Book Island Update

There's been a few goings on at Book Island. For one, there's an art show going on.

"Micca Hedrick's iPad Art is still being displayed in the Pirate's Cove. This is its first week of being hung, and it will be there for a few weeks to come, hopefully. It is quite the display! It’s reckoned that forty to fifty people saw the show while the artist was attending the opening. Many more came afterward."

The exhibit is at Book Island, (217, 249, 21)

Five of the shop spaces were currently available earlier this week. To ask for one, contact Selina Greene.

There's also some transportation available arond the place, the Tourways (renamed from Segway), and a few bikes. The Tourway pictured here at the Pulitzer Plaza takes one to the Writers' Wave Venue. The bikes are slower, but take you most anywhere on the ground.

And of course, the weekly schedule of events, with something happening most every day. Either join the Book Island group to get weekly updates or check the Newser's "Events this Week" section.

Club Graffiti Writers Workshop

Short Story Writers Workshop
A study in people/place watching.

Date: First Meeting - Sept 10, 2011 @ 2pm slt - 1-2 hours

Place: Club Graffiti - Good Day Sunshine (140. 72. 21)

Subject:

You will be given a random picture to write a short story about. There is no theme to these stories, just let your mind create whatever it wants.

Length:

A short story should be between 1,000 and 7,500 words. I will not be super strict about length. If you run shorter that is okay, however, try not to run over 7,500 words because then it becomes a novellette. All stories must be written in English.

How often:

We will meet every two weeks... same bat time... same bat location. Should this every change, you will be informed. The number of people participating will determine how often we will be writing.

Sharing:

Please be prepared to share and recieve feedback about your stories. Feedback from one's peers is how we grow. When giving feedback, please make sure your comments are constructive. You should be prepared to read your story in voice or find someone to read it and comments should be made in type so that people can record your comments about their stories to look at later.

If you have any questions please IM Kalli Birman

Marney Wolfhunter to Hold Reading Event Series at Book Island

On a trip to Book Island, I met up with Marney Wolfhunter, a writer and publisher, founding a company aimed at “alternative” writers. She will be hosting a regular book reading event at Book Island starting Tuesday August 3rd. She talked a little about her own works, and those at the upcoming writers’ event.

For the story, go to Events.

Book Island Writing Workshops, Summer 2010

Sun block is expected in the summertime, writer’s block isn’t so welcome. Join author Diana Allandale (Diana Hunter in RL) for a series of writing workshops throughout the month of July designed to get your Muse out of the sun and back to work.

NOTE: All workshops are held at the Beach Area of Book Island (why should our Muses be the only ones getting a tan?) at 2:30 pm SLT.

You'll be writing and sharing at each workshop, although no formal critique will be given. This is really an opportunity to get some new ideas, play with some ideas and just have fun writing!

July 6th -- Developing strong characters

July 13th -- Doing more than just seeing the scene

July 20th -- Writing like we speak -- or -- Authenticity in dialogue -- or -- Say what?

July 27th -- Playing with characters

The above dates are scheduled but if something unforeseen should arise, a note will go out to both Diana’s Passionate Books group and to the Book Island events and discussion group, so be sure you're a member of one or both of those!

Who is Diana Hunter? She’s the author of twelve erotic romances and has been an active member of Second Life since October, 2006. You can learn more about Diana by visiting her website (www.dianahunter.net - warning not work safe) or her blog at www.dianahunter.blogspot.com.
