Jenni Greenfield Stepping Down From Cutlass, Taking Break From SL

 

Jenni Greenfield has been a familiar sight at Club Cutlass, the main club of the Sunweaver community for many years. But she recently announced she will be taking a break, possibly a permanent one.

 

Had to make a hard decision, but decided to hang it up with SL. The reasons for this is my health is declining, and I have actually become bored with the internet. As you may know, I was recently in the hospital, and they misplaced the meds I took with me. they said they would set me up with new prescriptions, but they seem to be having a problem getting them through. Without them, I have medical issues and a near total lack of energy. Thank you all for putting up with me all these years. 

 

Talking with her, Jenni wasn't sure if this was a hiatus in which she would be back, eventually, but a lasting one, bringing up her lack of energy.

 

Hopefully her health problems will resolve soon and she'll soon be back.

Update on The Patch Linden Jail And Bail Today, Friday May 8, At 11 AM

 

It seems Patch Linden, or simply "Patch" as he's being called, will get his goodbye party after all.

 

Patch Linden's Jail and Bail had already been postponed twice. Then his dismissal from Linden Lab seemed to doom it. But the entry for his scheduled one on Friday May 8 remained unchanged. Then this morning, the announcement had changed to the following:

 

 Friday, May 8th, 11AM – 1 PM SLT on The Golden Hour

One more for the road! Let us take this opportunity to welcome a new (but oh so familiar) friend to the Fairelands. You may think Linden, but we say Pawtato. Either way it’s still the same old Patch so whether you are coming to say farewell or welcome, grab a friend or two and come party with Patch!

 

So it seems the event has been changed from a jail and bail in which he was offering perks from Linden Lab to a farewell party. Once again, at The Golden Hour sim in the Fairelands at 11 AM SL time.

Hangars Liquides Cyberpunk City Set To Close Soon

Some sad news for fans of sci-fi themed sims. According to New World Notes, the "Hangars Liquides" sims will be closing at the end of the month.



The area, now consisting of five sims of tall buildings high in the sky with a gritty, run-down theme, what owner and creator Djehan Kidd called "Cyberpunk City, Technopunk, Dystopian Noir," has been in Second Life since 2007. In 2014, it was featured in a video in The Guardian. But unfortunately, a change in the Terms of Service mean that as a nonprofit, the sim can't rent spaces to help pay for it's upkeep. “As a cultural nonprofit organization,” Djehan explained to Hamlet Au, “Second Life has become unsustainable for me. Several months ago, I was told that the new Terms of Service for nonprofits did not permit us to offer rentals anymore; as a result, the city couldn't pay for itself any more.”

According to Hamlet, Djehan has been in contact with Linden Lab, and there is talk about making Hangars Liquides an exception to their new rules. But as of now, there's nothing agreed upon. Unless something changes, the city will close at the end of the month.

Breaking News: InWorldz Virtual World May be Closing

In a long statement from InWorldz owner Beth Reisch, she announced that the virtual world may soon be closing down.

"... this is probably the hardest post I've ever written about the state of InWorldz," she stated, then gave a rundown of the gridlock that had put a stop to paying the bills, "what all of this means is very simple: Without payment from the funds sitting in the UCC liens, RackSpace will be shutting our servers down. I've extended our servers out until Friday, July 27. I can not process cashouts, no payments may be sent out. For that, I'm truly sorry."

There are reports that Reisch is trying to pull a last-ditch attempt to save the virtual world. But her chances of success are uncertain.

Brandi Streusel Leaves Second Life, For Now

For several years, Brandi Streusel has been a presence in the Sunweaver community. Early on, she was painting motorcycles. But her work soon caught on for her line of clothing, notably her undergarments, which became known as "Brandi's Panties." She became a close friend to Nydia Tungsten, and eventually the two partnered. Brandi would help manage some of the Angel sims, and help with many of her videos.

Sadly, the Sunweavers will have to do without their beloved mousegirl. Yesterday, on July 4, Nydia announced Brandi had left Second Life.


Brandi Is Taking A Break

Due to certain circumstances, Brandi has left SL for an indefinite period, and I hope she can feel comfortable coming back soon. 

It is hoped that Brandi will soon be coming back to the virtual world, and the community where she has many friends and admirers.

Whatever Happened to ... ? Club Fur

Readers may have noticed that Club Fur, on the record as the oldest furry-themed clubs, is no longer on the Newser's SL Clubbin' schedule. The reason is, not only is it inactive, it is no longer part of the Sunweaver Estates, which provides the land for the paper's office, or anywhere else in Second Life. Club Fur has been removed and back in the inventory of Alynna Vixen (Alynna O'onthrera Trypnotk). And Alynna hasn't been inworld since May.

Club Fur has had an interesting history, going back to 2004 according to Alynna. At one point it was described as being removed from an old location less than two minutes before the place was "flattened." It was in Furnation for a time before it ended up in Alynna's hands in 2009, whom eventually took it to Kitsuhana sim where it was reopened in November 2010. In June 2013, the club moved back to Furnation following the reopening of the sim. But in November 2014, Alynna brought the club to the Sunweaver sim of Sunweaver Bay, soon moving to to Sunny Beach where it would remain for a little while until Alynna's items were packed away earlier this year.

The club was known for it's bright neon colors, it's symbol was a neon tube shaped into a cat's head. During it's time in Kitsuhana, there was an effort to make the club active by the "Furry Club Alliance," but the stepping down of a few personnel made regular events just too difficult. It did take part in some events such as when the world failed to end on December 21, 2012. The club was also duplicated in InWorldz for a time.

While there is of course the possibility the club will come back, when something vanishes in Second Life, more often than not it's for good. While it's sad when any club vanishes, it's especially so in this case as this one had lasted so long, and for a time was part of the community yours truly calls home.

Pearl Harbor Memorial Offline

This Memorial Day, while there are a number of places to visit to reflect on those whom died in service to the American military, the USS Arizona Memorial is not among them. The Oahu sim where it was located was offline, and while it's still listed in Search, recent traffic registers as zero. The sim has been taken offline. Unless the sim owner can bring the place back online, it seems the memorial to the famous battleship sunk at Pearl Harbor joins the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which went offline sometime in 2011, among those noted places in Second Life now visible only through past records.

The USS Arizona Memorial, a replica of the real-life memorial in Honolulu Hawaii, has been in Second Life for several years. On December 7, 2011, there was a memorial service to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Japanese Empire's attack, which resulted in America's entry into the Second World War. The remainder of the sim was a Pacific island themed residential area in which visitors were free to relax on the beach.

Insilico Offline, Owner Skills Hak Banned

Some sad news for science-fiction roleplayers in Second Life. The popular Insilico region, mentioned in media such as the Drax Files and written about by the Newser last year, has been taken offline. The reason, it's owner and primary builder, Skills Hak, has been banned from the Grid by Linden Lab.

Skills, whom has been involved in controversies such as being among those Linden Lab asked to resign from the Emerald Viewer team just before it collapsed in 2010, has stated she feels this will probably be the end of her activities in Second Life, at least under her current identity.

I had a good run. 8 years on this account and the timing of my ban couldn’t have been better. In fact my boyfriend was really happy to hear about my final ban since i am spending too much time at the computer and i am going to be a mommy soon. It was a wild ride, thanks for everything.

Some good news for Skills, Linden Lab is compensating her for the ban.

... i’ve been emailing back and forth with Linden Lab for a bit and i just agreed to accept a one time payment that will recoup my losses (although, technically i didn’t lose any money). It was more than i expected, they showed good faith and i will leave them alone now, promise.

In New World Notes, where the story was also reported on, several readers reminded about another community that had been offlined, Steelhead, due to it's owner being suspended for completely unknown reasons despite not being involved in any controversy, and paying more in tier than Insilico.

As for Insilico, their blog stated negotiations were in progress for a transfer of ownership to keep the region of several years alive. But the last post made suggests they might not proceed and the area could be allowed to pass away. Regardless whether one considers Skills Hak a hero or villain, the Grid is facing the loss of another prized region and community.
