Three Halloween Shopping Places

While it may still be September, already Second Life is getting ready to the spooky season that is Halloween. Gemma Cleanstate decided to take a look at three. She went to Dench Designs, Khargo, and :"Fiendish Rides and Haunt." So what did she think?

Haunted Area in Sunweaver Bay

In the Sunweaver community, there's now something for those who enjoy a good Halloween haunt. "A Little Odd Place," in Sunweaver Bay and owned by BrianL61 Landar, now has a haunted house, with a maze and graveyard in the back.

The old house itself has a lot of skeletons in and around it. Some are animated, some static. There are also a few with funny captions over them, such as a one-legged skelly telling a buddy "Friggin dog grabbed my leg again!" The dining room is also animated, with ghosts setting up the table and food floating over.

Behind the house was a maze, which you need to traverse to get to in order to get to the last area. It isn't too difficult to get through (especially if you can pan around and look from above).

Getting past the maze, you see the third part of the area, the graveyard and mausoleum. There are more skeletons in various poses, and a few witting sayings on the graves, "As you now are, so I once was. As I am now, so you will be."

A spooky fun place that isn't gory or too terrifying.

The Happy Vixen's Halloween Haunt: "The House on Haunted Hill"

Once again, the Happy Vixen has it's "Halloween Haunt" up and running. Over the years, the place has had haunted mazes, ghost pirate ships, and dark circuses. All have been built by the talented Jasmine Dawn (Jasmine Knickers). This year, it offers "The House on Haunted Hill."

Hey folks! After a couple weeks of anticipation, we're finally revealing Jasmine's Halloween Haunt for this year: "The House on Haunted Hill." We're starting things off with a Come As You Are event with suggested atire being that of the characters in the "Scooby Doo" cartoons, the mystery-solving gang and their dog (and the villians and other supporting cast members). So come on over, but, "don't visit alone." DJ Jazzy spins the tunes. We have a 2000 Linden dollar prize available in a fishbowl giver.

The haunted house is high above the sim. To reach it, touch a teleporter in the middle of the beach club's dance floor, and accept the port upwards. The place has a first and second floor, as well as hidden ways to get to the attic and basement. The place is full of spooky and scary sights. When I and a few others gave it an early preview, a couple were a bit freaked by a few scenes. So be forwarned.

Jasmine herself was the DJ on the reveal party at 5PM Sunday, October 9. While it was Come As You Are, people were asked if they could come dressed as one of the "Scooby Doo" gang, considering they were in a number of haunted houses, "I would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for those meddling furries." There was a 2000 Linden dollar prize that was given away to a couple winners at random. The winners were Ginger (Dusk Griswold) and DeniseUnicorn Toonie.

The Halloween Haunt is at Purrfection Estates (207/210/2501). Those who end up ground level when getting to the sim, click the teleporter in the middle of the beach club.

Don't Forget the Destination Guide For Halloween Locations

 *

There's a LOT going on around Second Life this Halloween, too much for us to do a review on it all. Plus there are other things going on, such as the closing of one mental health support group and the opening of another. We're still going to write up on a few more Halloween haunts. But don't forget to check the Destinations Guide's Haunted category.

And if you find a haunt that's very well done, let us know about it, or even better write a reader submission to describe it in your own words.

Happy Halloween.

The Happy Vixen's Ghost Pirate Island

Once again, it's Halloween. Many clubs just put up a few decorations. But the Happy Vixen beach club has a special Halloween area. Builder Jasmine Dawn (Jasmine Knickers) makes one appear every year. This year's area is a ghost pirate island. So what can you expect should you brave the fog of this misty haunted isle?

SL Video: "Exploring the Halloween Haunt In Second Life"

From Panda Jenn on October 16, "I explored the Happy Vixen's 'Halloween Haunt' for the first time. Credit goes to Jasmine Dawn for creating this spooktastic experience, and to the owner of the Happy Vixen, Nydia Tungsten. The club is also managed by Snowbuns (Skylark Lefavre) and Bixyl, who has written a rather informative article on this long-standing tradition (here).

"lf you'd like to experience it for yourself, just head on over to Purrfection Estates (236/219/24). Be safe and happy haunting!"

Over 23,000 Linden Dollar Jackpot at Happy Vixen's Halloween Party

On Saturday October 31, the Happy Vixen Beach club held it's yearly Halloween party. For the past few years, it's been held at a special area high above the sim, and this year was held at the Halloween Haunt. As before, Jasmine Dawn, aka "DJ Hornycorn", would play the music.

We're having a Halloween Blowout event tonight from 4 to 7pm SLT.  It's a costume party with a huge 5000 Linden prize to be divided out to 3 lucky winners. DJ HornyCorn is making a special appearance to rock the night away. The prize is a Random Draw Fishbowl setup to give everyone a equal chance at the treats. All people including Club personnel are welcome to join into the Halloween event. So grab a friend and help us party the night away on All Hallows Eve.

The party was a blast with two dozen people showing up in the three hour event. Among those showing up was DJ Tantari Kim. A few generous people kept boosting the prize to 10,000 Lindens, then 13,000, and finally to 20,312 Linden dollars! This was the biggest prize yet for a Happy Vixen event.

The jackpot prize was split three ways, to 6770 Lindens. The winners were Ranchan Weidman, Cody Furlong (CJ Balehawk), and Clove (VoxDragon Resident).

As there are some people whom have yet to give the maze a try, the Halloween Haunt will remain up for a few more days. To get there, head to Purrfection Estates (236/219/24), and take the door in the middle of the dance floor.

Jasmine Dawn on The Halloween Haunt And Her New Computer

Halloween is here, and it's time for clubs across Second Life to do something for spooky fun. Some just put up a few small decorations. But the Happy Vixen goes all out with a special Halloween area. For these builds, Jasmine Dawn has graciously donated her time so others can have a little spooky fun. This year, she had planned a challenging maze and a spooky house. But trouble came when unexpected computer trouble broke her machine. Fortunately, help would soon be on the way, and she was able to complete her creation. Yours truly would have a few words with her about the maze, and the effort to get her a new computer.

News In Brief

A lot has been going on, and only a little time to write about it. So it's time to write a little about what's going on, and do something more in depth later.

The Second Life Renaissance Festival concluded on Sunday October 4. Just before it ended were two Linden events. On Thursday October 1 was the Linden and Mole jousting event, in which Abnor Mole won, followed by some sparing between the Lindens and Moles and some residents. On Friday October 2 was the Lindens in the Pillory, which was a "jail and bail" with a twist.

In the Sunweaver/Angel community, the Happy Vixen opened it's new Halloween Haunt area: Purrfection Estates (236, 219, 24)

World Space Week is this week, and the National Space Society has something at their sim for it: National Space Society (104/165/3004)

Nydia Tungsten announced the publishing of her second novel on Amazon: "Switched Destinies - Kevin's Return," holding a party inworld to celebrate.

More Halloween Places in Second Life

It's just a few more days until Halloween, and Gemma Cleanslate has sent in what will probably be her last article on Halloween places here in Second Life. She took a look at three. The first was "The Secret Laboratories of Dr. Waxen and Prof. Grey" in Tseshkovsky. Next was the Haunted House at Creations Park. Last but not least, an old favorite that's still around, Nance Clowes' "Haunted Mansion Ride and Haunt Park."

Wolf Ridge Asylum

The Newser recently interviewed one of the staff of Wolf Ridge Asylum. As far as haunts go, this isn't a simple spook house with things that pop out and say "boo!", but a nerve-wracking three-floor experience that will have you tiptoeing with care as you try to navigate it's dangers. Located in Geerkil Lands, you can win up a whopping 10,000 Linden dollars depending on how many key items you find.

Sneek Peek: The Wolf Ridge Asylum

The Newser recently interviewed one of the staff of Wolf Ridge Asylum. As far as haunts go, this isn't a simple spook house with things that pop out and say "boo!", but a nerve-wracking three-floor experience that will have you tiptoeing with care as you try to navigate it's dangers. Located at Geerkil Lands, you can win up a whopping 10,000 Linden dollars depending on how many key items you find.

We'll have more on the place soon. While we'd normally suggest heading over to it's location at Geerkil Land (165/122/2251), next to Club EFS, the Asylum is open only from Thur-Sun, 5-10PM SLT and anyone heading there when it's closed will be spirited back home by it's ghosts. But don't worry, we'll explain shortly just what you'll be facing at this monstrously fun haunt.

The Happy Vixen's 2019 Halloween "Carn-Evil"

Usually the Happy Vixen beach club offers fun in the sun in an open-air club next to the water. But when Halloween rolls around, it offers something else for spooky fun. This year, the venue is offering a haunted carnival, dubbed the "THV Dark Vixen's Carn-Evil." Built by Jasmine Dawn, the place offers a number of thrills and chills.

Cartoon of the Day: Creeper Peeper

Taken at a Caledon Halloween party. It's been stated someone becomes a ghost if they have unfinished business. So if a guy has an unsatisfactory love life, might he as a spirit haunt places where they can watch the girls like they never could before?

Exploring Escapade's Haunt

In her search for Halloween haunts, Deaflefacy decided to try out "Escapade's Haunted Farm and Hospital." Once arriving there, rain coming down from the sky, she decided to check the house. She found quite a few unnerving moments while exploring around, notably rats and a television set in which she found she wasn't the only one doing the watching.

ZZ’s Madhouse

Grease Coakes recently stopped by ZZ Studios to check out what's become a yearly tradition there: their "Madhouse." This year they're offering a choice for visitors, both a "tame" path, and for brave (or foolish) a "Gory" path. Grease took a try at both, and had a few words with one of the ZZ staff about the haunt.

Vivi's Haunted Hill

Deaflegacy has been on the lookout for some Halloween Haunts. After a few that didn't seem what they were scared up to be, she came across Vivi's Haunted Hill in Smokey Valley. She found the place not just spooky, but terrifying. In writing about the location, she left some details unspoken so the surprise wouldn't be ruined, but did give some hints of what perils lay ahead.

Echo Valley

October is almost here, and that means Halloween and time for spooky locations to explore for thrills and chills. MajikVixen recently came across one called Echo Valley. Her advice when going about, "tread lightly." In this sim owned by Jack and Misty Le' Lune, while searching for items for hunts or just spook-tacutlar fun, you never know if what's around the corner might simply scare you or rip you apart.

"Good and Evil" Night at Club Zero Gravity's "Haunted Woods"

Among the clubs in Second Life having special Halloween events in late October was Club Zero Gravity. To begin with, the space club decided to have it's events from mid-October to Halloween not at the station, but in the "Haunted Woods," a platform created by Jasmine Dawn Shuftan. Last night's party was "Good vs Evil Night, with partygoers dressed up as angels, devils, heroes, monsters, and more.

Tonight at the Haunted Woods, it's "Good vs Evil." Do you see yourself as a perpetual good guy, always wanting to do good and be righteous? Or are you the bad guy, taking delight in acts of villainy and just being bad? Pick a role, and choose a look to go with it, such as an angel or night in shining armor, or a devil or barbarian raider? Or maybe someone "evil in a good way" like a seductress. Whatever role you wish to be, wear it with pride and fly on over.

DJ Reactor spun the tunes for the party, at one point about 20 present and dancing away, "Welcome to the Haunted Woods," visitors were greeted, "Be careful about venturing too far into the forest, as those who go too far often vanish, waking up later on the beach with no memory how they got there."

The party went on for two hours, and eventually it was time to decide the winner. Skylark Lefarve was the one who got the most votes for the 500L prize.

The next party at Zero-G's Haunted Woods is on Thursday, Halloween night, which is sure to be filled with fun, dance, and another prize to give out to the best costume. The party's at Purrfection Estates Hautned Woods (216, 39, 1314).

For those looking for a Halloween party tonight, check out Club Cutlass at 6PM at Sunweaver Space (176, 62, 125).
