The Waterfall Café

 

The Newser has covered many winter places in recent weeks.  For those looking for something different, Newser reporter Netera Landar found a location very interesting and unique in all seasons: The Waterfall Cafe. From Katie Luckstone, with it's picturesque underwater caverns, huge aquariums with swimming fish, chairs made to resemble sea shells, and more, it's very much worth a visit.

Sable Hound Hollow ‘s Winter Reverie

 

Gemma Cleaslate has been searching for holiday and winter-themed locations since November. And in her last article before Christmas, she looks at Sable Hound Hollow‘s Winter Reverie. There are sleigh rides, pony rides, and great scenery. She also had a chance to stop by the Premier Business Center and Bellisseria Fairgrounds.

Gemma Cleanslate has been busy exploring more places around Second Life. One was Memories of Dreams, a picturesque area with Japanese style buildings and cherry trees. Morrigans Roadhouse isn't a bar, but a scenic area. Then there was Kim’s Legacy. So what did Gemma say about them?

More Winter Places: Astoria And Adagio Winterland

 

Christmas is over. But that doesn't mean the places to have some winter-themed fun are gone. Gemma Cleanslate went looking around for some, and found two. Astoria had skating and horseback riding. Adagio Winterland offered interactive rides and snowball fights. So what did Gemma think?

The Outer Garden

  

Rosie (RougeRedHead01 Resident) came across "quite a stunning place to explore," called "The Outer Garden." Dropping in, it looks like a forest at winter. But there's plenty of scenes, which one can pose on which make it a great place to take pictures. While exploring, Rosie ran into one photographer whom asked her to pose for one.

Baja Cove

 

Recently a reader of the Newser notified us that a favorite place of hers, Baja Cove, was about to shut it's doors. By the time we took a look, there was only one sim that could be accessed. But the scenery was great. As it turns out, the last sim is not going to close. But in staying up, much of the scenery had been changed.

EOTB: Second Life Destinations - Vive La Paris

While the Coronavirus crisis has mostly shut down world travel, one can do some virtual vacationing here in Second Life. This week in the Linden Blog, the latest Second Life Destinations is a tribute to a favorite global tourist spot: Vive La Paris.

Designed by longtime SL resident Trouble Dethly Crystal, Vive La Paris was built as a special gift by the creator for his girlfriend in Argentina.  

“Whether it is her favorite song posters adorning the walls of the music store, the outdoor gallery of some my favorite images by her, to the cheese and flower shop and everything in between, the region is my love letter to her,” says Dethly. 

Highlights of the region featured in the video include the Eiffel Tower, shops, cafes, and an outdoor exhibit of Second Life photography. 

“Initially, the region was only meant to be rented for two weeks like the other date experiences I have taken her on, where I would hire a couple of live singers for a private show...This time I even had a friend roleplay as a waitress so we could experience a full-service dinner. It was after this date that Ara and I decided to keep the region to share with others to explore, to use as a backdrop for their photographs, or even take their partner or friends for a full-service roleplay dinner.”

New Santorini

One group of sims the Newser keeps writing about year after year is Calas Galadhon Park. The sims are always well-designed, and there's something new every few months. Sadly, in the past a few of the sims had to be shut down due to real-life finances. But recently came some good news. One of the lost sims, the Greek-themed New Santorini, is back. Gemma Cleanslate went there to look around.

Crystal Ski Resort and Zimminyville

Christmas is over. But there are still plenty of winter-themed areas across Second Life. Gemma Cleanslate recently took a look at two. At the Crystal Ski Resort, the big attraction is of course, skiing. But there's also sledding, snowmobiles, and a place to warm up after a length of time in the snow. Zimminyville offers ballooning, ice skating, horseback riding and hiking, and scenic views for photography or just enjoy them for the memories.

Furry Tiki Island

Have you wanted to just get away from it all, head to a tropical island and enjoy the ocean breeze while swimming in the water, sampling the food, or just resting in a hammock? There's a place that recently opened that allows all these, and more: Furry Tiki Island at the Havoc sim. The place offers more than just sights and sounds. The owner is promising to establish a DJ school.

The Grand Canyon

Britty Bee is back with a new story about her travels across Second Life. Here, she writes about her trip to the Grand Canyon. One could just relax and admire the view. But there's much more to do here such as camping, ballooning, horseback riding, and a few things not available yet at the real life canyon. A great place for an adventure. Just be a little careful where you yodel.

Ville de Coeur

Wesley Regenbogen recently dropped by a village area, "Ville de Coeur." Designed and owned by Ayla Guisse and Bedrich Panacek, the sim boasts a number of horse drawn carriages for going about, and has music events every few weeks. So what did Wesley think of the village?

Dawn of Radiance

I am still visiting regions that are celebrating the winter season either with the winter sports , or , just for the love of presenting the season itself. Silvermoon Fairey has allowed the winter snows and ice to be in her sim Dawn of Radiance. Quoting Silvermoon, silvermoon Fairey. 

“oh and winter comes
in all its cold iced beauty
covering the lands
in white sheets of new promises
a tale frozen in silent times
captured in frost, fragile and pure
waiting to awake by springs first call
but now is not the time
now it is time to slumber in chilled winters breath
to weave silently the words for this tale unheard
in freezing delights
of warm winters nights”  

 You can almost feel the frosty winds as you wander through the sim discovering places of interest. From the entrance you may pass several  ways , one leading to the beach , which for the moment is closed due to the weather, but go take a look. I wound around the outer limits and came to a light house, and a hill nearby with ruins reflected against the sky. Some vessels sit in the waves in the harbor and horses graze in the fields . From the entrance you can pass along a lane under snowy branches. This leads you by quaint buildings where you can stop and relax and admire the decor inside the homes by crackling fires. There are birds flying and small animals in the woods as you pass. 

At first I was wishing I could ride my horse but after walking the paths I was glad I could not not( no scripting ) . There is so much to see that I might have missed.  I came upon what I must call a gypsy camp from the looks of it.  Chicken roamed the camp clucking as they pecked at the ground. Take time to examine the items in the camp which are very realistic down to the tin tub set up for bathing. If you are feeling really lazy high on a hill I found a slide show with pictures of all the interesting places you can visit on the sim while sitting on a bench. A Dream of Snow

While I was checking for more winter sports venues I came across a very lovely sim you should explore. It is called "Yuki No Yumi ... A Dream of Snow." The region is a natural Japanese winter setting created by Jac Mornington. It is elegantly beautiful, incorporating the mountains, valleys, brooks, and seas  enveloped in snow. Delicate bridges connect the hillocks that are surrounded by running streams. Several lovely typical Japanese homes fully decorated sit in an area near the center of the region. 

 

While I was there some lovely Japanese avatars were wandering through and enhanced the beauty of the area. As you follow along the paths you will be charmed by discoveries, a hot spring, where you can relax, a chair overlooking a pond inhabited by a duck family. an ice covered pond where majestic cranes stand. I passed a stag watching over his family while they visited a feeding station. 

 

High on a hill there are temple ruins and below a small buddhist worship temple stands along the entrance road. The view is so majestic with waters and mountains it is difficult to find the edges of the sim. It seems to go on and on which adds to the beauty. Take a walk and relish the tranquility, a good way to start the new year.
