Valentines Day

It's Valentine's Day, the day for couples to celebrate for love, and for the single but hopeful to look for a date (and for the permanently single to spent time in shooting game marathons). Be sure to be on the lookout for special events around the grid, such as the "Love Train" at Bellisseria, and the "Hug a Linden/Dunk a Linden" at the Isle of View. Clubs such as the Happy Vixen have themed events today, bu by all means be on the lookout for others.

And be wary of cupids who may want to shoot arrows in your behinds.

RFL Announcement: Relay Rockers Announce 2021 Event Dates

The Relay Rockers, RFL of SL’s oldest team, kicks off its 17th season by announcing the schedule for its signature fundraising events in support of the American Cancer Society.

The team will once again host the Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back (CRFB) Top DJ Competition, Bid Me Bald Team Challenge, Bid The Lindens Bald and the popular multi-team RelayStock.  The Rockers are also planning their Blues for Life, Hard Cure for the Cure and Country fair events.

The CRFB DJ Competition begins March 27 with preliminary rounds through April 24th. The competition is open to Club DJ and Radio Presenters who are challenged to raise funds for the Relay For Life during one hour sets.  The Top 4 competitors move on to the May 1st & 2nd semifinals rounds with the 2 remaining DJs performing in the Finals at RelayStock May 14, 15 & 16. The event, which has been held since 2012, has raised nearly L$10 million in support of the ACS. Entry forms will be available at the team website: https://relayrockers.org/ beginning on Feb 20th and is limited to the first 20 DJs to sign up.

The Bid Me Bald Team Challenge will be held April 9th through the 17th and is open to all Registered RFL of SL Teams.  Teams fund raise to “Keep Their Hair” with the last place team pledging to go bald until RFL 2021 Weekend, June 13 & 14. Teams share kiosks with the Relay Rockers during the event.

Bid The Lindens Bald will be held during the Rockers annual multi-team RelayStock weekend, May 14 -16.  Teams of Lindens and Moles compete to outraise each other and again the last place group pledges to ‘shave’ their heads until Relay weekend 2021.

Some Details Revealed on The SL17B

On Friday, Patch Linden and several Moles appeared at the "Lab Gab" talk show. After introductions, the first topic discussed was the Second Life Seventeenth Birthday celebrations.

Of the theme, Patch explained the "theme will be 'Vacation and Road Trips.' Other than that, we cannot share too much information." Of when will it open, the "Soft opening" would be on June 18, when the sims are open to those in the Second Life Birthday group. June 19 is the full opening in which everyone can enter. The event's end date is yet to be determined.

Exhibitors will have more parcels this year. They will also have more freedom to design their exhibits as there will be less of an emphasis on building within the theme. Still, keeping with it is encouraged.

Applications for the event will be "coming out every couple weeks for the next month and a half," starting Feb 28 with Musicfest.

There will be more cross-promotion between the SLB and the shopping event. The shopping event itself will have eight sims.

Patch answered a couple questions sent in by residents. One was will the Cake Stage and Stage Left from the days when the SLB was resident-run be coming back. Patch responded Stage Left is still around, renamed as Main Stage. Of the Cake Stage, "We just decided to diverge and diversify. ... But you never know. We might decide to bring something like that back. ... if it fits somewhere at some point, it can come back, "I don't know if it will be this year".

Another question was if the SLB would have an adult section. Patch's answer was, "That is something that we put some thought in to, and it may happen. We still have some logistics to work out ... when it comes to different types of content that are rated at different levels in proximity to one another. That's one of the things we have to ... figure out. It's not a 'no,' but I don't have a firm 'yes' on it."

Mischevious Mole had this to say about the SL17B, "It's really about and focused on the community of Second Life. We want to encourage everybody to participate. In the past, it has very much been 'let's do exhibits based on the theme, let's do programing based on the theme, and this year, whatever your passion is.' Please think about how you can bring it to (the) Second Life Birthday and share it with everyone else."

There was more talked about afterwards on the Linden Homes and other subjects. To see the video of the whole Lab Gab, Click Here.

In the Relay for Life Volunteers Group, a few of the dates for this year's Relay season were announced. The one for this month is registration for the Relay, which is January 20.

RFL of SL 2019 Registration is January 20th!  Help us get the word out, through your groups, friends, and even social media! This is going to be the best Relay ever! If you would like to arrange a meeting between RFL Leads, yourself, and someone you know who might be interested in forming a team, sponsorship, partnership, etc?. We've attached a notecard to help you with your conversations

There was also a reminder of last year's announcement that this would be an earlier Relay season, with the Kickoff in February and the Relay Weekend in early June.

There are great things in store for Relay For Life of Second Life! Some of the important dates to remember are listed below. Let's keep those dates fresh in everyone's mind, spread the word around the grid.

Registration-January 20, 2019
Kickoff-February 16, 2019
Five Days of Relay-June 3-7, 2019
Relay Event Weekend, June 8-9. 2019

In September, Stingray stated the decision was made after talking to other volunteers, who felt that more people were logged in earlier in the year, so they would be more likely to get more donations in an earlier season.
