Wedcot Center Is Back

Disney Epcot tribute - Celebrate the season with Nightmare Before Christmas, and Haunted Mansion Holiday! Festival of the Holidays, Spaceship Earth, Test Track, with access to mini golf.

The place is still under Trevor Sleydon and is still in the Real Dreams sim. A look at the park's group showed no announcement's in the past month, so it's safe to assume the place came back before the first of the month. The place isn't quite perfect. The "Spaceship Earth" attraction isn't quite working. But some things such as the monorail are.

RFL Sunbeamers: "Bid Me Purple"

The Relay for Life's Sunbeamer team has another "Bid Me" fundraiser going. Liska has joined Bixyl and Charlee Shuftan in putting her appearance on the line with her "Bid Me Purple"

Like the first Bid Me, this fundraiser is taking place at Club Cutlass in Sunweaver Bay (114/117/757), in the room behind the dance floor. Like other Bid Me events, there are two kiosks. To keep Liska a red fox, donate to the default one on the left. To Bid Liska Purple, donate to the kiosk on the right. For every 3000 Linden dollars, rounded down, assuming the change kiosk is higher than the default one, Liska will be purple for a week. A total of 5999 Lindens would mean one week. 6000 L would mean two weeks.

The event ends on Sunday April 21, at which the totals will be made final. The bids are continuing for the other fundraiser "Bid Us Squirrels."

So come and show Liska a "grape" time.

In Passing: Arabella Cinquetti, Kei Haru Paws

Sadly, just as death is a part of life, there comes a day when residents of this virtual world go on to "Third Life." And the Newser recently heard about two residents who sadly met their end.

A reliable source recently told the Newser that Arabella Cinquetti, the owner of Lightening Video, had recently passed away. She had gotten the news via a notecard next to her store.

It is with sad news that I share with you all the passing of Arabella Cinquetti, owner of Lightening Video. Ara passes awat surrounded by family. She had been sick for a long time, but her heart couldn't take it any more. She will be missed here in Second Life.

The store and the sim were closed on March 15. As to what this means for the store's videos, the servers remain up, but only for a little longer. They are due to close on April 10. For theaters and home theaters with her products, it is unclear what will happen. They may no longer work, or continue to do so until they eventually break.

*  *  *  *  *

The Newser was also informed Kei Haru Paws (dante184) had passed away. The cause of death was cancer. He was 31 years old.

*  *  *  *  *

Earlier this month, the Newser reported on the passing of Sylys Sable. He would have a memorial service done in real life, a video of which was made available (click here).

*  *  *  *  *

While not a Second Life resident, Draxtor Despress mentioned the passing of someone who had been on SL media. He recently stated that science-fiction writer Vernor Vinge had passed away. Vinge had appeared on Drax's radio show "The Drax Files" in March 2016 to discuss his sci-fi novel "Rainbow's End," in which cyperspace and virtual reality figure prominently.

 Rest in peace

RFL Team Sunbeamer Meeting

On Sunday, March, 24 at Noon SL time, members of the Relay for Life's Sunbeamer team held a meeting inworld. The meeting, headed by team captain Rita Mariner, was about reminding people of upcoming events, notably the annual Air Show, on Saturday May the 4rth (which got a couple 'May the Fourth be with you' jokes), and other events such as participating in the Relaystock and the Ren-Faire. We also talked about other possibilities for events.

The "Sunnies" have one weekly event, the Moon Dance, every Thursday at 6 SL time. Head to Sunweaver Space at  (108/113/50) and look for the Moon Cannon.

Angels Beach Land Rentals

At the Angels Beach Land Rental Agency, you can find a great new home in Second Life. With many sims to choose from, in the Sunweaver Estates, Hidden Valley, and Purrfection, you can choose from a variety of environments.

We offer places with friendly and interesting neighbors. Some places have a tropical island look, others more temperate. Some of the sims have access to enough water to boat around in. And there are plans later on for an open water sim for even more water activities. The sims are home to a number of quality clubs, such as Cutlass, Zero Gravity, Xanadu, the BBBC, and the Happy Vixen Beach Club. In one sim alone there are two quality clubs that work together so there is no lag from them. There are also some small shopping areas available.

The sims range from Mature to Adult, but the purpose of the adult rating is for a relaxed atmosphere in which couples can relax. The places do not allow for harassment, and while there are vendors that cater to mature tastes they are discreet about it. Spaces available range from small plots to a full homestead that will rent out for only $30,000L's per month. Most of the sims break the parcels down into 512 Sqm parcels and and most have a sliding rent scale, so the more you rent the cheaper it gets. Our prices are VERY competitive here in Second Life.

And if you bring a friend to an Angels Beach area, you get more than just a good neighbor. Anyone that refers a renter to us and they rent land, they will receive 10% of the first months rent. And if someone you know needs help renting out land on his/her sim, bring them to us. Renters who bring in a sim owner needing administration, we will give 10% of our first check.

To learn more, please contact Nydia Tungsten, Brandi Streusel, Jasmine Dawn (Jasmine Knickers), or Matoazma Kazyanenko.

"We pride ourselves on on not just renting land but renting our customers the land you want. We listen to what you tell us on what you are looking for."

Club Cutlass Gets Frozen Over

Friday March 22 was "Fire and Ice" Night at Club Cutlass with DJ Snowbuns playing. Well, the ice part of the event was in full force at one point with the skies turning white with winter storm clouds gathering and soon huge amounts of snowflakes began dropping and accumulating.

And it wasn't long before the Sunnies and friends were dancing in the snow.

The wind and snow lasted for a while. But eventually it stopped and the snow on the grounded quickly melted away, the party going on as before.

Weekend in Review

A number of events took place this weekend. One was the Burn2 "Burnal Equinox" art and music festival (above), which took place from Thursday night to Sunday night. Bay City would also have it's Food Truck Festival on Sunday March 24. There were also a number of Relay events, such as River of Life's Battle of the DJs final show, also on Sunday March 24 (left).

More on one or more of these events later.

RFL Sunbeamer's "Bid Us Squirels"

The Relay's Team Sunbeamers are at it again. Every year, the team has done a number of "Bid Me" events, inspired by the Relay Rockers' "Bid Me Bald." But instead of losing our hair, the vict- er, volunteer goes through a period of time in a different look.  Over the years, we've had people go skunk, deer, human, bunny, mouse, panda, pink, and even "Bid Me Pantsless."

But this time, the team is doing something different.

While couples have taken part in "Bid Me" events before, they've done so in separate ones, the guy taking on one look and the girl the other. This time, we have a couple doing a joint challenge: Bixyl and Charlee Shuftan (Charlee Snowfox) in "Bid Us Squirrels."

The fundraiser is taking place at Club Cutlass in Sunweaver Bay (114/117/757), in the room behind the dance floor. Like other Bid Me events, there are two kiosks. To make Bixyl and Charlee a pair of black squirrels, donate to the kiosk on the right. For every 5000 Linden dollars donated, rounded down, they'll be having an appetite for acorns for a week. To keep the couple their normal foxy selves, there's a default kiosk on the left. If it's higher at the conclusion of the Bid Me, the couple stay as they are. 9999 Lindens would mean one week as "tree rats," while 10,000 L would mean two.

So why black squirrels? Well, one commented this way, they'd be great ninja squirrels at night, "They'll never see us coming when we go after their nuts."

The event goes on to Saturday April 13 at 8PM SL time, at which time the totals are made final and it's announced how long the volunteers need to be in their new looks. Word has it Rita is getting a supply of hazelnut coffee to wake up in the morning.

At the writing of this article, the totals are currently 21,315 Linden dollars in the squirrel kiosk with 250L for the default. So if you want to make Second Life's foxy reporter and Club Scorn's foxy DJ a couple of nut jobs a little longer, come on over and donate.

Once again the kiosks are at Club Cutlass in Sunweaver Bay (114/117/757).

St. Patrick's Moon Dance Almost Falls Apart, Leprechauns Blamed

Every Thursday, the Relay for Life's Sunbeamer team holds their weekly Moon Dance. On the one around St. Patrick's Day, they do a special one by making the moon green, which gets it's share of jokes of green cheese along with the green beer. But on the one for Thursday March 14, there was a problem. Much of the set just up and vanished, notably the lunar surface. This left new arrivals arriving via the Moon Cannon plummeting back to the ground, at least until Shockwave Yareach inserted a temporary floor.

Cynthia Farshore, who hosts the event, had been knocked off, but was soon back, and the normal lunar surface was restored, and she was playing the tunes. Somehow Yogi Bear snuck in (perhaps looking for picnic baskets?)

But this being the St. Patrick's dance, it wasn't too long before we had the green moon back.

People were saying the reason things fell apart was because of leprechauns. But no one saw any.

At the end, team captain Rita Mariner, along with Shockwave and Cynthia, thanked everyone for coming.

The Moon Dance is every Thursday at 6PM, and is BYOK (bring your own kiosk) with all Relay teams, and everyone else, invited.

Happy Equinox!
As the Winter comes to an end, Spring brings the hope of renewal and rebirth. Includes flowers blooming, and the dance of life.

Hope springs eternal in the human breast;
Man never Is, but always To be blest.
The soul, uneasy, and confin'd from home,
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.
- Alexander Pope, An Essay on Man

We are coming out of one season, into another. We humans have always found hope in things that we may not quite see - the kiss of the sun's warmth, the movement of sap in the trees, difficulties and struggles giving way to resolution and peace. Flowers break through the surface of cold ground, reminding all that better days are coming.

Since time immemorial, we have seen the cycles of life, seasons, generations, learnings, unlearnings, relearnings, new learnings. Growth and regrowth. Find this renewal of hope within yourself, let it spark new life, then let's come together to share this, to lift each other up.

Burnal Equinox will open on Friday, March 22nd, with a soft opening walk-on by the Lamplighters 5pm SLT. All are welcome to join the walk around the playa for a first look at the wonderful variety and creativity of art surrounding the effigy which is, at the moment, a glowing enigma at the center. We have some surprises for you!

We are all excited and very much looking forward to another event at Burn2. We invite you to join us in celebrating this Equinox weekend! More information can be seen on our website.

At this midpoint in the year between our big burns, lets celebrate who we are, and share peaceful practices handed down through the ages. Lets enjoy all the different interpretations of Equinox and come together to celebrate the Equinox Burn.

Breaking News: Linden Lab's Executive Chairman Makes Statement on Ageplay Accusations

This afternoon, there was an announcement from Linden Lab's Executive Chairman, Brad Oberwager, concerning some accusations that some Lindens and Moles were engaged in ageplay (virtual roleplay of child sex abuse). He stated that the charges are being taken very seriously, and while nothing's been found yet, the investigation is continuing to make double sure.

I want to take this opportunity to speak directly to the Second Life community. Thank you for being part of this wonderful world and giving us the time to carefully assess our situation after we became the subject of a blog post that has the potential to cause harm to our dedicated community members and the virtual world platform that so many people call “home.”

The post contains a complex mix of accusations regarding Second Life, and it questions our strong dedication to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members of the Second Life community.

Our Response to the Allegations

At the heart of the blog post were unsettling accusations about sexualized, virtual avatar ageplay, including alleged violations of our community guidelines. I want to be clear: we have a zero-tolerance policy against sexualized ageplay. The safety and integrity of the Second Life platform are paramount to us, especially concerning the protection of minors.

We will continue to enforce our existing governance policies and community standards and we are proud of our collaboration with law enforcement and organizations like the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to combat child exploitation. These efforts underscore our commitment to a safe online environment.

With that said, I want to acknowledge that we can do better; this has been a harsh wake-up call for us that we need to take tangible actions to improve Second Life’s governance policies and protective features that benefit the entire community.

Our Actions Moving Forward

I promise you that we are taking this very seriously. Very. Full stop.

I promise we hear you. We know you're angry and you're confused. We are working to do our best to resolve your concerns and restore your trust in us. These are complicated issues and we want to do things right. We will make mistakes along the way. I wish I could say we will not, but we will.

As owner of Linden Lab, I have initiated a thorough investigation, both internally and with external partners, to review whether or not there have been any violations of our company and community policies by employees, contractors, or community members. While early preliminary internal investigations suggest that some of the accusations are unfounded, I want to make sure that we get additional investigative support externally to ensure that the process is fair and thorough.

One of our top priorities has been to ensure the safety of our residents, moles, employees, and families. There are real people behind the avatars, and it has been important to confirm that nobody was in actual physical danger.

Additionally, I am taking proactive steps to review and revamp many of our policies, including a comprehensive review of our Community Standards, Content Guidelines, and Ageplay Policy. Any violation detected will be met with swift enforcement actions to protect our community. We’ll be sharing these revised policies in the coming weeks and, critically, we are turning to the community to help us shape the future of how governance operates within Second Life.

Our Commitment to You

Second Life remains a vibrant platform for expression, creativity, and connection. I and the Second Life team are deeply committed to protecting our community and ensuring that Second Life continues to be a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for everyone. Your trust is our priority, and we pledge to work tirelessly to maintain and enhance the integrity of our virtual world.

I appreciate the patience and support of our community as we navigate this challenge. Together, we will emerge stronger and more united in our mission to build the best possible virtual world experience.

The accusations were made from an anonymous account on a blog in late February.  The Newser reported on March that the Lab was starting to investigate them

EOTB: Updates From Linden Lab

Last week, Linden Lab posted some updates about what changes, and projects, it's been up to involving our virtual world. The first one mentioned was the one that's been in the news the most: the mobile viewer, saying there were "big and small updates." In what will make it's users a little happier, it has sound now.

We recently updated the Second Life Mobile Alpha to support streaming audio! You can enjoy music in Second Life on your mobile device while hanging out with friends inworld.

Sound is off by default. To turn it on, go to the "Settings" on the viewer, then "developer tools," then "enable streaming audio." There's also a couple new features on the User Interface. One can now start a new chat, and on the "Nearby Chat" area, one can see how many are nearby.

The Lab also announced that the process to replace JIRA was officially over. In it's place is the Second Life Feedback Portal.

There will also soon be a fifteen percent reduction of the land impact of "many mesh assets."

Also mentioned were scripting changes, and on the beta grid, a PBR Materials package was available to test out. The Lab would add, "Please keep your eye on our blog as we will post more details in the coming days."

Classic Cartoon: St. Patrick's Day Fun

Originally posted March 16, 2016. St. Patrick's Day is associated with not only with wearing green, but also drinking. For some, falling into enough beer to swim wouldn't be a nuisance, but a dream come true.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

It's St. Patrick's Day. And for those who want to see a themed location, there are a couple longtime ones that have been on the Grid for years.

There is a Dublin sim, and in the middle is the Blarney Stone pub. It's active year round, with live musicians.

WELCOME TO DUBLIN IN SL, GATHERING PLACE FOR THE WORLD ! Dublin in Second Life recreates the look and feel of the city of Dublin, Ireland. Events are scheduled daily. Irish Pub, club, bar, live, blarney, gogartys, shamrock, st paddys, st patricks

But St. Patrick's Day is special, with DJs and live music, late into the night.

Don't forget to check the rest of the sim as there's much to see.

Dublin (83/82/25)

Another place to explore is Castle Blarney, in the Wilde sim.

Scale replica of the real Blarney Castle main tower in Ireland, with Blarney Stone kissing animation certificate outside the castle entryway Irish village, Malones Irish Pub, Blarney Castle, Blarney Stone faerie wishing well

Here, you can travel up and kiss the Blarney stone, which is a lot quicker here in SL (and more sanitary).

The castle is part of O'Hare's Gap, with a nearby Irish village. Don't forget to check it out if you have a little time.

Gem Sunkiller at Freedom Rock: Bid My Hair Purple

 Hello Friends!

On Saturday, March 16th from 5-6pm I will be participating in Freedom Rock's DJ/Fundraising Contest.  I'd love to see you all there, whether you can give or not.  You all spur me to be my best version of myself, and I welcome your support.

For every 1000L raised my hair will be purple for a day, up to be beginning of Relay Weekend!  For a single  donation of 10,000L I will transform into a purple people eater for the rest of the weekend.  ( I know, I am shameless)

VWBPE Is Underway, "What's Up At The Lab" Takes Place

Yesterday was the first day of the Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education conference. Three days of discussions and lectures, as well as a parade and party. Probably the best attended event was "What's Up With The Lab", hosted by Phelan Corrimal. The Lindens on stage were Grumpity, Kali, and Signal. More were in the audience with a couple on guard for any possible griefers.

The Lindens talked about a number of developments. These included the mobile viewer in development, currently in a "private alpha" version Premium Plus residents can get on a waiting list for, and PBR Materials, which allow for the promise of working mirrors. They would also take some questions from the audience, one asking if people unable to keep paying for Premium could just automatically be downgraded to a free account instead of being booted.

It is notable who wasn't there. Patch Linden has been a part of "What's Up At The Lab" events at the VWPBE for a while, but he wasn't on the stage this year.

The VWBPE goes on until tomorrow, with the closing ceremonies at 6PM SL time and a dance party at 7PM.

SLife And Times: Dealing With Begging

Probably every resident is familiar with them. All of a sudden, one of their groups opens up, and someone goes "Hey, can someone give me a hundred Lindens?" Sometimes they offer to pay it back. But of course they never to. It's a low-level con to try and get someone to send them a little money. Sadly it's often a hacked account, which at the very least means a lot of inconvenience as the target will be thrown out of most of his groups. At worst it means the hackee ends up permanently banned. But it's always an annoyance to everyone else in the group, the chat being filled with grumbles. This includes Bellisseria chat, which has seen it's share of begging.

But someone in Bellisseria chat found a creative way to respond, and make everyone else grin.

Just after Midnight one evening, the following appeared on Bellisseria chat

[00:01] (Hacked Resident): Hey. Can someone lend me 100L me please? I promise pay it back tomorrow.

There were a couple growls. But an Ina (Jantina McGregor) had a creative response.

[00:01] Ina (Jantina McGregor): I have told you this before   We sincerely apologize but your loan application of L100 is rejected by Linden Bank Of SL due to your bad credit history. We request you consult one of our Financial Specialists to improve your credit score. Consultation fees are L500. Please don't hesitate to contact us. Thank you for banking with us :)

The result was a number of laughs and "LOL"s as the hacked account was ARed and booted.

Soon after, there was an announcement in the Relay for Live Volounteers group by Selene Jashan

New Challenge!!

How many of you have seen  the bots in groups begging for 100L?   Lets make lemonade out of lemons and when you see that,  where ever you are,  toss that 100L into a kiosk because I'm SURE that is what the bot was intending!   Who will join me in this???

 Lets DO THIS!!

Selene would add in chat, "We just got over 500L from doing that just now !!   They hit the I Pink I can Group (laughter)" That got chuckles and praise, Trader Whiplash saying, "I LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea! And be sure to type in the chat  'I sent your 100 to the Amerian Cancer Society for you.'"

So the next time you get hit with a beggar, here's two things you can do.
