Cartoon of The Day: Knuckles' Speaks

Taken at Montecito Bay. When VRChat first started getting attention, among the details that propelled it was the "Uganda Knuckles" meme, featuring images of a deformed avatar of the "Sonic" character in this virtual world. It didn't seem that funny, so maybe as it involved African accents those forwarding it thought they were messing with the "forbidden." The deformed avatar I don't think ever made it to Second Life. As for what Knuckles would think, probably something like this.

"Bernie Mittens" At The Relay

One of the latest memes to take the Internet by storm is that of a picture of Senator Bernie Sanders at the Presidential Inauguration a few days ago bundled up and wearing a pair of handmade mittens. They've been both a success for the Vermont woman who made them, and others have made a lot of use of them. For the Relay for Life in Second Life, Trader Whiplash and Stingray Raymaker have had a little fun with the meme as well, showing pictures of the bundled Bernie as a Relay supporter.

Bernie Sanders is a rare character in politics. In an era in which those on one party usually treated as vermin by supporters of the other, the Vermont Senator gets respect not just from other Democrats, but also Republicans as well. And of course the Relay is something both liberals and conservatives, as well as progressives and populists, can get behind.

Cartoon of the Day: The Ultimate "Rule 63"

Taken at Club Zero Gravity. Probably the second most infamous of the "Rules of the Internet" is Rule 63, "for every given male character, there is a female version of that character, and vice versa." While no one might be truly immune, I can't help but wonder of most men would be too nervous about pulling it off on Chuck Norris, the martial artist whom in Internet memes beats up almost everyone but Superman and the "One Punch Man."

Cartoon of the Day: Third Knock From The Sun

Taken at the Happy Vixen. For those who don't know, the shirt is about a reoccurring gag from the show "Third Rock From the Sun," in which one of the characters, Sheldon, has a number of quirks. Among them, knocking on the door of his lady friend Penny three times, then calling her name. Some computer geeks liked it. Others disliked it as they saw it as mocking them. Guess to avoid trouble, this guy  knocks on copper, three times.

Correction:  Turns out the name of the show was "Big Bang Theory." Oh well, I never did watch either one.

Luskwood Update: Ice Cream and Obedience

As Luskwood moves closer to it's sixteenth anniversary, the place still has the dystopian look that it's had since August, including proclamations from a "Council" and declarations of rebellion. Since then, this Council has continued to issue proclamations calling for it's residents to "eat the ice cream" for "a bright and happy future. One issued in mid-September looked like it was taken from L. Ron Hubbard's Sea Organization.

More recently was another one of a furry in a factory worker's outfit with a red banner in one hand and an ice cream cone in another, "Secure Our Future: Only Through Obedience Will We Prevail." It seems that the Council is taking cues from Soviet propaganda posters.

As Luskwood heads to the second half of October, there are unconfirmed reports that there will be an anniversary event of some kind. Hopefully by then, people will be talking more about cake and less about Halo Top ice cream.

Luskwood Council Bulliten

Late last month, things at Luskwood were getting a little strange as the place took on a bit of a distopian look and posters proclaiming rebellion against the "Council". Michi Lumin, one of the founders of the community, recently sent the Newser a copy of a poster just released by the Council.

We all want a bright and happy future. But the threat of darkness and sadness is ever present. What if you could help? What if you could help simply by eating the ice cream? You like ice cream. Join the Council and get free ice cream for an eternity.

If the sun does finally rise again on our noble tree, what will you say when they ask this question? "Did you help?"

One wonders, just how bad can eating the ice cream be? No word on whether or not the ice cream at Luskwood is from Halo Top.

A Look at VR Chat

By now, most of you have either tried Sansar or talked to or read the reports of people who have, and weren't particularly impressed. But there is another next-generation virtual world out there: VR Chat. If you're heard of the "Ugandan Knuckles" meme, this is where it came from, appearing on some of the videos that various youtube filmers have shown. But are badly-made video game avatars all that there is to the place? Yours truly decided to check it out.

"Memes" Event at Furry Fashion

Saturday January 20 at 3PM had one of Furry Fashion's nuttier events recently, it's "Memes" party. There were a few people showing up something representing something catchy on the Internet from the "Nyan Cat" a few years ago to "Tide Pods" and "Ugandan Knuckles" of today, and a few I didn't recognize.  DJ Bengt provided the music.

And no, no one was offering to show me "da wey."

Cartoon of the Day: Sharks With Lasers

I've heard the meme a lot, which has it's orgins from "Austin Powers" villain Dr. Evil, "You know, I have one simple request. And that is to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads!" Finally someone made it happen. But landwalker sharks in Second Life have more important things to do than follow the whims of some would-be mastermind, like perhaps teasing the neighbor's cat.

Cartoon of the Day

Taken at the SLB Cake Stage. Memes are nothing new, but what usually comes to mind are those catchy phrases and pictures on the internet that just rapidly spread from person to person, Some hate them, some love them, and others don't especially care that much. Someone thought it was cute to take a certain one and make an avatar head out of it. Oh well, good for a laugh.

SL Video: "Furlem Shake"

From Turriaiheisia, "Yet another Harlem Shake video... or is it?" It probably reflects what a few people think of this Internet video craze.

Also seen on New World Notes, of which Hamlet Au wrote, "If you watch only one more Harlem Shake in SL video ..."
