a peppermint latte and smile. And then join us for some thrillingly chilly fun festivities inworld on Monday the 19th, starting at 10 am SLT and ending in a snow-flinging frenzy where Lindens and Residents can frolic in an ice castle, pelting the hail out of each other at the Snowball Showdown!

The Crawl goes from 10AM to Noon SL time, taking place at four locations with half-hour intervals. The places are "The Arctic Express," "Kate's Whirl," "The Winter Ice Christmas Festival," and "Frisland."

Following the Holiday Crawl comes the "Snowball Showdown," which in previous years was called the "Linden Snowball Fight," taking place at Linden Labs' Winter Wonderland area. The location of the place has yet to be published by the Lab, though in previous years it was accessible from Portal Park so it can be assumed the snowball fight arena can be reached from there: Portal Park 1 (175/118/52)

Reader Submitted: Scenes from the Linden Snowball Fight

Thanks to the computer glitch that took out my screenshots, There's not much I can say about the Linden snowball fight at their Winter Wonderland other than I was there with my friend Lexine, and tossed a few snowballs at a number of Linden Lab's finest. Fortunately Zada Bury had taken a few, which she sent me a few links to.

There were a number of Lindens there from the popular Xiola Linden to Rider Linden, whom flew around on a sledlike gear (Xiola joked it gave him an unfair advantage, but it also marked him as a target as no one needed his tag to know who he was), which spun in a spiral when going down, to Shaman Linden whom was in some kind of giant snake avatar. There were also a few personalities such as Kenny Luckless and Marianne McCann.

At the end of the scrap, everyone  was called to the bridge where we posed for a group photo.

Hopefully next time I'll have a few pictures of my own up.

Last Linden vs Resident Snowball Fight For The Season This Friday

"One Last Friendly Battle Before the Snow Melts"

If you've ever wanted to pelt a frosty one right on the kisser of one of Linden Lab's finest, but either missed out on earlier chances or are still aching for another shot, you'll be getting another chance. Tomorrow for two 2-hour periods, the snowballs will be flying at the arena in the Winter Wonderland area. Xiola Linden announced the event in the official Second Life blog.

We have to take advantage of the snowball fight arena at the Winter Wonderlands region before the snow fully melts - and we want you to come have ice-hurling fun with us on Friday, March 25th, from 10 am - Noon SLT and 2 - 4 PM SLT.  If you missed the last snowball fight now is your chance to come pelt some friends and Lindens with soft, fluffy balls of frozen fun. Grab your snow-launching weapons from the kiosks, get some practice in, and be sure to make the trek to the top of the ice castle to take in the amazing view.

To get to the Wonderland head to Portal Park 1 (128, 210, 23), walk into the building with a blue portal, grand permission to "animate your avatar," then after you're ported you'll be in front of signs pointing the way to a few locations. Go east, and then north, and then walk until you're at the sign that announces you're on the area grounds.

Happy (Linden) hunting.

Ready for Winter

Gemma Cleanslate continues her explorations across Second Life, looking around for Winter-themed areas. She came across some more, and gave them a look. The three places she describes today are a bit different, one intended as a memorial to a late friend, another offering a train ride, the third horse and carriage rides, but all of them offer good frosty fun.

McDunnough’s Skating Rink and Ocean Key Winter Wonderland

By Gemma Cleanslate

I found two more enchanting skating sims. McDunnough’s Skating Rink has a lovely ice castle and as you skate by if you enter there are dance balls too. There are trick skating, solo, and couple pose balls. And if you still need free skates there they are.

The trees and decorations are lovely . Warm your self by the fire and have some hot chocolate. Pick up a snowball thrower and have a fight. Take a ride on the ice carousel. Watch out for the giant snowman tossing snowballs at the skaters constantly. Put it on your list of skating places to visit. http://slurl.com/secondlife/McDunnough%20Island/183/90/21

Next stop is romantic Ocean Key Winter Wonderland Couples Ice Skating with Santa. While I was skating I passed an intelligent polar bear reading the Sl Newser. Take picture on Santa’s lap while surrounded by teddy bears and elves. Santa has a snow ball thrower there for you too. A singing elf will entertain you if you tickle him.The ballroom is visible from the skating rink and looks divine. In the sky I saw some private dancing areas too.

This is an extensive area with many places to visit so I will be going back to check out the twelve  tp locations including shopping... my downfall!  Start here and watch out for the penguins!  http://slurl.com/secondlife/Ocean%20Key/178/192/21  I am still on the lookout for more skating areas for you . Winter is just beginning!

White Fight

The snowball fight between the Lindens and the residents of SL was a riot as usual! Yes, there were numerous Lindens who made it to defend their honor. Huge piles of snow flew through the air tossing avatars into the sky at times. Some used bazooka throwers.

Torley was at the Thursday fight but I missed him. Spider Linden was there Friday morning and as the fight progressed he grew bigger and bigger! Tiggs Linden was a tiny and hard to hit. Blondin was present as usual as was Jeremy. Oz and Log Linden took part also. There was a micro fox moving so fast no one could possibly hit him. I could not even read his name!

The fight went on for a long time and the Lindens and participants moved from Break Away sim into Empty Net and back again. However, I did hear one say “I have a button here that would determine the winner anytime.” The fight continued long after the Lindens went out. Everyone had a wonderful time at both fights, Thursday night and Friday morning. There were missing Linden faces that flashed by my eyes: George, Blue, but all in all the Lindens defended themselves well.

Winterfest goes on. Check out the destination guide for all the activities there.

More Winterfest Fun

Another visit to the Winterfest in the Neutral Zone to see the Art Exhibit landed me right next to my favorite SL artist . As soon as I saw the interactive piece I knew it was Feathers Boa's. The twinkling art she is displaying on the first floor of the Fine Art Exhibition Hall is fitting to the spirit of Winterfest. Be sure to walk into the art itself and see the changes that take place around you.

One piece is a sparkling snow flake that morphs as you pass around it and into it. Another is a crystal heart that changes into gold as you approach it. Some of her old familiar pieces grace the walls . You cant miss the building . It is in the Town Square right next to the directions arrows to take you to the events.

As usual the events were later in the day so the next thing I tackled was the Snow Maze. Great fun! There is a sign on the roof that says “No Peeking!” LOL. I spent more time there than I meant to because there are lots of nice freebie boxes and vendors inside the maze. I picked up a few outfits and some gestures. I was tempted by the free hotel but resisted. Go get those goodies!

The first snowball fight is at 4:00 pm SL time on Thursday and the second at 8:00 am on Friday. I plan to make both if I can! I already picked up my free snowball thrower and practiced a bit.

You have the entrance to the town square for the Art Exhibit so here is the entrance to the maze. By the way, the maze is based on the film “The Shining!" Jack Belvedere, owner of the sims, told me he had to clean up all the gore before doing the snow maze.

Have fun!

Winterfest Fun at GOHA

I have been so busy, I was not able to get over to the Winterfest in GOHA until today. The whole place looks wonderful! Since the events were starting later in the afternoon, I set off to find some of the activities that were around for amusement when events are not taking place.

The first place I found was a spectacular skating pond with skaters merrily performing lovely skating tricks. It is not that hard. There are solo and couple skating animation balls at one end of the rink. I took a try at it and it was easy. I set off to find the area for the snowball fights. That is one of the events I do not want to miss!!! It is great fun tossing snowballs at the Lindens! My thoughts went back to last year. There are so many faces I will sorely miss! My hopes are there will be some Lindens I know there.

The place that indicates the snowball fight is also a place to rezz a sled for a downhill ride. It is a good thing they have barriers there, or I would not be writing this! The pond at the bottom is frozen over and the snowball servers are all set up!! You will love the sims at GOHA. Before I left I came across a snowman building contest in the town square. Really cute!

Take a trip over and see all there is to do! This is a wonderful site for Winterfest! - Neutral Zone (132, 141, 60)

More to come!
