A Few Relay Track Exhibits

While the Relay sims are still up, there's some that stand out. One yearly favorite is the SLCS camp at RFL Prevention. At over 360 meters, it's taller than many normal draw distances. Here it is from the top with it extended to maximum. You can get to it at : https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/RFL%20Prevention/150/120/24

Also there was the Second Chance Saloon Dark Ride.

ALL A BOARD! The ride will be departing in twenty seconds! *Ghostly Moaning* *Ghostly Coughing*  Sorry, Hang on ...Ah, That cleared out the cobwebs in my throat. I haven't spoken a word in the last two decades. WELCOME TO THE SECOND CHANCE SALOON, Where the dead don't truly die! So what are you a ten-cent man?? Get spooked out like a yellow belly sapsucker! As the Barkeeper of this fine establishment, I will personally guide you through our ghostly haunts. I must warn you though, Not all ghostly folks are here for a good time, some have a bone to pick with you livin folk. So go on, git. Make sure you got on some clean britches.

The Second Chance Saloon is at https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/RFL%20Prevention/206/46/24

Another ride on the track camps is the Serenity Mine at RFL Hope.

While there's no ghosts haunting it, that you can see anyway, the ride has plenty of thrills.

This ride is at https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/RFL%20Hope/123/48/23 .

I ran into Journey Texan, and he took me to another exhibit at the back of RFL Hope, "The Wall of Shane." Journey's been posting a number of pictures on RFL's Discord channel with a figure named "Cardboard Shane." It turned out there was a real life Shane: Shane Jackson, the CEO of the American Cancer Society.

But behind the whimsy was a question, one that Journey spoke about with me. With all that the Relay for Life in Second Life has done, especially during the Covid Pandemic when real life fundraising events were shut down, why hasn't Shane Jackson given the group a word of thanks or even acknowledgement it's there?

Shane, thank you for all you do, Seriously. Would it be too much to ask, however that you personally bring attention to and thank the RFL in SL for all WE do too? After 20+ years of volunteer service and raising over US $7 million in donations, no ACS CEO has ever acknowledged they are even aware of us. Not one. But you could. And while you are at it, do thank Stingray for his years of service, volunteer dedication, team leadership, and organizational skills. He deserves it - and a photo-op spot on your LinkedIn social media posts as well like all the others. And to press you further, how about SHOWING UP in Second Life to see how WE RELAY? That's what leadership does. They SHOW UP.

The Wall of Shane is at https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/RFL%20Celebrate/228/31/24 .

These exhibits should be up until Takedown Day, which is probably Thursday June 18.

Go Relay!

Valentine on Ice

Gemma Cleanslate is back following her computer being in the shop. And it's appropriate that for Valentine's Day, her article is about a Valentine-themed location. Located at Rebel Yell Concerts is "Valentine on Ice," showing some winter fun activities, some meant to be enjoyed by couples, from rides to gift shops to relaxing in front of a fire.

Three Halloween Shopping Places

Disney Tribute "Magicland" About to Close

Some sad news for Disney fans in Second Life. Two days ago on Tuesday April 9, the owners of Magicland Park, a tribute to Disneyland, announced the place would soon be closing.

Every good thing comes to an end and it's unfortunately time for us to say goodbye to Magicland Park. THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us over the last 15 years. This has been an amazing incredible journey that we were fortunate to be able to share with all of you. Magicland Park was a labor of love and we enjoyed this journey we were on.

It was with a heavy heart that we came to this decision, but our lives have moved us into a different direction.

We hope that you enjoyed the moments you had here with us on this amazing journey. Magicland Park's last day of operation will be Sunday, April 14, 2024. So grab your friends and family, come on down and take a last spin on the teacups or a final trip back through time on the Carousel of Progress. We have our favorite attractions and know that you do too.

Thank you for all your support and encouragement over all these years.

So there are just a few more days for visitors to come by. Besides walking around, one can check out the rides. There's a "Star Tours" attraction in which riders go on a ship supposedly piloted by R2D2. There's the "Captain EO" ride which is around a Michael Jackson music video. There's the "Carousel of Progress" which shows how households have progressed through the 20th century. And more.

Once again, the last day the park will be scheduled to be up is Sunday April 14.

Disney Tribute Wedcot Center to Close

Some sad news for Disney fans in Second Life. The WEDCOT Center Park, an inworld tribute to Disney World, Disneyland, and Epcot Center, has closed. In the sim's group, owner Trevor Sleydon would say the following yesterday, Sunday October 1.

Who would’have thought opening day that WEDCOT Center Park would welcome guests for 10 years? It’s our cast and guests who made the magic, through attendance and support. A park needs attention to keep it going.  Unfortunately, I cannot do that at this time, so WEDCOT and it’s properties have closed. I hope you all have empathy and understanding and carry these 10 yrs of memories in your hearts, be kind to each other and celebrate the future, hand in hand.

Who knows what my future may be, WEDCOT came back once. We'll just have to see, but I hope that you all will join us, if we return.

WEDCOT was a theme park located in the Real Dreams Sim. It was based on the Disney theme parks with numerous rides and attractions. The Newser first wrote about WEDCOT in July 2020. Less than a year ago in December 2022, Patch Linden would hold four Christmas candlelight events there

Sunweaver Bay's Game Room

A lot's been happening across Second Life lately between the Relay and the SL20B. So it's easy to miss everything else. So I decided to check my local community a bit. In Sunweaver Bay, I noticed someone had set up a new farm. This included cows, and every fox's favorite: chicken.

But the more interesting new place was by Sunweaver BrianL61 Landar: a new amusement park he named "The Game Room."

Welcome to The Game Room,  all games are free to play and sorry,  there are NO PAYOUTS,  please have fun, and bring a friend.  from here you can use the teleporter in front of the game room to access other areas on this land, feel free to explore.  there is also a shuttle station which will take you too View Point Space Station.     BrianL61 Landar

There's plenty of games there, from old ones that were at previous amusement areas to some new ones I haven't seen before, from a disk-tossing target game to the "Madfall" tower that takes you high above the park then sends you plummeting down, to the "Pharoah's Folly" ride. And overlooking it all, in time for the Fourth of July, a Statue of Liberty shooting fireworks.

 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Sunweaver%20Bay/231/224/22

And of course don't forget the sim's main attraction, Club Cutlass and it's Wednesday-Frida-Saturday events from 6 to 8PM Sunweaver Bay (114/117/757).

Scenes From the Relay Track

"Takedown Day" for the Relay Weekend track is tomorrow, and time is starting to run short for those who haven't seen the builds. Among those recommended is the Second Life Cheerleading Squad's camp in RFL Hope. This year, it's space themed, with planets and asteroids floating around, plus a mention of a study that suggests zero gravity may kill or otherwise disable cancer cells.

The camp had a great ride in space too.

Ar RFL Inspire was a racetrack curling well up into the air, good for racing cars or horses.

At RFL Journey was an amusement park by Havok Entertainment.

The Burners Without Borders Exhibit in RFL Community.

At RFL Care, a heart-shaped island, with a couple cuddle spots for couples, by Bluezaar.

The Takedown is tomorrow. While some builds will be kept up until late in the day, some good ones will vanish early. So see them today while you can.

Brian's Christmas Amusement Park

Brian (BrianL61 Landar), noted for his work with the Arcadia Asylum Library, set up a Christmas-themed amusement park in the Sunweaver Estates. Located next to the main road and railway in Sunweaver Bay, it has both rides and some holiday-themed displays. Bixyl Shuftan took a look for himself, and had a few words with Brian.

More Halloween Places in Second Life

October is here, and it's time for Halloween season. This means plenty of spooky and scary places across Second Life. Gemma Cleanslate has been on the lookout for them. In her second article, she writes about a few more spooktacular places to visit. That is, if you dare. It seems some are just, dying, to stay for good.

Wedcot Center Park

The last time we heard from Gemma, she was at a tribute to Disney theme parks. In today's article, she checks out Second Life's counterpart to Disney's Epcot: Wedcot Center Park in the Real Dreams sim. Gemma found some rides, and other attractions.

Arcadia Asylum Amusement Park

Although the carnival in the SL17B sims is gone, another place with some fun rides has sprung up. Just across the road from the Arcadia Asylum freebie place in HV Community was an amusement part, set up by the freebie store owner Prof Grey (BrianL61 Resident).

There's a number of attractions there. The "Ferret Wheel" will have your avatar running a wheel like a hamster. The Sidewinder will leave you spinning around until you're dizzy. The Mad Drop will take your avatar over a hundred meters into the air before letting you plunge. And there are other rides you can have fun on.

The park is up "for a limited time," so head over and enjoy while you can.

One More SL17B Stage Event, And A Carnival

Tuesday July 7 had one big impromptu, unplanned, event at the Second Life Seventeenth Birthday grounds. At the Auditorium, a number of musicians got on stage. Due to the lag, I couldn't get much of the audience in a picture before crashing. Among the performers was Golan Eilde, a longtime SLB volunteer, whom DJed for a time.

The events went on for some hours, going on to about 6PM SL time. The last performer was singer TJ O. Joubert (TJ Jenipe).

Dropping by after the events, with the lag mostly gone I saw that around the Auditorium was a carnival area. There was a Ferris wheel, a merry-go-round, a water slide, a drop tower, and much more.

There were a number of food stands, such as a pizzeria whose pizzas looked so real, one of them steaming, they had a friend of mine drooling over them. There were also some desserts. One big dessert was a destructible version of Nance Clowe's cake. Press the button, and after an ominous tune the cake would start to shake itself into pieces. One person dubbed it the "Shake and Cake." Nance joked that for a more intense experience, one could always hop in as the cake parts fly.

The carnival is at the meeting point of the four sims SL17B Imagination, Fantasy, Astound, and Awesome. People have until Sunday July 12 to drop by and join in the fun.

Relay Event at Bellisseria Fairgrounds This Weekend

This weekend, there will be a number of Relay events. One of the more noteable ones is taking place at the Bellisseria Fairgrounds. Gemma was on the scene, and found quite a lot. Among the things you can do there are dance to the music DJs play at parties, listen to live music, take hot air balloon rides, take boat tours, do some shopping, play some games including bungie jumping, and more. Just watch out for Slenderman.

Be the Match is a bone marrow/cord blood registry that not only helps people find matches, but helps donors with logistics and expenses so that they can feel free to donate marrow.

PLEASE IF YOU ARE BETWEEN 22 AND 44 AND IN GOOD HEALTH, JOIN THE BONE MARROW AND CORD BLOOD REGISTRY
It is easy, a simple swab in the cheek... go to the website for a test kit to send back.
If you are NOT in this age group or in good health, you can donate or volunteer from the following site as well. They need your dollars and time to coordinate and care for donors as well as those who are ill.
Be the one that can give a ride to the hospital or take a donor to lunch.. Be the one that can put a couple dollars (even $5.00 helps!) in the pot and get an instant email with 501 (c) information back.. go to the Website..
BE THE MATCH TO SAVE A LIFE!

http://www.bethematchfoundation.org/goto/TeamBeTheMatchSL2018

To our free Test Kit page.. go here
http://join.bethematch.org/SecondLife

It costs about $100 to add each new member to the Be The Match Registry. This is to cover the cost of tissue typing and storage, as well as materials and administrative expenses.

If you are age 18–44, Be The Match covers the cost to join for the people on SecondLife (during the campaign only! From October 26th through November 5) through funds provided in part by generous mission supporters.

If you are age 45–60, you will be required to make a $100 payment to cover the cost to join.

The reason: Younger donors, ages 18–44, produce more and higher-quality blood stem cells that lead to better transplant outcomes. Transplant physicians request younger donors more than 95 percent of the time. Requiring individuals ages 45–60 to cover their own cost to join helps Be The Match maintain the best registry for patients and make the best use of its resources.
