The Newser recently interviewed Goddess (ShandyLand Resident). She's frequently seen in the Deathlands area. But she's also an accomplished content creator, and has a store and shopping area of her own, as well as her own club, Club GO. I recently had a chat with her, and she had much to say.

Remembering Ktadhn At The Seanchai Library

Yesterday at the Seanchai Library in The Glen, there was a small service for the late Ktadhn Vesuvino, who passed away earlier this month. It was at 1:30PM SL time, with Cale (Caledonia Skytower) as the host of the event.

REMEMBERING KTADHN for those who wished to participate in a community remembrance and have not had the opportunity to do so. Caledonia presents a final honoring of Ktadhn Vesuvino, and you are welcome to contribute your memories and honors in local chat  ~  Seanchai Library in The Glen - Live in on Stream..  Nowhereville (198,130,21)

A number of people showed up, including Wildstar Beaumont. Much of Cale's discussion was on the land stream. In text, she shared some of Ktadhn's amusing comments over time. She would say of him, "I've never known anyone who so dilligiently re-wrote and devised." Fayleen Bellios would say, "He has been a part of our Wednesday night Stories With Friends for at least 2 years, if not longer.   He wrote every week on  his story of Kintor.  We will all miss his on going tale." Trinny Mizin added, "Yet he did it in an hour, probably not to his complete liking."

There were a few other events for KT as he was often called earlier. This is likely to be one of the last ones, if not the last.

As is our tradition, we follow Burning Man’s theme each year. This year’s theme, Waking Dreams, is BURN2’s theme for the annual October burn event.  

Every year, artists and creatives are invited to get their plots to create homes and art installations in our virtual temporary city.  For 2022, we will have a total of 12 regions of our virtual playa - plenty of space for seasoned and new Burners to build their art, theme camps, and even camp villages.  So collect some friends and join together to make your scene on BURN2’s virtual playa in 2022!  Yes, you can group build and make a great village, a sound camp, or art installation come alive and share it with friends.
 
We’ll help Burners bring their 3D builds into Second Life, help campmates decompress on our Playa, and we can help you with some supplies that you can decorate as your own.  Take your virtual theme camp to another level by creating events or gatherings in your space and we can post the activity to our website in our version of the Who/What/Where Guide.  We have a large Burner community at BURN2 eager to burn with you and we are excited to see what you will bring out to the virtual Playa and share with us!  Check out more at www.burn2.org. Something new at Burn2…
At Burning Man, when you wander through the area, you’ll see all kinds of camps. Some gift food, others drink, and still others places to chill. Some invite fellow Burners to come in and visit, experience and interact with art and with each other.

You’ll also find there are sound camps of different sizes in various places. Groups of people come together to construct their stages, play their tunes, dance, perform, read poetry, tell stories, and all manner of music to tickle your eardrums. In an effort to further echo Black Rock City we will not have a Main Stage or BOB Stage at our Octoburn event - although Center Camp will still host a small stage as has been the case in the past. This year, we encourage the musically inclined and the prim slingers and mesh makers to come together and create shared stages in clusters of camps, much like the Burners at Burning Man.

B2TV’s roaming camera crew will live stream in various places, showing performances and awesome art all around the playa!  If you can't log in, you can stay connected to the event through B2TV's Live Video Webcast to Mixcloud. Every participant puts into practice many of the 10 Principles in being a part of the event, most especially Communal Effort. We’ve had a number of sound camps in the past and we’re happy to see you come back each year! Let’s see some MOAR sound camps!

Plot Sale
Our plot sale has just opened up (yay!) and will be open through Sunday, October 2nd. Burn2’s plot sale is equivalent to buying a ticket to camp at BRC.  This helps to defray the cost of renting the extra regions we use in Second Life®. Where to go to get your plot? What can you do to create your own Waking Dreams at Burn2?
First, plan to get your plot! Decide how big a plot and what you want to do on your plot - art, music, join a sound village, or just have a camp. Then get your ticket for your plot! And while you wait for the regions to arrive, plan your build, form your village, get your ideas going so you’ll be ready when you get your placement.

Gift Your Talents in Tunes and Dance
Burn2 will have one stage for performers: Center Camp, ideal for more relaxed and intimate shows.  Visit our website for more information about the event and how you can join the event as a DJ, live mixer, live musician or singer at Center Camp or one of the many independent sound camps. The Center Camp bookings are first come, first served.

Did you know… that camps aka “plots'' can create their own stages and host performers if they wish? YES - you can do your thing inside your sound camp space - and invite others to join you, of course.  Want to read, interview someone, have poetry readings?   You can do that with a live stream or in local voice chat. You’ll be able to give us some information via the plot owner questionnaire after you get your plot and we’ll assist you with good placement - and we’ll be helping to connect sound camps with performers!

Create an Art Display
Big art sounds intimidating?  We are inviting Burners to contribute smaller scale art that will be displayed in the “Deep Playa” areas at Waking Dreams. Put on your art beret, fire up the sketchbook or mesh build apps and add your bit of creativity to this event. Applications will be open soon.

Plot Lottery
The application for the plot lottery (aka Plottery) will be opening soon. These plots will be 512 square meters, with 156 LI max, in various locations around the expanded playa. They are intended for those who cannot afford the cost of a plot but want to have a spot on the playa to call home, create art, have some great fun.The application form will open soon.

And, last but not least…there will be Burns! You can come and watch the burns! The Man will Burn on Saturday, 15th October, then the Temple will burn on Sunday the 16th.  Be sure to visit the beautiful Temple and leave a message or two in the Censer. Those messages will be publicly read out before the Temple burns. We hope you find that the virtual Temple is a sacred space that can evoke a similar experience to what you encounter at the Temple on a physically dusty Playa.

Happy Vixen "Tail Sale" Results

 

 The "Tail Sale" held at the Happy Vixen Beach Club is over. The volunteers, including club owner Nydia Tungsten and a certain Newser reporter, were up for bids until Friday night at August 26. Bidding was often fierce, with three getting or exceeding 10,000 Lindens, the highest getting 20,000 Linden dollars. Over 66,000 Lindens were raised. Or in real money, about $283.90 US dollars.

The total funds raised, including tips is  $66,012L's, Thank you both Biddees and Bidders from the bottom of my heart... Thank You!

 

 

 

Rust: Automotive Addition and "Wacky Races" Part Deux

 

Months ago, Nydia Tungsten and a number of our Second Life friends started playing Rust once more, and with the addition of cars decided to hold a race.  About a month ago, I joined up with them. And when there was talk of another race, I was interested. The moderator build the course, and a date was soon chosen. Several people, including myself, would take part in this new round of "Wacky Races." So who won?

Burn ONe's Waterworld

 

Last weekend the "Waterworld" event took place in the Burn ONe sim of Highup. The sim had been redone and flooded to look like the setting of the 1995 movie of the name. The events took place on one of the world's floating towns or atolls. Quite a bit of detail went into it, and the Newser was there to take a few pictures.

It Came From Bellisseria Chat: UFO Sighting

Chats in the Bellisseria group are often interesting. You might hear a joke from a Linden or Mole. You might hear some useful information, especially if you're after a Linden home. Often, there's a lot of joking around. Like on the afternoon of Thursday August 25 when one resident reported a spacecraft sighting, with photo evidence.

Halloween "Shop and Hop" Starts October 6

 

While it's still only August, Linden Lab is already getting ready for Halloween. In August 15th, they announced the dates for the event in the Linden blog.

 

The 2022 Halloween Shop & Hop will open on October 6th, and will run through November 1st.

 

Unfortunately, applications for shopkeepers were being taken for only for a few days and it's now closed to them. But merchants won't have to wait too long. Soon after will be the Christmas season

Free Copy of "The Satanic Verses" at CDS Bookstore

 

It's been ten days since noted author Salman Rushdie was attacked on stage just before he was about to make a speech at an event. As a tribute to him, a free copy of his controversial work, "The Satanic Verses" is offered at Rose Coloured Glasses in Colonial Nova. Rose Gray announced the new book in the CDS group.

Thinking about the writer, Salman Rushdie and the horrific attack on him recently, I have created a mesh book in his honour. It's free in the Rose Coloured Glasses Books of Distinction book shop.  Come and get a free copy for your library and learn a little bit more about the writer. LM attached.

Following the publishing of the book, Rushdie faced numerous threats by Islamic extremists, and the leader of Iran called for his death. Rushdie has expressed doubts a book like this could be published today because of the climate of fear produced by the extremists.

Scuba Diving in Second Life

 

 People can do a lot in Second Life, some things one might be a little surprised can be experienced. Among these is scuba diving. At The Dive Shop in Ukupanipo, one can rent some equipment, and go underwater for two hours. And there's much to explore that will keep you looking around for that time, including some almost hidden places.

Weekend At A Glance

 

 

 While there were a number of events this weekend, a few stood out. One was the "Waterworld" event at the Burn ONe area in Highup. A tribute to the 1995 movie with Kevin Costner, the main feature was a build based on the floating town in the film, From Friday at 1 to Midnight on Sunday, there were musical performances, such as DJ Grease, and each night showings of the movie.

Also taking place was the NatureCon. It actually started on Thursday, but continued over the weekend and is still going on.

Also going on were tributes to the late Ktahdn Vesuvino, who passed away last week. If you missed any, there is still at least one that has yet to take place.

 Taken at Club Cutlass' "Hippie Night." Some of what people wore back then was more than a little "far out," including some people's sunglasses. While lenses that change color when the light chaged weren't quite developed yet, if they had, one certain style back then might get some people wondering.

Nuala Maracas' Birthday

 

 Tuesday was the real-life birthday of Nuala Maracus, a noted Relayer. And Trader Whiplash threw a "surprise party" for her at his "Legends" club. A number of Relayers showed up, or in one case, sending his alt. As it turned out, the birthday girl herself did the DJing.

A number of "Roos With a Dream" showed up, though without their characteristic Outback gear.

 

There was a little talk about a corvette in the area, Arizona Ballinger saying, "It is equipped with a cam so Fuzz can't drive it." Trader mused, "I leave it there to tease Fuzz. ... After Arizona dumped the ice from the zamboni on the biker gangs, it was suggested NOT to ride it on the track anymore." Arizona chuckled, "They were not a happy group." Lady Ren 'Jinx' Flow (Ren Float) joked, "Just tell them 'Chill!'"

Ktahdn Vesuvino of Mieville Has Passed

 

 There was some sad news for the Mieville community last night. It was revealed that one among them, Ktahdn Vesuvino, had passed away.

I'm afraid I have sad news regarding our DJ & Friend Ktahdn Vesuvino.

A mutual friend, Dragonia Decuir, just told me that a RL friend of Kt's texted her with this information:

--> Kt passed away late Thursday evening, due to complications related to his severe Covid.

I know this comes as a shock,so let us band together in this time of sadness.
Remember, Kt lived a very long life, and had many friends. ♥

We should try to recall the joy he brought us, even while we miss him.

Ktahdn was at the hospital, and is believed to have been undergoing an operation, and died while undergoing the procedure.

 

Besides Mieville, Ktajdn was in a number of other groups, including the Lamplighters and several other Burn2 groups, Book Island, the Fantasy Faire and Fairelands Watch, and had one of his own, "Ktahdn's Musical Medicine Show."

SL personality Prokofy Neva would call this "very heartbreaking news, All of his wonderful dances!" He would later post on Twitter, "ery saddened to learn of the death from COVID of Ktahdn Vesuvino, a wonderful choreographer in SL. So unfair. Here we are dancing to his routine at an event called "Night at the Museum" in Mieville."

Ktahdn had been in Second Life since May 2009.

Strawberry Linden's "Famous Landmarks Challenge!"

 

 Strawberry Linden has another challenge in the forums, the "Famous Landmarks Challenge."

For those that can’t travel to the real Paris and take a selfie in front of the Eiffel Tower, you can do that from the comfort of your home in Second Life! No passport required!

Strawberry would show a selfie of herself at the Paris City region:

 

 Others would post their own pictures, including a poo avatar. Most were much more attractive, such as this couple.

Cartoon of The Day: Knuckles' Speaks

 

 

 Taken at Montecito Bay. When VRChat first started getting attention, among the details that propelled it was the "Uganda Knuckles" meme, featuring images of a deformed avatar of the "Sonic" character in this virtual world. It didn't seem that funny, so maybe as it involved African accents those forwarding it thought they were messing with the "forbidden." The deformed avatar I don't think ever made it to Second Life. As for what Knuckles would think, probably something like this.

New Expansion in Eastern Bellisseria Allows Travel By Boat To Blake Sea

 

 

 With the Second Life Birthday behind them, the Moles have gone back to working on new Linden homes on the land of Bellisseria. Among them are a number of sims just west of the southern tip of the continent of Satori. The bulk of these sims look like they're designated to hold houseboats, though the sandy area on the very northern tip are for something else and there's an empty space that for now doesn't have any sims. 

But there's a little something that makes this expansion different, especially if you like boating. Two all-water sims, SSPSteady On and SSPDeep Anchor, connect these sims, and the rest of Bellisseria, to the older mainland continent. 

 

While there was a connection several sims to the south a year ago, the way the sims were built didn't allow for boat travel further up the coast, even if ban lines weren't a problem. With this new waterway, this time boating can be done up the Satori coast, and go east to a favorite area of sailing fans: The Blake Sea.

While someone else was the first to tell the Newser about the connection, SarahKB7 Koskinen would later do so to announce an accomplishment, being the first to document sailing from Bellisseria to the Blake sea (image from Sarah).

A little something that weekend sailors and serious boaters will enjoy.

Wonderland in Bell Fairgrounds and NatureCon

 

Gemma Cleanslate's weekend was a busy one. With the closing of the water park, Bellisseria Fairgrounds now has a new attraction, "Midway to Wonderland." Part of the sim was decked out to look like Alice in Wonderland, where the events took place, while another part looked like an abandoned park. Next Gemma went to the location where NatureCon will begin on Wednesday August 18. There will be numerous nature-themed exhibits, plus stage performances, nature tours, and more.

Miss Suzanne Super Sweet Speaks About Burn2

 

 

Burn2 has been a part of Second Life almost since it's beginning, and remains it's largest annual art and music festival with spinoff events and many fans and volunteers. As with most large groups, there are inevitably some disputes. But this year there has been trouble behind the scenes with people leaving. Miss Suzanne Super Sweet (SuperSuz Resident) recently got with the Newser and offered an explanation of what's been going on.

Larange Point Closing

 

Some sad news. The Newser was recently informed that a longtime running sim, Larange Point, is closing down. The owner, Hippie Bowman, had given the following announcement.

Hello all!  As you may know we have lost many renters here at Lagrange Point. Also it has been a very bad couple of year for Susie and I. Last year on August 15th my son died from covid-19.  He was only 26. Both Susie and my heart was broken in two. During this time I hardly went into Second Life. I just had no desire.  All the joy was drained from me and Susie too. I blame myself for not coming in and advertising the land that was available. Juana asked to help but it has come to this. I just don't have the desire anymore to deal with keeping the sim up.

So Susie and I talked it over.  I am going to let Lagrange Point go.  

It has been a great run. 13 years.  I am sorry that I have neglected you all here. I hope you can forgive me on that.  I will keep my premium account and my little house on the mainland.

The Sim will go down on September the 3rd.  So please before that gather all you things.  Especially your no copy things as you wont be able to get them after the 3rd of September.

With that said I want to say how much I love you all.  I am  not leaving Second Life in hopes that i will want to participate again in the future!

Getting to the sim, it was mostly empty. In contrast to the picture on Hippie's profile from happier days, there were only two large structures, a water slide and a tall building. As of last night, only the building was left.

A sad end to a longtime sim.
