Sunny Beach and The Gathering Oak
After a short break, Penny (Deaflegacy Resident) is back doing articles. For her most recent story, she was invited to the Sunny Beach sim in the Sunweaver Estates. The place is run by Erik Mouse with a little help from Becky "Sha" Shamen. So what goes on here? Penny was able to find out some details.

Redwall Abbey at Sunny Beach
At the Sunweaver Estates, the home region of the SL Newser, there's a new building going up at the Sunny Beach sim, the "Redwall Abbey."
"Heads up on news from Sunny Beach," Becky Shamen told me, "We have begun building Redwall Abbey on the SW corner of the sim. The build will take time, but should generate interest in the sim and Sunweaver Estates. It's from a feature length animation about a Medieval fury community. I'm piecing together floor plans and building the whole abbey complex on Sunny Beach."
Taking a look on Youtube, and Wikipedia, I found the Redwall Abbey is from "Redwall," a series of Fantasy novels aimed at older children and young adults, written by Brian Jacques, of which an animated TV series was based on. Twenty-two novels were published, the first in 1986 and the last a few years ago. The TV series first aired in 1999.Sunny Beach, also known as Mythica Woods, is owned by Erik Mouse, with Becky Shaman as an administrator.

The Gathering Oak
Becky Shamen reports on something new in the Sunny Beach sim. Several weeks ago, the "watering hole" or "gathering place" had a beach club built over it. But recently the owner, Erik Mouse, began wondering if something different was needed. So Becky decided to help out by getting and planting an oak at the spot. Here, she writes about "The Gathering Oak" and what it could be.

Whatever Happened to ... ? Club Fur
Readers may have noticed that Club Fur, on the record as the oldest furry-themed clubs, is no longer on the Newser's SL Clubbin' schedule. The reason is, not only is it inactive, it is no longer part of the Sunweaver Estates, which provides the land for the paper's office, or anywhere else in Second Life. Club Fur has been removed and back in the inventory of Alynna Vixen (Alynna O'onthrera Trypnotk). And Alynna hasn't been inworld since May.
Club Fur has had an interesting history, going back to 2004 according to Alynna. At one point it was described as being removed from an old location less than two minutes before the place was "flattened." It was in Furnation for a time before it ended up in Alynna's hands in 2009, whom eventually took it to Kitsuhana sim where it was reopened in November 2010. In June 2013, the club moved back to Furnation following the reopening of the sim. But in November 2014, Alynna brought the club to the Sunweaver sim of Sunweaver Bay, soon moving to to Sunny Beach where it would remain for a little while until Alynna's items were packed away earlier this year.
The club was known for it's bright neon colors, it's symbol was a neon tube shaped into a cat's head. During it's time in Kitsuhana, there was an effort to make the club active by the "Furry Club Alliance," but the stepping down of a few personnel made regular events just too difficult. It did take part in some events such as when the world failed to end on December 21, 2012. The club was also duplicated in InWorldz for a time.
While there is of course the possibility the club will come back, when something vanishes in Second Life, more often than not it's for good. While it's sad when any club vanishes, it's especially so in this case as this one had lasted so long, and for a time was part of the community yours truly calls home.

Reader Submitted: Codename: L.E.A.P.F.R.O.G.
While it originally started out as a hangout for occasional parties, Erik Mouse has recently made an effort for "Surf's Up" at Sunny Beach to have events once a week every Saturday afternoon. But the best laid plans of mice and men can go awry, and one party not long ago ended rather abruptly. Although things were soon cleared up, Erik felt that it was still necessary for him to explain what happened. So he recently sent in a reader submission about what happened from his point of view and his plans on what to do in the future.

Beach Party at Sunny Beach
Last weekend, the Newser crew took the time to relax with a beach party, and invited it's friends to come by. Taking place in the Sunny Beach sim just west of the Newser office, the party went on for three hours with lots of music and dance from Tantari Kim and Grease Coakes. A number of pictures were taken at the party.

Join The Newser Crew For a Party
After our beach party last month, the Second Life Newser crew received some requests to have another soon. Well, our neighbor Erik Mouse (Erik Mouse (ErikMouse Dawid) of Sunny Beach/Mythica Woods offered us his hangout there, "Surf City," for such an occasion. So we're taking him up on it.
The event will be tomorrow, Saturday August 27, at Noon SL time at Sunny Beach. Don't forget your swimsuits.

Mythica Woods
Among the Sunweaver sims, Sunweaver Air is what many visitors often see due to Club Clutlass. But the others get fewer visitors. Among these is the one next to both Sunweaver Air and HV Community, the home of the SL Newser office: Sunny Beach, also known as Mythica Woods. Becky Shamen took a look at the place, and the resident who owns most of the property there: Erik Mouse

PXL Promo
In real-life, the person behind Becky Shamen's avatar has been involved in a number of things. At one point, she took a try at designing a kind of air-filled structure that could be used to make floating builds on the water, as small as a toy or as large as an island or town. She recently did a few builds in Sunny Beach using virtual reproductions of the process. Then wrote about what would be involved in real life.

The New Sunny Beach
There's been some changes in one of the sims that make up the neighborhood where the Newser's office makes it's home: Sunny Beach. And the one whom ended up in charge of these changes was none other than the Newser's Becky "Sha" Shamen, after a friend of hers moved in and needed a little help shaping his new land. Becky describes some of the new features and attractions she built in giving the sim it's new look.

Winter Comes To The Sunweavers
With December now upon us, many sims across Second Life are taking on a winter look, with a fresh blanket of snow. This includes a couple of the Sunweaver sims: HV Community, where the SL Newser office resides, and Sunny Beach.
HV Community simply has a blanket of snow. It hasn't gotten cold enough for flowing water to freeze.
In Sunny Beach, which has fewer buildings, the land has more of a winter wilderness look, with Jasmine Dawn having done the landscaping. There's a leafless forest of dormant trees.
In the middle of the sim is a fire people can relax at and warm themselves, or they can head inside the cabin.
This won't be the end as our noted builder Shockwave Yareach has been building something of his own, which should be finished well in time for Christmas.

Newser Beach Party, Take Two
Okay, the first date for our beach party didn't go so well, the event having to be called off due to technical difficulties. So we rescheduled. If all goes well, the fun starts tomorrow, Saturday December 20, at Noon SL time. DJ Grease will be playing the tunes. The event takes place at the Happy Vixen Beach club in Sunny Beach, one sim over from the SL Newser main office building.

Angels Calendar Auction Raises Over 40,000 Lindens
The Calendar Auction held by the Angels group in the Sunweaver Estates for their calendar officially ended early Wednesday morning when Nydia Tungsten closed the bidding. The night before, the bids kept coming in, sometimes one moments after another. And when it was finally done, more than 42,000 Lindens had been bid for the various volunteers.
Nydia herself had put herself among those up for bid, and was fourth with 3000 Lindens bid by someone to appear in her calendar picture with her. Third was Tess with 3100 Lindens. Perri Prinz, the co-owner of The Vinyl Museum and popular classic rock DJ and sci-fi writer, was the second highest with 3300 Lindens. But a whopping 20,000 Lindens had been bid for Skylark LeFavre! That's almost as much as all the other contestants put together. Her bid had been made by Kazumi aka "Darkhorse."
All payments are due by the 5th, with the volunteers getting a cut, and the picture shoots will begin soon after the first ones are made.

Angels Calendar Auction
Guys, how'd you like a chance to pose next to a cute, shapely girl for a calendar pic? Girls, want a chance to get on a calendar next to a hunky guy? Well, now's the chance for both with Nydia Tungsten's "Angels Calendar Auction." Just head on over to the "Happy Vixen" beach club at the Sunny Beach sim. Volunteers like Jessicabelle Dayafter, Skylark LeFavre, and Pagan Sunfire, are up for bids. And Nydia herself has made herself available to pose with as well.
Nydia says the contest is going on for just two more days, with Wednesday being the final day for bidding. But she hasn't given what time the bids will be closed. So if you want to pose with a calendar girl (or guy), get those bids in!

Freebie Clothing and Avatar Shopping Mall Set Up At Sunny Beach, Sunweavers Estates
Are you looking for a new set of clothes but are a little short on Lindens, or perhaps just looking for a good deal? Well, you can't get much better than free. Nydia Tungsten has set up a temporary freebie shopping mall in the western half of the Sunny Beach sim in the Sunweaver Estates. Rita Mariner told the community about the place on Friday night.
Sunnies: If your a female and would like a whole lot of free clothes, courtesy of Nydia Tungsten, get your booty over to Sunny Beach and grab them from the Freebie Mall, while it it up. Lots of really cool stuff to be had. It will take some time to grab it all, there is a lot of stuff.
"Also male clothes and avatars," Nydia corrected. There are hundreds of free items here. The clothing ranges from swimwear to formal outfits to a kind of womens' dress resembling countries' national flags. There are also a number of old but still useful avatars up for free, such as a "Stay Puft Marshmallow Man" from "Ghostbusters," standing about twenty feet high. There's also a selection of classic "Wingless" avatars from anthro fox to equine to hyena up, completely free.
The mall will be up for several days, Nydia saying it should be coming down Friday September 19th.
The SURL http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sunny%20Beach/80/120/24 will take you to the place, but all one has to do is bring up Sunny Beach on the map and teleport somewhere on to the western half, "this easily covers a quarter sim you can't miss it."

Tales From Podex: Surf's Up
By Bixyl Shuftan
Each month seemed to offer something different to the tellers of the Podex Exchange. In June, the people coming by were talking about the Second Life Birthday, including a few more people than usual new to the world after hearing about it and coming by. In July, there was the Relay for Life weekend, and people coming by to buy Lindens to donate for a favorite team, or to the Relay funds in general. By the time August came around, the Relay was winding down, and there were more college-age residents hoping to relax a little before it was time for the next semester the following month. Between times customers came in, the tellers would talk amongst themselves about various happenings, such as the final Relay event on August 31st, the Lovecraft festival, or something that had seemingly come up from out of the blue: the "Ice Bucket Challenge." In the middle of one such discussion, someone walked in. He wasn't wearing much, just a pair of swimming trunks. His body looked like it was made for the water, his blueish skin had a few stripes in places with fins in places on his arms and legs with the largest one on his back. He had a long thick tail that poked through the swimwear in the back. He carried a surfboard with him.
"Um, can I help you?" One of the tellers asked.
"Yeah dude," the trunked visitor asked, "I need to get some extra lin-dios to grab a spot at this bodacious place that just opened up a surfer spot, Sunny Beach in the Sunweaver Estates, man. It's real epic.""Um, sure. Well, we offer the best rates of third party Linden exchangers, and will sell Linden dollars for a wide range of world currencies."
"Cool beans dude, but I'll just be usin' good ol' Ameri-can dollars, man."
"Certainly Sir, just fill out this form. If you've never been here before, new clients are limited to 25,000 Lindens in purchases."
"Whoah dude, I don't need that much man. I'm jess getting a few parcels, not half a freakin' sim."
"No problem, just fill it out and you'll get your Lindens."
The visitor soon took care of the form and the electronic transfer was quickly done.
"There you are Sir, all done.""Sweet! Now I don't have so far to travel to Sunny Beach, man."
"That's good, plan to be hanging ten soon?"
"Yep, though they keep suggesting I need a new gun or somethin.' Half the time I'm out there with people, this red fox keeps sayin' 'we're going to need a bigger board.'"
They had a good chuckle, and the visitor went on his way.
The Podex Exchange is located at the Code sim at (45, 218, 61), with a website at http://www.podex.info/. Jacek Shuftan is the CEO.

Party at Sunny Beach for Nydia Tungsten
I've heard some residents say, usually to their disappointment, that after having to be offline for several days, they find virtual life went smoothly without them, "Oh, so that's where you were." Not so Nydia Tungsten. After a few days of being offline, her friends and virtual family began to wonder. After about a week, her Angels group was quite worried. Finally came an update. While she had been in the hospital, her problem wasn't nearly as bad as feared and she would be coming home.
On the afternoon of Monday August 25, Nydia returned to Second Life with both a flurry of IMs, and cheers in group chats. Happiest of all was her partner Brandi Streusel whom logged on to give her a big hug. So what to do? Talk soon turned to having a party to celebrate. But Nydia also had in mind the calendar contest made to raise funds for the Angels Estates, which had portraits of the volunteers at the Sunny Beach club. So the decision was made to hold the party there, and Nydia herself would do the DJing.
Nydia's back, and behind the DJ booth. To celebrate, we're having a "Best in Model" night. Come to the Sunny Beach club and be surrounded by some of the best looking ladies in the Sunweaver Estates, make a bid on the volunteers for the calendar contest, and of course enjoy the tunnage of "DJ Naughty Nydia." There's a whopping 2500 Lindens on the board, so come and get it.
Brandi was sporting a slightly differently look part of the time. While Nydia was absent, she was going about in dark fur. But as some people thought it was cute, she had it on one more time.
The prize was split between Skylark LeFavre, Brandi Streusel, and Kera Berensohn. Lots of fun was had by all.
The calendar contest is still going on, with bids still being made at Sunny Beach. If you want an appearance in the calendar next to a beautiful girl or handsome guy, come over and make a bid.
